Actually I had some good luck with hiring people that have the minimum marks and huge amount of outside adjacent skills. One example is someone who was running a manufacturing operation on second shift and completing an engineering degree at the same time.
Think of it as similar to hi compression automobile engine (race car) being more efficient vs a low compression engine (tractor engine). Not exactly correct but a way of starting to think about it
How are you taking your temperature? Infrared sensor on the forehead? Infrared only measures surface temperatures and can give false readings of temperature based on how the body "radiator" system is working.
I once got to visit a jewelry manufacturing site where to get in and out you had to go through an MRI to ensure you didn't pick any gold or platinum dust on the tour. There were pallets of gold lying on the floor worth about 200 million. We got a chance to try to pick up a bar of gold about the size of a large loaf of bread and our tour guide said, "if you can pick that up and walk it to the front door, we'll let you have it". Turns out it weighed about 200 lbs and I could not get enough of grip to move it let alone pick it up. Fun visit.
Why not use nuclear for decarbonizing the atmosphere and for production of liquid hydrocarbons for industrial uses when the wind is blowing and sun is shining and when the renewable are not available use nuclear for base loads?
One of the reasons to use quantum gyroscopes is that will be accurate to within 1m or so after a day long underwater traverse of 1000 km or more. Communication while fully under still sucks though.
Ferrofluid is was used in disk drive motors to seal bearing grease from wandering out so it has reasonable life span of greater than 5 years from my experience
Same here. I tell friends climbing is a bit like random yoga with a bunch of problem solving thrown it. Plus it literally self selects for people who you would put your life into their hands.
Learning the art of influence/story telling is a super power. It doesn't even have to be better as it could just be more confidence in that it is good enough.
Read Influence by Cialdini. Take an improv class. Find some mentors with skills orthogonal to you. Learn to be fine with being uncomfortable as you learn and get feedback.
We use to race here in CO (which gets hot but not as hot as Texas admittedly) by dipping our Nomex suits in ice water and racing with ice bags in the suit that leaked so two cooling mechanisms in action. Works for 45 mins. It was great to get out with a completely dry suit after a race. Nothing like cool balls during the race.
