loriverkutya··on Matched and Deleted
Not sure from what time is your experience is from, if it’s pre Covid, I would say it’s outdated. Dating apps in the last few years turned into hyper optimised tunnels to get money out of their users while keeping them in the app with algorithms surgically portioning interactions aimed to keep their users swiping.
loriverkutya··on My little sister's use of ChatGPT for homework is heartbreaking
I think her parents are not doing what they should be doing. And I also think, that it is partially their parents fault but much more the fault of the education and social system the parents has been brought up and currently working and existing, because they are missing the resources (time and knowledge, etc) to attend to their child needs in this regards. And I'm also 100% sure they are not missing those resource because they are not doing their best to get what they need to meet with their child's needs.

It would be really easy for me to blame her for choosing the easiest things to do, her teacher to not giving homework which cannot be solved with chatgpt, her brother for letting her using his account, her parents for not being there and overseeing how she does her homework, but I very much think that each and every person is in this story is exhausted by just simply trying to exists in systems which are not setup for this 11 years old to meet what she needs with her homework and every person either still fighting the systems or just gave up because they run out of steam and they are doing their best to keep their head above the water.

loriverkutya··on Markov Keyboard: keyboard layout that changes by Markov frequency
As far as I'm aware hands down layouts were primarily designed to be used on a split ergonomic keyboard with thumb cluster, the space and enter lives on the thumb cluster.

loriverkutya··on A Japanese factory that designs clothes on a 40-year-old computer [video]
I started to have an interest in Japanese kitchen/cooking lately and every cookbook I have lists more than one type of knife as an essential.

Also this article mentions that the chef of the restaurant in the Japan House in London: “Akira has used many different types of knives in the past, but these days he finds that one sturdy knife and one small petit knife are enough to prepare almost any Japanese dish.”

So I’m not sure where you information is coming from but sounds more like myth than fact.

loriverkutya··on Tokyo has 20 times as much WiFi as it needs
I'm not sure if blockchain is the solution to the problem, but my problem is I want to make sure it is clear that if somebody else is using my residential wifi the traffic can be clearly associated to that user in case they do something in the grey/illegal area.

loriverkutya··on Why do older grad students become bitter?
Ignore the downvotes, I'm not sure which country you are in but there are other suicide prevention services in most of them, phone helplines, charities and other options.

And while I know that you don't feel like you have energy to seek for help, please consider do a Google search and reach out to one of the helplines, they will help you find a way out and figure out how you can get some form of help on a shorter notice. Also you have done the first step which is usually the hardest, realised you need help.

loriverkutya··on Microsoft and Nvidia Announce Expansive New Gaming Deal
In WoW classes have between 21-39 abilities, the average is around 30, in FF14 it is fairly similar (33 is the max). I recommend to look at the FF14 Comprehensive Controller Guide if you want to see how this problem has been solved. And it is viable as some of the FF14 top tier raiders are playing on controller along with a lots of average player.

loriverkutya··on Electric heat storage (Night Storage Heaters) (2019)
I think that was an insulation problem and not a storage heater problem. The insulation in the UK is abysmal in average flats/houses.

loriverkutya··on Why doesn't Stripe use Stripe Billing?
They could use staging. Or the solution they have in place in case they have a video conference system outage while they are fixing their own outage.
loriverkutya··on Spark email client goes subscription path
I paid for Spark once when I bought it, can't remember how much. It currently have every feature I need. Can you please explain why would I pay on a monthly basis for it, when I don't want new features, I don't want UI redesign just keep the app in a working state while we are going through the regular OS upgrade cycle.

My general experience with subscription based apps is that sooner or later they will introduce features I don't care at all, they remove features I use, they redesign the UI, in some cases they release a fully new version which does not even have feature parity with the previous version. (Looking at you 1password) and I simply cannot justify paying to a team who is obligated to do some feature work on a software I consider complete because I'm paying them money and ending up with something with a different look and feature set.

Charge me enough once to cover you development cost for the current state of the app, even charge me even for the upgrades needed to make your stuff working on a newer OS version.

It is sure a nice thing to get a continuous stream of money for a feature which had a one of cost, but on the consumer side, you will end up with an empty pocket very fast, if you are getting charged for every software/car/TV you use on a monthly basis.

loriverkutya··on Spotify Audiobooks
That sounds like another set of "audio" thing besides podcasts what I cannot turn off to be shown in the app when I open it. Not sure why there is no settings to turn off podcast recommendations if I don't want to see them, I would be even happy with an opt-out version.
