loriverkutya··on Romantic friendship: deep and lasting connection comes in many forms
So you state that whoever is not sharing your worldview after you shared with them are too shallow to understand it. This seems pretty black and white to me and my experiences with therapists are pretty different both in professional and private settings.
loriverkutya··on Element One – All of Matrix, WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram in one place
I don’t run my own service for the same reason I don’t build my own car or I don’t do accounting for my company, I don’t have the time to learn how to do it nor doing it.
loriverkutya··on Fastmail is having problems again
Cloudflare is not an ad company, Google is.
loriverkutya··on An unprecedented wave of online bank fraud is hitting Britain
I had the same experience with them and when I told them that I'm not going to give them any information over the phone because I have no way to verify anything I was told is true so give me a phone number I can contact them to verify the transaction then I was told that I'm overly cautious and stupid phrased in a nice and British way. And the transaction they flagged was a £30 payment in a city restaurant. I'm no longer with them.
loriverkutya··on UK MP speech about freedoms censored by YouTube
I just asked around (~100 people) and nobody I know has unlimited mobile data here in the UK. As you can get 120gb/month for £20 and unlimited for £40 on a 12 month sim only contract, I think not many people using more than 120GB/month so no good reason to pay double for it.

As anecdata, I cut my package back to 5GB at the start of the first lockdown as my mobil data usage went to nearly 0 since wifi at home and did not run out of data during the last year. I assume anybody who was able to do that done the same.

loriverkutya··on Facebook, Ray-Ban debut picture-taking smart glasses
>The wearer can't really record anything he/she can't directly see already. Is the concern that the guy at the next urinal might crane his neck over the divider and film your junk? Would you consider that acceptable behavior if he didn't have camera glasses on?

My concern is the difference between something being able to be seen and something being able to be recorded and shared later.

loriverkutya··on Who Is Being Monitored?
> people act like anonymity is some kind of right, but it really wasn't in the past

it was for tens of thousands of years in the past

loriverkutya··on Apple says photos in iCloud will be checked by child abuse detection system
They not going to go through Apple if they planted CP on your device, they going to take you to custody saying they got an anonymous tip or something along this line or just tip off the police to do the job for them because it worked in the past, requires less effort and maybe I'm wrong on this but there is no additional gain from going though all the hops when you can do it with an anonymous call.

Also, if you have full access to somebody's phone, it does not matter if Apple is scanning for CP or not, you can do much more sophisticated things.

Also 0-day non click exploits are not something random scriptkiddies running around with dropping CP on random phones as they are way too valuable.

loriverkutya··on Messaging and chat control
No direct democracy existed in known history with 445 million people.
loriverkutya··on One Bad Apple
> Why haven't I made my whitepaper about PhotoDNA public? In my view, who would it help? It would help bad guys avoid detection and it will help malcontents manufacture false-positives. The paper won't help NCMEC, ICACs, or related law enforcement. It won't help victims.

It would help those victims who are falsely accused of having child porn on the phone because of a bug.

It would also help those people who is going to be detained because PhotoDNA will be used by dictatorial states to find incriminating material on their phone just as they used Pegasus to spy on journalists, political opponents, etc.

loriverkutya··on Messaging and chat control
Can you please be sensible? Direct demoracy is not working with 445 million people.

loriverkutya··on Biodiversity decline will require millions of years to recover
It recovered multiple times before, it will recover again, luckily humanity is not yet powerful enough to sterilise or destroy the biosphere of the whole planet and I hope the next time evolution comes up with something psychologically better suited for long term survival then our own species since we are so obsessed to change our environment without thinking through the long term consequences. And even if we thinking it through we fail to prioritise to keep our environment in a state where the next 10 generation have a chance to survive. We also fail to look at humanity as part of the environment and biosphere and not as some kind of higher being who is independent from the consequences of its doing to the environment. Evolution have time to start over, I’m sad that we failing to realise we don’t.
loriverkutya··on A Lock Picking Game Changer [video]
The exact thing is happening in my neighbourhood on a regular basis in the last year. And in some cases the burglar managed to get away with notebooks and other valuables while the owner were just upstairs for 5 minutes.
loriverkutya··on Revolut – From 0 To 50.000 Customers in 3 Months
Since they don’t have a UK banking license and no FSCS protection this was a pretty risky move, if you add the customer problems to the picture, I considered way to risky to trust them with my business account.
loriverkutya··on Java Is Underhyped

loriverkutya··on Can’t use iCloud with “true” as the last name
That’s why I use apple remote app where even copy paste works.
loriverkutya··on Commenting vs. Making
Yeah, I would also prefer if the developer would do the testing (or just create an automated test suite so we can be confident when we deploy the code), do the penetration testing and also create the full network, db and CI and CD infrastructure, not to mention the disaster recovery and budgeting for the project your are working on. Ahh and yes, ship all those features.
loriverkutya··on Ask HN: Why aren't you coding?
Developers are not paid to write code, they are paid to come up with a software solution to a (usually business) problem.
loriverkutya··on Bitcoin powers towards $50K as Tesla takes it mainstream

loriverkutya··on Frustration Is Spreading Faster Than the Vaccine Is
Why should this they're lying about their numbers cope should die? They are lying about their numbers so you don't have solid data to argue with.
loriverkutya··on Making Vaccine
So 2 person out of 10 000 dies. You would be a local hero and you would probably feel good for the rest of your life which is 2 weeks time. Also, let’s talk about long COVID. Nobody knows how long is it stay with you or if you even recover from it. You are a hero but you cannot climb the stairs anymore. And you will be forgotten in months.
