llboston··on Transfer Stocks Out of Your Robinhood Account
> When you transfer money in, Robinhood doesn’t actually get that money until a couple days later. They allow you to buy stock immediately, but that happens (transparently) on margin. Robinhood is loaning you the money to make it happen.

Then they can reduce the purchasing power for certain stocks to just the money already transferred.

How about let the users decide for themselves who to follow or block?
llboston··on China wants to build an open source ecosystem to rival GitHub
vue.js is not sponsored by China, although its founder Evan You is Chinese. He immigrated to the US way before starting vue.js.
llboston··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
I used to feel pretty strongly about the CCP banning Twitter, Facebook and Google. Not any more.
llboston··on Hyundai to acquire Boston Dynamics
I have been secretly hoping Tesla to buy Boston Dynamics and revolutionize autonomous manufacturing. One day, a Starship fleet will send an army of robots to Mars and build out a city.
llboston··on Judge temporarily blocks U.S. ban on TikTok downloads from U.S. app stores
You probably don't know how CCP branches work. All government branches, state owned companies, and major internet companies in China have CCP branches. Especially in the government and state own companies, the head of the CCP branch is actually the real person in charge.
llboston··on Judge temporarily blocks U.S. ban on TikTok downloads from U.S. app stores
All major internet companies in China, including ByteDance, have CCP branches [1]. CCP would be crazy not to use TikTok data.

llboston··on Nikola Denies 'Fraud' Allegations, Threatens Legal Action Against Short-Sellers
Another thing, Nikola’s entire quarterly revenue of $36k was from solar installation for Trevor himself, and they are not a solar company . As a founder myself, I hate to doubt any other founders, but this isn't something an honest founder would do.
llboston··on Nikola Denies 'Fraud' Allegations, Threatens Legal Action Against Short-Sellers
I have no insider info but leaning to believe that at least Hindenburg Research's report is partially correct based on a few things:

1. I listened to Nikola founder Trevor's interview on Jason Calacanis's podcast, and was sold on the advantage of Hydrogen fuel cell over battery for long haul trucks. Such a huge market! And then Trevor said Nikola, a 400 people company, are also working on the an electric pickup called Badger to be more consumer facing. This makes no biz sense to me at all and I realized they are probably just chasing the trend.

2 At the time Nikola doing the first Earnings call ever, Trevor was on a 6-day vacation in the Bahamas, while bragging about having a $13 Million airplane. Trevor is no Elon. No matter how much you hate Elon, he works his butt off, and that gets my respect automatically.

3 I understand Nikola want to protect their trade secrets and go through SEC first, but in their press release [2] they have shown nothing to prove that Hindenburg Research's report is wrong.

llboston··on TikTok and WeChat: Curating and controlling global information flows
Why has Wechat became pretty much the only way the oversea Chinese communicate with their family and friends in China? One of the reasons is, CCP has banned the rest.

Probably you might be aware of this https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/we-people-support-... Over 100k Chinese American petitioned to ban Wechat and TikTok in the US.

Wechat has added a TikTok like feature this year as well and it's doing pretty well.
llboston··on China hires over 100 TSMC engineers in push for chip leadership
It's an open market, but not a fair market, if you are competing with a country.
llboston··on SpaceX test flight of Starship SN-5 [video]
Another significant thing is that Starship is designed to be mass manufactured at a relatively low cost. SpaceX can crank out thousands of Starships, fly them to Mars and build a million people colony. Starship is truly a game changer!
llboston··on China suppression of Uighurs meets U.N. definition of genocide, report says
That's actually not true. The Han Chinese are imposed forced sterilization. Even worse, pregnant Han women who violate the policy have been taken from home to do forced abortion. I hate this policy as much as anybody, but I won't call it genocide.
llboston··on FCC’s Approval of SpaceX’s Starlink Mega Constellation May Have Been Unlawful
They need to consider that other countries might launch satellite constellation too, such as China http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2019-07/03/c_138195322.htm
llboston··on Google Scientist Resigns Over “Forfeiture of Our Values” in China
Background: I've spent the first 25 years of my life in China, and the next 20 in the US. I know my opinion probably won't be popular, just wanna point out a few things missing in the current discussion.

Most of us here on HN are entrepreneurs. We wanna make something useful to the world and make tons of money in return. Just as we should look at what kind of impact our products have on our users' lives, in the discussion of whether Google should return to China, we shouldn't focus on the Chinese government and ignore the 1 billion Chinese people.

If Google launch a new Google.cn:

1. The Chinese government won't benefit much from this. Compared to these Chinese companies, Google will always be an outsider. It will have to work with the government, but won't be eager to do so, and might cause troubles to the government from time to time.

2. The Chinese people will benefit a lot! Without good competition, the dominant search engine Baidui has become such a bad actor over the years. If you are annoyed by Google ads, Baidu is 100 times worse, especially on mobile devices. For many search terms, the first a few pages are all ads. People are really fed up with this. In a recent survey by Sina (http://finance.sina.com.cn/stock/s/2018-08-07/doc-ihhkuskt26...) 72.8% the users surveied wanna use Google if it goes back to China.

If you were a farmer in the North right before the civil war, you probably would still have been willing to sell to the people living in the south that are against slavery, even if Southern government would benefit from tax.
