littledude··on I Sell Onions on the Internet (2019)
this is the kind of business that would blow up on tiktok. it's a niche business and people would be captivated by the whole process. theres a guy with millions of followers and views from cleaning pools for example.
littledude··on Endocrine-disrupting chemical exposure in womb impact fear, anxiety behavior
i remember reading in order to make any plastic soft enough to stretch and mold (otherwise it's too brittle) additives like BPA are required. BPA is just one of many different options. BPA free doesn't mean endocrine disrupting free.
littledude··on Mall real estate company collected 5M images of shoppers
there is camera software that records an individuals gait/way they walk as a unique fingerprint/identifier
littledude··on “Side Hustle” as a Sign of the Apocalypse
I think this tends to happen once density of the place people live goes above a certain threshold. People don't have to rely on their neighbours because they know so many people (friends/family/coworkers) close by they can contact if they need help with anything.

On the flip side your neigbours are most likely potential see you arguing with a partner, coming home drunk late at night, going out after calling in sick etc. See things that tarnish your reputation, more downside than upside if you find out you have connections and potential gossip.

littledude··on Eating for Health, Not Weight
yes buy a gram scale and keep it on your kitchen counter then use http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ or http://www.fatsecret.com/ to measure all food

best investment i;ve made trying to put on muscle

littledude··on Ask HN: Canadians, is Rogers throttling your connection?
yes, i used to be with rogers and switched to teksavvy a few months ago. fair price and larger/unlimited monthly cap. haven't noticed any throttling.
littledude··on Food Matters: Building A Startup Office Culture One Meal At A Time
lots of startups eat together, look into zerocater and how they started their whole business around this concept. even ycombinator has big dinners with multiple startups regularly. it's not uncommon at all and accepted at good practice by lots of companies. i don't understand why you're making this out to be some negative experience.
littledude··on HN Podcast #1: Kickstarter, Raspberry Pi, And Instagram
anyone got another link? server down for me
littledude··on The Freedom and Perils of Living Alone
how about he does all dishes both his and roomates, then figure out other types of chores they can do to balance it out, like mowing lawns and/or grocery shopping. better to focus on results and time spent instead of being right and miserable.
littledude··on The desks of 37signals
judging by your comment, they're doing it right. better to polarize opinions instead of trying to 'make everyone like them' and be irrelevant.
littledude··on Social Vanity
i wouldn't call it a waste of time. they're using some of the most efficient current forms of personal trait signaling. check out the book "Spent: sex, evolution and the secrets of consumerism".
littledude··on Ask HN: Relation Coffee VS Sleep
the half-life of caffeine is about 5hrs and there's around 260mg in a 12oz coffee. you'd probably want to stop drinking after the first few hours of your day so it's mostly out of your system by the time you go to sleep.
littledude··on How To Crash A Party
i used to work in a movie theater in high school, same theory applies. you can actually walk right in without a ticket and no tricks, just confidence and a sense of entitlement. my coworkers would never stop people with the balls to do it and it happened many times.

walk close behind a group of at least 2 other customers. as their tickets are being ripped just keep walking past them at a normal pace, head facing forward, and without making eye contact. they will notice you but do nothing.

go ahead and try it with a legit ticket in your pocket you can show them if they do stop you.

littledude··on Ask HN: Faking it until you make it?
I'd actually be more impressed if you start making money and validate your idea without writing a line of code.

go do it :)

littledude··on Startups: Don't Host Your Blog on Tumblr
maybe it's because of the location of the servers? they seem to be west coast, i'm east coast and can't remember the last time i had trouble loading a tumblr blog
littledude··on Ask HN: We were told our idea is amazing, but our startup is failing - what now?
I looked at the 2 itineraries available for my city and it was the typical tourist attractions. Like others have commented they're already widely recommended online and in print guidebooks. If I made an itinerary for a friend i'd recommend specific niche places the locals go relevant to their interests.

What if you bump the price up to $20+ per itinerary then offered more value by having each itinerary custom made to match each customer's personal interests. Maybe also have the 'local experts' who made the guide ranked like a restaurant on yelp to build up trust.

littledude··on Notch live coding for Ludum dare 22
The same theory applies for pro PC gamers, an unusually high amount use $10 microsoft optical mice. Then there's the majority of casual players arguing over the details of the latest $90+ mice with bells and whistles.
littledude··on Ask HN: How do you get your employees to care?
Adding to your 'as customer' comments, I've had immediate success in person with front line staff by saying "If you do X for me i'll write a very complimentary email to HQ and mention you by name".
littledude··on Mark Cuban Invest in Yourself
i took a look at your past comments. i'm getting a little personal but i hope you don't mind. you have the financial resources and seem like a mature person, you should move out.

think of it like an investment in learning the skills to be fully independent. it'll also build self confidence and trust in your faculties.

separating yourself from the social conditioning of your parents will give you the breathing room to develop your own intrinsic goals and interests.

littledude··on What offline hassles have you encountered recently?
did a quick search, looks like this can be done depending on your bank. if i'm not mistaken it's called a 'return receipt', here's an example:

littledude··on Ask HN: What interesting non-intuitive things do you know?
i don't know about deadly but a small example of this concept is when people are caught speeding. people have a higher chance of getting out of speeding tickets by crying and/or admitting fault instead of challenging the police and denying any wrong doing.

littledude··on Ask HN: I am 23. What's next?
Hey, i'm in my 20's also :)

It may seem normal to you and not a big deal since you kind of dismissed it but you did describe a childhood full of turmoil (gangs, drugs, parental issues). You might want to talk to a mental health professional about these things. Your childhood environment could have made a negative impact you're not yet aware of.

Other than that, try focusing more on doing things you believe is useful to the next generation. Feeling valuable to the next generation is hard wired into humans but often times ignored causing the well known mid-life crisis. You may have just gotten there a lot faster than the average person.

The things you do to aren't important it's the way you think about what you do. For example, most people do this by raising kids and feeling responsible for the process. Another option is to become a mentor to one/many people and share your wisdom and experience with others. Pretty much anything works even things generally considered superficial as long as you believe internally you're doing it to serve others.

littledude··on Ask HN: If you could pimp out your office what would you do?
