Multiple programs go by the same name "Cinelerra" for the same purpose (non-linear editing on Linux). The submitted link directs to the original (?) one.
leonry··on How to found a company in Germany: 14 "easy" steps and lots of pain
I like that the author gives a detailed step-by-step process with caveats on the way along. However, I believe it is slowly improving. Namely, there is an online service (https://online-verfahren.notar.de/ov/home) that may somewhat ease the process (steps 2–4 & 8).

True, that wasn't well formulated.

A couple of years ago, I would have concurred. But for some time already you have the possibility to use the e-ID through Postident (https://www.deutschepost.de/de/p/postident/privatkunden/iden...) which is kind of well integrated in many businesses. Moreover you have private / corporate solutions like Verimi (https://verimi.de/) that incorporate functionalities of the e-ID. There is even an alternative (https://www.openecard.org/startseite/) to the official app. (EDIT: The alternative is open-source, but so is the official app. Removed adjective.)

I really like the development that has gone into the e-ID. They even have thought out a safe way to update your PIN (https://www.pin-ruecksetzbrief-bestellen.de/)! The biggest drawback of all is the lack of any marketing, IMHO.

leonry··on HON is no longer updated and will be permanently discontinued on December 15
Couldn‘t find a press release or news report on the discontinuation of HON. The Wikipedia article (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_On_the_Net_Foundation) mentions it, though.

The app „Tiny Weather Forecast Germany“ (https://codeberg.org/Starfish/TinyWeatherForecastGermany) seems to exactly make use of that. There are probably others, but it is the only one I found on F-Droid.

True, space is a selling point.
leonry··on Germany paying $5.5B for Intel fab
Why Magdeburg? I have a really hard time to find an argument that puts the city in an advantageous position relative to other competitor places (like Dresden, Munich agglomeration, Rhein/Main area, Hamburg agglomeration).

leonry··on Projects for Old Versions of OS X
Ah, that explains it! Thank you for the insight. I‘d stick to ffplay then.
leonry··on Projects for Old Versions of OS X
I once tried to get Perian working on High Sierra. Unfortunately, it always ran indefinitely without playing any video whatsoever. I eventually ended up calling ffplay from the terminal. I might try one of the solutions that are on the site if needed again.
leonry··on LearnedLeague
From the FAQ (https://learnedleague.com/thorsten/freq.php): "LearnedLeague is the greatest web-based trivia league in all of civilized earth, and one of the most glorious activities of mankind. It's a trivia game where players use their brains to compete against one another head-to-head in a league format, with the goal of winning matches and ultimately becoming the mightiest of mighty, the LearnedLeague Champion."
leonry··on My skin was irritated for years until I found out why because of lockdown
The wiki article for Febreze is very odd. At least a third of the edits (in terms of characters) were done by single-purpose IP addresses, see https://xtools.wmflabs.org/articleinfo/en.wikipedia.org/Febr...

Moreover, the claim you cite references a now defunct website operated by P&G from 2005, archived version (it automatically downloads a perl script on my PC...): https://web.archive.org/web/20060515060609/http://www.scienc...

It seems that the P&G article promotes Febreze as a fabric refresher. It does not tell anything about the air fresheners from the same brand which are the topic of this thread.

leonry··on Open-Outcry Communication: Hand Signals
I notice that the first video is from a PBS programme. Funny thing, I first learned about the hand signals from another PBS production, Open Outcry (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816256/). It was once uploaded to Youtube in several parts, but unfortunately I cannot find the playlist anymore.

leonry··on Is “huh?” A universal word? The convergent evolution of linguistic items (2013)
Hm, I would use „hä?“ rather to signal that I don‘t understand the content. I may well have understood the words or sentences, though.

On the other hand „huh?“ is meant in the paper rather for signaling that I didn’t understood the form, AFAIU. For that I would rather use „Was?“ or „Hm?“ in a slightly higher voice, like the German instance at point 25. in Figure 1 suggest.

As a sidenote, I wonder if the examples in the paper are acceptable in semi-formal conversations, say when talking to colleagues at work. In German I would rather stick with „Wie bitte?“ to avoid judgements like in the answers under https://german.stackexchange.com/questions/4876/verbreitung-...

leonry··on Traffic Simulator
That would be another instance of the Braess paradox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braess%27s_paradox#Traffic), correct?
