leak··on Orrick's Legal docs for startups
I was planning on speaking with a lawyer but there really isn't much at this point except consulting so I was holding off. Thanks for the feedback & info.
leak··on Orrick's Legal docs for startups
Thanks for the helpful info. I did do a lot of research about it but still wasn't 100% sure. I am a solo "owner" so I think I'm good.

I feel like I made a mistake incorporating in CA instead of Delaware. Should I consider setting up a "parent" company or something in Delaware?
leak··on High school teacher tells graduating students: you’re not special
In 3rd grade, my teacher would give us star stickers that reflected how well we did in the class with participation, attendance, behavior, etc. I have a picture of me at my desk with these stars and in the picture there is another student with their stars showing. I had about 5x the amount of stars.

The student behind me ended up earning a PhD in her education while I have a BS.

leak··on Sorry Cheapskates, But HBO Doesn’t Want Your Money
I probably misunderstood what you said but, you want HBO to spend millions producing a show and then let you decide what to pay depending on your thoughts of the show?
leak··on Dr. Koop and The Bubble
Almost the same story a friend of mine told me about how he knew when it was time to cash out. "I was at 7-Eleven and the clerk was talking to the customer in front of me about what stocks they were buying. The next day I sold all my stocks."
leak··on Ivy League school janitor graduates with honors
I was thinking the same thing. I wonder how many other universities offer such programs.
leak··on Ask HN: Anyone else want a "Save" story feature?
Because upvoting a story that seems interesting (ie: Yelp files for IPO) and wanting to save a submission related to some new service or project (ie: ClutchIO or some github project) are 2 different things for me. I never want to go back and read about Yelp IPO but I may in the future want to use that service or project submitted. That's just my use case though. I use read-later service now to do that.
leak··on Intro to Social Hacking: How we lowered our cancellation rate by 90%
Really great article and solution!

This is a company I would invest in today. These guys know the game and are playing it accordingly.

leak··on Ask HN: What is the secret of Reddit's success? Early adopters?
I'm going to have to say it was two parts luck and ease of joining the conversation. You can create an account so easily (no email required) and that probably allowed a lot of people to chat about subjects that they would normally not put their name/identity on. That's my guess.
leak··on Startup Workaway II: Thailand. 25 founders. 10 days. 1 kick-ass resort.
I am so up fo ra 3 month getaway. Sign me up if something comes around. I think we could do it in India for super cheap.
leak··on A $5000 Chair
Can someone please enlighten me on how to avoid this kind of situation? Is this because these guys didn't have any papers signed with the guy about him being a temp until they decide later?
leak··on Udacity to offer entire CS curriculum, certifications to obtain a degree online
California. Attended California State Universities. They have gone up a bit since I graduated about 7 years ago but not that much.

Average for all CSU's - $5,285

leak··on Udacity to offer entire CS curriculum, certifications to obtain a degree online
State universities if you're a resident of the state don't cost $20k/yr. Mine cost me $4k/yr.
leak··on Show HN: JavaScript Instagram-like Filters
This is awesome. Thanks!
leak··on Hiring - Must be godlike to apply
I stopped reading job ads because it made me feel unqualified to do anything. I have a lot of experience. I've solved a lot of hard problems. I've built a lot of enterprise software that a lot of people actually use. But of course, that's not good enough these days. You have to be a real genius to get a job. I'm not a genius unfortunately so I'll stick with trying to do start my own company and hire geniuses.
leak··on Show HN: My afternoon project - a pleasant viewer for the "who is hiring?" posts
I was also thinking the same exact thing when I was reading the post today. I guess HN readers think alike!
leak··on Ask HN: Checklist Platform for Hospitals – a good idea?
I actually worked on a healthcare product that had this feature. It was called Pathway. It's similar to what you're describing with checkboxes for each "path" that the patient should be on for whatever reason they're in the hospital. It was actually really popular but got replaced by Flowsheets.

But with that said, for smaller facilities or even doctors offices, I think this would be very useful.

leak··on Drchrono (YC W11) raises $2.8 Million for iPad Health Record Platform
Good luck with that.
leak··on Drchrono (YC W11) raises $2.8 Million for iPad Health Record Platform
Healthcare is less about these cool technologies and more about how do they devices and software interfaces get access to the patient data. I worked at a startup that launched a tablet application back in 2005 for healthcare professionals to interface with patient records while walking around the hospital. Building the software was and still is the "easy" part.

Getting IT to give you access to patient data is the extremely difficult part. It takes literally years. Lots of proprietary stuff that is very hard to get into. Maybe Drchrono is tackling small doctors offices and it might be easier but trying to get into major hospitals is another story.

I wish them luck either way.

leak··on Tony Hsieh's new $350 million startup
I want to be a person like Tony Hsieh. I'm not even talking about business, I'm just saying an all around human being like him. Everything I read, watch, or use related to him makes me feel like there is hope for this world. Yes, he's a business man and this may all be part of the image but I don't think so. If you've read his book, you know he's genuinely a great person who really wants to make a difference. Success usually follows such people.
leak··on Rekindling (on my experience with burnout)
I was in the same burnout boat. I took a month long vacation out of the country and when I came back I felt more energized for a total of 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks, it was back to feeling burned out and really just unhappy. I kept working and figured it was just a phase. It wasn't.

I quit my job last month. We'll see how I feel in 6 months. Hopefully, that was the cause! :)

leak··on How I Program Stuff
"being around other people seems to really drain my energy and sap my creativeness." sums up why I don't enjoy other programmers and why I like to program alone. If i'm programming on a team and we have dudes who are anti-social, can't take a joke, don't like to talk to you, don't eat lunch with you, etc, etc, it sucks. I don't care how good they are.
leak··on Review my startup - Lean Domain Search: The fastest way to find a domain name
Out of curiosity, would you call imgur a feature or a company?
leak··on A Million Pageviews, Thousands of Dollars Poorer, and Still Countlessly Richer
He's probably talking about the other headaches that come along with any business, not so much the actual service.
leak··on A Million Pageviews, Thousands of Dollars Poorer, and Still Countlessly Richer
What? Ok, I take back the "like YouTube." How about like Google search? Users don't spend 3 mins on google results page. Also, a text ad can be targeted to whatever tags the pic has (ie: New York hotels).
leak··on Aussie wunderkind gets $US250k for technology that could revolutionise web
That seems to be the state of a lot of coverage on tech companies. Age first, service second, quality third.
leak··on A Million Pageviews, Thousands of Dollars Poorer, and Still Countlessly Richer
Why doesn't Flickr have a revenue model similar to YouTube based on views to share with users? Or even let you overlay links to other sites (advertising) on your photo?
leak··on The real deal with Groupon
I guess my headline wasn't good. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3468848
leak··on Zappos.com customer database compromised
I've been having issues with Zappos for a couple days. I called up support yesterday and they said they were "upgrading the website and had bugs they were trying to get fixed." Not sure if this is related or just a coincidence.
