lcusack··on A Debt to Education
Just for some further context. Plough is a publication of the Bruderhof community which is Christian but in a much more radical sense than mainstream Christianity (no private property, radical non-violence, etc.).

I've visited their community in upstate NY and really enjoyed it.

lcusack··on Ethereum founder warns cryptocurrencies 'could drop to near zero at any time'
You can see how many people are falling for it by looking at the wallet address: https://etherscan.io/address/0x358EF89B4D37f16002cc4A853B321...
lcusack··on Square announces pilot program to accept Bitcoin
yeah, those are interesting questions. I assume either they hold the wallet or some exchange they are using behind the scenes.

It would make a lot of sense if you could start using your Square Cash Card funded by BTC. That would be cool from a long term vision.

I've been using the Shift Card for a few months which functions like a debit card but is funded from my BTC on coinbase.

lcusack··on Square announces pilot program to accept Bitcoin
Yes, this is in the Square Cash app not their POS product.
lcusack··on Futures of text
I'm surprised the author left out payments. SMS is the simplest way to facilitate non-POS transactions. We've built our company on that, kindrid.com.
lcusack··on Confetti – Tumblr for events
I like the site, it seems that your pricing is contradictory.

On: http://confetti.events/pricing

it says: "Confetti charges 5% + 5 SEK per ticket sold (this includes the credit card processing fees and VAT)"

But on: http://confetti.events/features

it says "5.0% + $0.50 per ticket (+ credit card fee)"

lcusack··on Introducing Driver Destination
I think it's more about incentivizing sharing. Part of that is money but you're not going to make a lot carpooling to work.
lcusack··on Near Miss: The Solar Superstorm of July 2012
So basically the Mayans would have been right?
lcusack··on Show HN: Betatype - A freelance site where clients pay $3,500 for prototypes
So, assuming you had an extra $3,500 to blow. What would you most like to have built?
lcusack··on Printoo: Paper-Thin, Flexible Arduino-Compatible modules
I know this is a basic question. But how exactly does Printoo work with Arduino? Do I need to buy anything from Arduino in order to use Printoo?
lcusack··on Show HN: Siri, open the garage
Very cool.

But when you say "app" what exactly does that mean? Can it just be a web app that you save a shortcut to? Or is this actually a native app?

lcusack··on Things I Learned In 2013
hmmm. Thanks, could you tell me what device / browser you were using?
lcusack··on Things I Learned In 2013
I can see how some of it does read as "fluff" or cliche, it probably would be more beneficial if I did a short paragraph on how I learned each point.
lcusack··on Ask HN: My attempt at empowering companies to make better product decisions
I signed up for your beta. Definitely seems like a wonderful idea. Looking forward to trying it!
lcusack··on Apple iBeacons
I have to imagine iBeacons could be more about the iwatch than the iPhone. I don't want to take my phone out of my pocket all the time to check for new notifications. I would glance at my watch.
lcusack··on Obama Was Wrong: NSA Employees Have Deliberately "Abused" Their Power
Being a little generous to say "Wrong", I believe it was a blatant lie.
lcusack··on Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook page was hacked by an unemployed web developer
It would be a class act if Mark Z personally paid him the bounty or maybe if FB employees crowdfunded it.

Then they don't have to admit they were wrong and don't look like jerks. Best of both worlds.

lcusack··on Braintree Takes On Stripe, PayPal With Debut Of “Marketplace”

lcusack··on Startup Exchange at Georgia Tech
Looks great! Wish I had this when I was in college.

One thing though, you might consider changing "businessmen" to a gender neutral term.

lcusack··on Lob (YC S13) Debuts a Cloud Printing and Shipping Service for Developers
Although their pricing is a bit high I feel there is clear trend supporting higher price for convenience.

This is the same trail that Stripe blazed. For a little bit of work I could get my own merchant account setup with much lower processing rates but the ease of integration and time savings is worth the cost.

I don't see Lob being that useful for people already doing printing. But I do see it offering a simplicity that will enable a whole new set of business to use printing in creative ways (ours included). Again, somewhat similar to Stripe.

lcusack··on [dead]
This is a great idea and I think it will be successful, nice work.

However, I wonder how the ability for anyone to ask for money for anything is going to impact the crowdfunding market over time. It seems as the tools become more accessible crowdfunding fatigue will get stronger.

lcusack··on Is this what it’s supposed to feel like?
I'm really surprised by the number of people trying to solve the author's problems. I don't think he posted this because he didn't have any good ideas on how to hire someone or wanted copy help on his hiring page.

I think he posted it because sometimes the most helpful thing is knowing that you're not the only one who wakes in the middle of night thinking about payroll and customer acquisition. I think he's wondering if other people have doubts and struggles. And anyone trying to start a company right now would know that as soon as they read it.

So, yes Jason, this is how it's suppose to feel and it's okay that it sucks. Just remember, you're more important than your work.

lcusack··on Just Landed
Love the app and just downloaded it. I do airport runs all the time for my roommates. Really beautiful.
lcusack··on GroupMe: Split the Bill
I think this functionality (mobile first, crowd funding / group payments) could quickly become a more important feature than the group texting.

Great work.

lcusack··on You’re not anonymous. I know your name, email, and company.
I'm not knowledgable in this area but would using a VPN prevent this?
lcusack··on Bank of America Telephone Access Security Hole
On a related note - can anyone give me perspective on the quality of their VPN service?
lcusack··on Our Magic
I think (judging purely from the pictures) his point is that they attempted to integrate the whole supply chain instead of sourcing from local stores and delivering.
lcusack··on CopBlock.org Founder Faces 21 Years in Prison for Reporting Police Brutality
I wish this article was written by an actual journalist. Seems to be very one-sided.
lcusack··on Sean Parker's Airtime deflates
The other problem is that it takes your time. The service may be free monetarily but it is extremely expensive to use.
lcusack··on Who Are The 5 People You Spend Time With?
This idea of friendship is heavily influenced by a western consumeristic culture. Friendship is a transaction, only worth it if we are getting an equal or greater amount out of it. The irony is that when friendship is thought of in this way it ceases to be friendship. It's simply another commodity.

True friendship is based on a covenant relationship. I will be with you no matter what and therefore I am your best friend.
