lcswi··on The New York Times reaches 1M digital only subscribers
That's just a measure of popularity, not quality (however that could be defined).
lcswi··on Origin of the name “Google”
Yes.
lcswi··on Do not let your CDN betray you: Use Subresource Integrity
Thank you!
lcswi··on Free Lossless Image Format
Screw software patents!
lcswi··on Maps.me goes open source
It just costs one single meal to buy the pro version and you support the future free, open source and ad-free development development.
lcswi··on Maps.me goes open source
I love the new interface but you are right about the search. Somehow I thought they had reworked that terrible address 'browser' into a free form search. :-(
lcswi··on France's Government Aims to Give Itself Carte Blanche to Spy on the World
What if the user shares the data directly with a server in the US? People don't care...
lcswi··on Do not let your CDN betray you: Use Subresource Integrity
An additional layer of security does not hurt. Forging a hash.collision at the exact same filesize is harder than an arbitrary size.
lcswi··on Maps.me goes open source
Just download directly from https://download.osmand.net/rawindexes/
lcswi··on Maps.me goes open source
You've got to try osmand!

lcswi··on DMCA notice against oh-my-fish
Nope
lcswi··on What we break when we fix ad blocking
God no! That would throw altruistic websites into the same bucket as clickbait.
lcswi··on Hosting a simple static site on IPFS
That's a horrific url though, any way to 'humanise' that?
lcswi··on I’m Ahmed. Except I’m Not Brown
> But we live in a shitty time where two yahoos can learn to make a bomb online and cause mass destruction

100 years ago you could read how to create explosives in an encyclopedia. A lot of people knew from hobbies and profession. Don't blame the Internet.

lcswi··on Visualizing map distortion
Make sure you drag Russia to China rather than the other way around. Otherwise the differences get exaggerated.
lcswi··on 'Dislike' button coming to Facebook
You would an additional feature to ask the poster for consent before the hug button becomes enabled though, I am not if that complexity can be easily designed.
lcswi··on PostgreSQL Magic
tablefunc() :-)
lcswi··on Show HN: PyFuzz2 – A little fuzzing framework in Python
Not just networked things, you can fuzz anything that takes input, eg a function. Imagine it as 10000 rabid monkeys writing testcases for you.
lcswi··on Sandstorm Oasis hosting open beta and App Market
It's only gmail users that I sometimes have to contact via other means to make them find my mail in the spam...
lcswi··on Thinking Outside the Square: Landscape and Portrait Formats on Instagram
Which is a trivial, minor symptom of stupid services and stupid software. There is no reason to hate portrait video at all.
lcswi··on What Does the OS X Activity Monitor’s “Energy Impact” Actually Measure?
Are you sure? I use redshift and it can control the backlight in addition to the color I believe.
lcswi··on Using Spotify to measure the popularity of older music
* in US pop culture
lcswi··on You Do Not Have to Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day
'Mainstream media'? I mostly hear nutrition tips like this via Facebook posts of dubious pseudoscience lifestyle sites.

We need more decentralised, distributed, censorship resistant service.
lcswi··on China Stock Market Drops 8.5%
Something with bitcoin!
lcswi··on Hackpad source code
Seafile maybe? I never used dropbox but I think it can do all the same. Installation is trivial nowadays and setup is 10 minutes maybe.
