layoutIfNeeded··on Jeanne Calment’s 122-year old longevity record may be fake (2018)
“In 1942, Jeanne’s husband (Yvonne’s father) died from cherry poisoning”

Wait, what? Cherry poisoning??

layoutIfNeeded··on Freenom, the free domains website, is a scam
"Tampering with FREE DOMAIN and Freenom Traffic-Check. You understand that a viewer is engaged in Freenom server infrastructure to record the number of visitors to your Freenom domain name (Freenom Traffic-Check). By accepting this Agreement, you hereby agree that you will not tamper with, disable or limit the functionality of the Freenom Service or the Freenom Traffic-Check in any way, including, but not limited to, disabling or otherwise tampering with the viewer displayed when your domain name is accessed by you or a third party."
layoutIfNeeded··on Reducing CO2 emissions by targeting the world's hyper-polluting power plants
Pretty easy to solve. We know that electricity can go around the Earth 7 times in a second. Now, if Germany has excess electricity during the day, they can simply pospone that electricity by wrapping a long cable 302 400 times around the globe (12h * 3600s/h * 7/s = 302 400). During the day they feed the excess electricity into one end of the cable, and then 12 hours later at night, electricity comes out the other end at just the right time, when they need it!

>Do you remember Web 2.0

Yes. That was when the Web started really going downhill.

layoutIfNeeded··on Freenom, the free domains website, is a scam
>Freenom on the other hand discloses the limited free registration period and the $10 annual registration fees

When the company literally has FREE in its name, and their site is covered with ads boasting “FREE DOMAIN NAMES”, I don’t think that disclosing the true nature of their offer in the fine print legitimizes their business model. It’s a scam, because people didn’t have informed consent, and I don’t care about the legalese.

The good old .tk business model :-)

If I install an internet-connected smart lock on your door for free, then after a few months, I remotely lock you out of your apartment and demand money for letting you in, am I really scamming you? It was free after all!
layoutIfNeeded··on My Fanless OpenBSD Desktop
Ah, the Streacom DB4... what a piece of art!

For a while I was pondering whether to invest in a completely silent home server using the DB4, but it would have meant that I would need to go all-in with solid-state storage, which would get a bit pricey for a 4 Tb RAID10 array :(

This is why you're supposed to add "in Minecraft" at the end of every comment.

I'm 30 years old and using FTP daily.

True. I've updated my comment...
layoutIfNeeded··on Facebook users said no to tracking, and now advertisers are panicking
What? OP was arguing that tracking is necessary...
layoutIfNeeded··on Facebook users said no to tracking, and now advertisers are panicking
>That sense of entitlement makes me sick.

No. It is in fact your sense of entitlement that makes us sick.

Update: ok, after checking danbruc's comment history, they probably weren't arguing for tracking, and the second paragraph should be read in third person... I'll take my downvotes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The optimizer will do this anyway.
layoutIfNeeded··on Is π the Same in Every Universe?
No. Some universes use tau :^)
layoutIfNeeded··on Mapping Perlin Noise to Angles
Ummm... Why not generate a 2D perlin noise and use the gradient as the vector field? Generating angles is the wrong approach...
layoutIfNeeded··on Open letter: Ban surveillance-based advertising
Too bad that advertisers are busy breaking my adblocker again and again. Why could they be doing this? Surely they wouldn't want to waste money by showing me their ineffective advertisements, right...?
layoutIfNeeded··on Open letter: Ban surveillance-based advertising
>The user's time will be wasted because they are not interested in what I am selling.

I'm not interested in what you're selling. In general, I'm 100% not interested in anything anyone is selling through advertisements. Where can I indicate this, so that advertisers stop wasting their money on me?

layoutIfNeeded··on Linux Rust Support
Time to abandon Linux.
layoutIfNeeded··on “I wish I could have licensed the Id source code releases as BSD”
BSD is about being kind to everyone, even unkind people.

GPL is about being kind to everyone, as long as they are as kind as you. When sharing something valuable under a GPL license, you’re incentivizing others to be kind like you.

Obviously, if you’re a millionaire like Carmack, you don’t need others’ kindness to get by, so from his point of view a BSD license is better, as his goal is simply to disseminate his code as widely as possible.

layoutIfNeeded··on EU antitrust: Apple shouldn't use privacy and security to stave off competition
With all due respect, this is not about your open source decentralized peer-to-peer crypto utopia. This is about third-party app stores. This is about Google- and Facebook-type companies gaining unfettered access to the most lucrative user segment (rich iPhone users) and data-mining the crap out of them. This is about billions of dollars of juicy advertising revenue.
layoutIfNeeded··on Single random bit flip causes error in certificate transparency log
Well, it wasn't that hard to uncover actually. We knew that the same build succeeds on our machines. So we only had to find what the difference was between the two :)

As Arthur Conan Doyle put it: "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

layoutIfNeeded··on Single random bit flip causes error in certificate transparency log
Yes, but in this case this was a bit-flip in a third-party binary dependency that we don't have the source code for.
layoutIfNeeded··on Single random bit flip causes error in certificate transparency log
It was a MacStadium (https://www.macstadium.com) build server, so most likely non-ECC.
