latentcall··on Tesla to recall more than 46,000 Cybertrucks due to exterior panel issue
I agree with this. It definitely is out there, and futuristic looking. It’s also totally in cyberpunk standards that it’s just a giant hunk of crap.
latentcall··on Tesla to recall more than 46,000 Cybertrucks due to exterior panel issue
It’s funny because the Ford Pinto is thought of as an example of an unreliable death trap but the deaths from Tesla’s poor craftsmanship and design heavily outweigh the Pinto by a wide margin.

Teslas marketing is genius though, preventing them from being known as death traps by regular people.

latentcall··on Ask HN: Are you afraid to travel to US to tech conferences?
Yes Americans are fairly unhinged and there are definitely lots of shootings but I’ve lived in this land my whole life and haven’t been shot at.

I think you’ll be fine. Shootings here get a lot of media coverage which makes it seem more common than it actually is.

latentcall··on Dutch Parliament: Time to ditch US tech for homegrown options
Anti-technology is just a dog whistle for anti-capital. Billionaires have made things exceptionally worse. Facebook was started as a way to rate women’s faces, is the foundation our data collection industry is built off of. We need to tear down the entire system and rebuild something else.

I can’t even view the comments without signing in. Probably a good thing.
latentcall··on Microsoft quantum computing claim still lacks evidence
Yes but people invest money based on these type of announcements. Maybe not a direct scam though

latentcall··on A V12 BMW 7 Series Fuel Pump Is Now Worth More Than the Entire Car
I’ve always wanted an older BMW, but things like this keep me away. For the fuel pump, could an aftermarket parts company just manufacture the part themselves?
latentcall··on Harvard says tuition will be free for families making $200K or less
I’d happily pay more taxes if it meant my country had healthcare and education.
latentcall··on Harvard says tuition will be free for families making $200K or less
Cool, tuition should be taxpayer funded by the American people, namely the super wealthy.
latentcall··on (Any) 8-hour time-restricted-eating window effective for weight loss
This is all true for me except counting calories. I don’t usually eat things with a barcode. I’m also not good at eyeballing 1/4 cup of pecans, for example. In Noom, it requires specific measurements. So if I eat at the hospital cafeteria and get a salad that the staff makes, I don’t feel comfortable logging it because I guarantee the measurements are off.

Now this is different if I have two bananas for breakfast and an apple. That is easy to track and input.

Is calling out a right wing military state for bombing and killing over 14,000 Palestinian children terrorism? Just talking about it makes you the bad guy, huh?
latentcall··on OpenAI asks White House for relief from state AI rules
Neither does mine so we’re on equal footing!
latentcall··on White House has asked U.S. military to develop options for the Panama Canal
Malcolm Nance suggested the administration has decided to invade Panama, Greenland, and Canada. I guess the destruction of our country is “America First”.
latentcall··on A look at the creative process behind Bluey and Cocomelon (2024)
I have a 10 month old daughter and she mostly loves Bluey for the theme song. However when she watched Sleepytime (an episode of Bluey) with me for the first time she was absolutely glued to the screen. Bluey is the only show I let her watch along with Ms. Rachel every once in awhile.

Bandit (the Dad in the show) has inspired me to be a better Dad and a better husband. I’ve heard people complain that his character sets unrealistic expectations, but if you shift your mindset a little I believe it is totally possible.

One of, if not the greatest kids and parents shows I’ve seen.

latentcall··on A look at the creative process behind Bluey and Cocomelon (2024)
I think you need to look at it as parents spending 8-10 minute periods of time with their kids. In fact there is an episode where the Dad has to go to work and he spends a short amount of time playing with them before he has to go.
latentcall··on Hackintoshing as a sustainable environmental practice
What display servers, drivers do you need to mess with? I have a modern Dell laptop and everything worked immediately. Display, WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, storage, sleep mode, good battery life, every port worked, the webcam worked. This was on Fedora. The case is the same for Debian on a different Lenovo laptop.

I know Linux has this reputation for being difficult to use, no hardware support, etc and if this were 2009 I might agree with that. However, Linux couldn’t be easier to use right now.

Wayland works fine. Pipewire? My speakers on the laptop work good and plugged into a dock with conventional speakers works fine.

I’ve seen this repeated over and over and I don’t believe people are lying, I’m sure some have had the experience recently but I’d like to know what hardware they’re using.

The only reason I can see to use Windows is software support for something proprietary.

latentcall··on ICE arrests Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia protests, lawyer says
Pro-Palestinian is the same thing as pro-Hamas according to AIPAC and the administration. So according to them, yes. According to logical peoples, no,
latentcall··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Yes most of the population does not enjoy that benefit. I understand you only care for yourself, so yes please enjoy the current system that benefits you. Maybe we can a country just for you and send you there.
latentcall··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
They also didn’t like how Harris, a center right politician by all accounts, laughed “too much”.
latentcall··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
It’s just a boogeyman so we can swing this country into full blown fascism. Hitler did the same crap. It’s always somebody else’s fault, usually your friends and neighbors.

latentcall··on Who's Afraid of Peter Thiel? A New Biography Suggests We All Should Be (2021)
Leon has tons of influence unfortunately all over, so yes it’s tantamount to interference. South African citizen shouldn’t have any say in politics outside of South Africa.
latentcall··on Who's Afraid of Peter Thiel? A New Biography Suggests We All Should Be (2021)
> Regardless of your feelings about Elon, what would the strategic implications for the US vs Russia and China be minus SpaceX?

I don’t give a rat. I don’t need or want America to be the numba one nation ever. Doesn’t matter to me. I’d rather the USA take care of its citizens.
