laserdancepony··on Illinois to Become First State to Ban Book Bans
Mein Kampf has never been banned from possession in Germany. It just has not been published in the post-WW2 decades because the copyright holder, the Free State of Bavaria, decided to just not publish it and withhold the right to do so from anybody else. One could readily purchase, sell, or trade old copies at an antiquarian bookstore.

It's now in the public domain, so one could even set up a little publishing company and publish it oneself.

And it's an incredibly awful book, measured to all the 'fame' it holds in certain circles.

laserdancepony··on DESKTOP2 – A Graphical User Interface for DOS
Apparently the author works there, and is hosting this page the classic academic way: out of a user directory (http://mre-web.mevis.fraunhofer.de/~ritter/awakeideas/).
laserdancepony··on How Somali workers in the US are fighting Amazon’s surveillance machine
Because new wage slaves get imported all the time.
laserdancepony··on How Somali workers in the US are fighting Amazon’s surveillance machine
But that would reduce shareholder value. If the employees want to be treated well, they should just become shareholders aswell.
laserdancepony··on Russia’s Nukes Probably Don’t Work – Here’s Why
The current three-day special operation has shown the world how incompetent and corrupt the russian leadership is, no need for gloves.
laserdancepony··on Russia’s Nukes Probably Don’t Work – Here’s Why
Define your adjective, otherwise no one is able to follow.

"Toxic" like in "toxic" masculinity or in toxic chemical?

laserdancepony··on Russia’s Nukes Probably Don’t Work – Here’s Why
Reporting on something, even a possibility, is not gambling on an outcome.
laserdancepony··on Russia’s Nukes Probably Don’t Work – Here’s Why
Economy has taught us well. There is nothing to gain.
laserdancepony··on Intel Explores Transition to 64-Bit-Only X86S Architecture
Yes, Itanium will make the Pentium obsolete!
laserdancepony··on Intel Explores Transition to 64-Bit-Only X86S Architecture
The IA-32 ISA has been so successful _because_ of the no-compromise downward compatibility, whether you like that or not.

See all the revolutionary ISAs from the 80s, 90s and 00s that did away with all that legacy crap. Where are they now? I think the only one still working is POWER.

laserdancepony··on French resistance fighter, 98, reveals mass execution of German prisoners
Allied war crimes? We'll never hear from them again, I suppose.
laserdancepony··on Warp AI – AI directly integrated into the terminal
Warp has been advertising with HN posts for a time now, and I would still prefer using xterm over a terminal emulator that requires a login to use.
laserdancepony··on Suing to protect right of incarcerated people to receive physical mail
And then we do what to uphold the rule of law?
laserdancepony··on Dilbert Dropped by Newspapers over Creator's Racist Rant
I read a Wired article recently that argued for racial segregation of websites.

If it it hadn’t been advocating that from a PoC perspective it would have been considered hate speech I guess.

laserdancepony··on Why the rate of single men in the US looking for dates has declined
> 'but in other ways more regressive/toxic, such as their gender roles and sexuality.'

Have you ever entertained the idea that _that_ US mindset might be part of the problem?

laserdancepony··on Modders are using AI to put voice acting in Morrowind
Morrowind will still not be popular with younger players. I imagine the lack of fast travel, map markers and the class/skill system is just too much for most.
laserdancepony··on Why do you want to touch your Mac screen so badly?
So why do you read and comment on an opinion piece in the first place if you dismiss his opinion in the blink of an eye anyway?
laserdancepony··on Ask HN: How do you find stuff on the internet now?
That‘s Russian IIRC, is it safe to use?
laserdancepony··on Argentina has been trapped in neocolonial debt for 200 years
That's the argument for almost every sea border dispute around the world. And has been for decades. In most cases, no one has seen a single drop of oil.
laserdancepony··on Ask HN: Why Is Everything Declining?
I enjoy the fact the American „clothing culture“, e.g. going to the shop in rags, hasn’t caught on in Europe yet.
laserdancepony··on Tell HN: MS forcing Edge shortcut on desktop
I’ve not been using desktop icons for decades, maybe W98 was the last time. I have never been fond of the cluttering ever since, especially on the larger displays (SVGA does not lend itself to many icons anyway).

To run things on Windows nowadays I mostly use the Alt+Space applet that comes with PowerToys.

laserdancepony··on San Francisco art gallery owner arrested after spraying water on homeless person
I wish for you to experience the terror the store owned endured and report your findings afterwards.

Will be an interesting read, for sure.

laserdancepony··on The IAB loves tracking users but hates users tracking them
Honestly, I don’t know how we’re going to get advertising under control anymore. Nothing that’s not an all-out ban and then allowing a select subset.
laserdancepony··on Ask HN: Why it is hard for US to move to metric system?
The Kelvin scale will absolutely blow your mind. And reading up on standard conditions.
laserdancepony··on Ask HN: Why it is hard for US to move to metric system?
Never seen a hectogram in Europe, everything less than a kilogram is labelled in grams.

Combined with the concerns of another commenter who scratched his head about having to give his body length as 183cm, I come to the conclusion American brains overflow after 99.

laserdancepony··on Ask HN: Why it is hard for US to move to metric system?
At least metric recipes are actually reproducible, not like the tablespoons and cups compounding rounding errors and estimates of the imperial “system”.
laserdancepony··on Ask HN: Why it is hard for US to move to metric system?
I agree, now reintroduce the archaic old currency system to replace the metric pound division you have now. That would really add a certain quirky touch to your financial institutions, foreign trade and tourists will surely love it!

There is more than one way to lead your country back into the late neolithic, just go on.

laserdancepony··on Texas Records All Inmates Last Words Before Execution And Puts Them All Online
Just check the website. Inmates who declined just have empty pages stating just that.

laserdancepony··on Jailbroken iOS can't run macOS apps – I spent a week to find out why (2021)
I liked and used Windows Continuum on my Lumia 950 XL back in the day, but sadly Windows Mobile was killed not long after. It allowed Windows Store apps to run like they would on a regular desktop Windows 10. I had a tiny but surprisingly heavy duty USB-C dock.
laserdancepony··on A Lecturer Showed a Painting of the Prophet Muhammad. She Lost Her Job
Godwin's law never seems to fail.
