lanecwagner··on 2M users but no money in the bank
I don't know if iHiD will see this, but this is Lane, the founder of Boot.dev. One of our students shared this article with me, and it really sucks to see. Exercism has always been a go to recommendation of mine for students who need additional practice or to learn languages we don't yet teach.

I know you mentioned you don't wanna do ads, which makes sense. But if you're getting 1200 sign ups a day thats worth a lot, and id be happy to chat and see if there's a sponsor opportunity thats uninvasive and that could at least keep you going.

anyhow, you can reach me on Twitter @wagslane or via email: lane @ boot dev.

either way, hope things turn around

lanecwagner··on Yerba mate, from Paraguay to Syria
In Paraguay it is indeed cold terere but it is absolutely shared, rarely drank solo
lanecwagner··on Is htmx Just Another JavaScript Framework?
Recently I had Carson on my podcast: https://youtu.be/9H5VK9vJ-aw?si=cv4ScxFTnJMRbsSH

He talked about this idea quite a bit, I love the idea of giving backend developers more control over the UI without resorting to huge JS frameworks

lanecwagner··on The Long History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore
Some might. Most would watch TV, hang out with friends/family, scroll TikTok, workout, and play videogames
lanecwagner··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (June 2023)
Boot.dev / Remote USA / Senior Software Engineer / Full Time

lanecwagner··on Rules for developers to design beautiful UIs without a designer
There are waaaay too many comments here hung up on the border example. This book changed the game for me, I consider myself a much more talented UX/UI designer. I can actually make stuff that doesn't suck now. highly recommend.
lanecwagner··on Portable Django
I found it clever and I welcome it. The history surrounding slavery isn't a taboo subject, what a ridiculous idea. The commenter in no way is condoning slavery.
lanecwagner··on Opossum: Cross-platform web browser written in Golang, optimized for Plan 9
Did you even look at the repo? There are many files.
lanecwagner··on WebContainer API
This is potentially exactly what I'm looking for to take Boot.dev to the next level. I'm a bit worried that it's too JS focused, but if I can hack in the other stuff I need with wasm then this gets really exciting. thanks for posting :)
lanecwagner··on Next, Nest, Nuxt Nust?
That's because you're looking at the wrong alternatives. check out Hugo
lanecwagner··on Migrating from Vue 2 to Svelte
I had to use mithril once and absolutely hated it. Writing my HTML as JavaScript objects? no thanks
lanecwagner··on Ghostly is a simple, lightweight, and fast full-stack framework for Golang
I'll shamelessly plug my course: https://boot.dev/learn/learn-golang
lanecwagner··on Ghostly is a simple, lightweight, and fast full-stack framework for Golang
You really don't need a framework in Go, and probably shouldn't start with one
lanecwagner··on Bloated college administration is making education unaffordable
I'd be interested to see if you have any feedback for me on Boot.dev. we are really trying to make it fun
lanecwagner··on WSL 2: Why you should use real Linux instead
This is pretty silly. These drawbacks are well known, and for the vast majority of users WSL 2 IS a huge step forward.
lanecwagner··on Show HN: Stable Diffusion Image-to-Prompt Tool
super interesting. I recently started using stable diffusion images for my blog posts on https://blog.boot.dev . I got really sick of all the same unsplash and pexels images.
lanecwagner··on Trying new programming languages helped me grow as a software engineer
I love moving domains every so often because changing up tooling and languages is such a great learning experience. Here's a related piece I wrote talking about why I think learners should also be learning multiple programming languages: https://blog.boot.dev/education/learn-multiple-programming-l...
lanecwagner··on Replace the “very” in your sentence
You should add a link to the famous scene about this in Dead Poets Society :)
lanecwagner··on CodeEdit: Open-source code editor for macOS
A native app? What is this 2005? In all seriousness, I can't wait to have fewer and fewer electron apps in the future (hopefully)
lanecwagner··on Stripe Crypto Payouts
Connect is Stripes product that allows you to build marketplaces. I believe this would be how you would pay out your users. e.g. if PayPal used stripe to back their app.
lanecwagner··on Tech Boot Camps Dangled Well-Paid Jobs. They Didn't Deliver
As the creator of Boot.dev, I have every reason to dogpile on these articles bashing boot camps. Don't get me wrong - there are plenty of shitty boot camps out there, and I think online platforms are, if not a better alternative, at least a better starting point for many people.

That said, there are some good boot camps out there that are doing good work. We do need a better way to protect uninformed consumers from getting scammed though - not sure what that looks like yet.

lanecwagner··on Go 1.19 Released
I feel super productive in Go. The strong typing and static compilation just make everything simple and easy
lanecwagner··on CodeMirror 6.0 Stable Release
This is fantastic. I use code mirror for the editor on https://boot.dev and really like it. I'll need to take a look at upgrading to 6
lanecwagner··on Things I don’t want to do to grow my side project
does paddle make taxes a lot easier than stripe? I've been having issues with VAT taxes
lanecwagner··on How SHA-256 Works Step-by-Step
huh, I didn't post this here, but I'm the author and kinda fun to just see it show up. Thanks for the feedback, it's a good point. I'll be making those updates soon.
lanecwagner··on Go’s major versioning sucks – From a fanboy
That's just the landing page/blog. The actual webapp you log into and use is a Go API plus Vue frontend
lanecwagner··on Dune: Spice Wars
Guh, the scrolling is sooooo not intuitive or native
lanecwagner··on Ask HN: How you would redesign a web browser?
I think we should treat web "sites" and web "apps" as two distinct things... Because they are two distinct things.
lanecwagner··on Ask HN: Easiest way to build a CRUD app?
Only a good idea if you already know Go, but I just write simple HTTP servers in Go. I deploy a SPA separately in Vue using netlify.
lanecwagner··on Are Product Hunt's featured products still online today?
Huh, I never thought about that. I mean, I'm literally launching today (Qvault) I hope I'll be around in a year!
