lanecwagner··on Show HN: Horcrux, a Playground for Shamir Secret Sharing
I've seen this before: it's awesome :) For those who are unfamiliar with SSS: https://qvault.io/2020/08/18/very-basic-shamirs-secret-shari...
lanecwagner··on Show HN: Check if my startup ideas have legs
Wow... this is actually a really cool idea. Just gave it a shot: https://provetheywantit.com/project?public_token=pub_eNTRarZ...
lanecwagner··on Scientists develop transparent wood that is stronger and lighter than glass
Eats, chutes, and leaves
lanecwagner··on Ask HN: What blogging software do you use for your SaaS company?
Wordpress because its easy, especially for marketers that aren't techincal
lanecwagner··on Ask HN: Have you been angel investing?
Curious to hear thoughts on this. I'm curious if my project (https://qvault.io) is far enough along to start talking to investors
lanecwagner··on Small Copy, Big Impact
I've never really given microcopy thought... I probably need to look into that. I'm actually really struggling with copy and messaging right now on https://qvault.io. If anyone on here takes a peek at the landing page I would love to hear feedback!
lanecwagner··on Metatron – An Angel in Supernatural Whose Name I Thought Was Invented Recently
I was watching Supernatural last night and became very annoyed with the creators because I thought they had clearly "made up" the angel Metatron while the rest of the story uses names such as "Gabriel", "Ezekiel", and "Michael".

Nope. He was a "real" myth.

lanecwagner··on Lifetimes of Cryptographic Hash Functions
Nice. Here's an article doing a deeper dive on SHA-2 itself: https://qvault.io/2020/07/08/how-sha-2-works-step-by-step-sh...
lanecwagner··on 14,000x Speedup (2015)
Trying to get Bootcamp grads to learn CS is like pulling teeth. The worst thing I hear as an employer is, "I dropped out of my CS degree because the last couple years of classes weren't applicable to daily programming".

I've started Qvault to try to address the problem... We'll see where it goes.

lanecwagner··on Benchmarking static website hosting providers
Thanks for the data. I recently moved https://app.qvault.io from GH pages to Netlify. I liked the simplicity of pages, but Netlify had SSR features that I really needed :P
lanecwagner··on Doodly – The Simplest Drag and Drop Doodle Video Creator
This is cool. I'll be taking a deeper look later. I need something like this for https://app.qvault.io
lanecwagner··on Instagram Down?
Totes down
lanecwagner··on Tell HN: Never search for domains on Godaddy.com
This. Never use them, and never work with people who insist on using them.
lanecwagner··on Go’s Major Versioning Sucks – From a Fanboy
I mean technically its a company, but really its just my personal blog. I read the HN rules and it says you can post again after ~X hours if it didn't get off of "new" (which it didn't)

If there is an article I wrote that I think will do well I usually give it 2 or 3 chances

lanecwagner··on The Joy of Cryptography
This is great! I'm bookmarking it, I'll probably use some stuff in my sequel to the "Practical Cryptography" course I just released: https://qvault.io/practical-cryptography/
lanecwagner··on Bcrypt Step-by-Step
This is fascinating. Want to write an article on Qvault about it? xD
lanecwagner··on Bcrypt Step-by-Step
Assuming you can find a battle testing implementation
lanecwagner··on Bcrypt Step-by-Step
Author here - and I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've done articles of Bcrypt and Scrypt and while Scrypt seems better theoretically, it can be harder to find a battle tested implementation
lanecwagner··on Show HN: GradientMagic
This is so sick! I just swapped out my background images on https://classroom.qvault.io/ for some of these gradients. Loads way faster AND looks better now. Thanks for sharing :)
lanecwagner··on They Who Control Encryption
Bill 4050 mentioned in the article really is a piece of shit - "To improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to access encrypted data, and for other purposes."
lanecwagner··on They Who Control Encryption
The bill (4051) mentioned towards the bottom is a real piece of work: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/405...

Imagine being unable to use open-source standards legally without providing a backdoor.

lanecwagner··on Ask HN: What are you using new programming languages for?
Go and Rust are two of my favorite examples. Go has a focus on minimalism and concurrency that makes backend engineering enjoyable. Rust is C without the memory problems and a decent package manager. Cool stuff for sure. I've recently built a Go-in-the-browser course for those who want to dip their toes in https://qvault.io/go-mastery/
lanecwagner··on Launch HN: Interactive Go Course Using WASM in Browser
If you want to try the Go Course use this coupon code to get the gems you need: JUQE55
lanecwagner··on Online classes are not worth cost of full tuition
In-class classes aren't worth it either... Modern tech facilitates advances in education that haven't been taken advantage of. We need to:

* Gamify the experience * Focus on mastery * Build a community online that replaces the classroom

I'm currently working on a project that aims to do the above, but admittedly we are in the early stages: https://classroom.qvault.io

lanecwagner··on Show HN: Interactive Go Course Using WASM in Browser
Thanks. I'll work on the landing page this week. For more information immediately however, the main site is https://qvault.io
lanecwagner··on Show HN: Interactive Go Course Using WASM in Browser
Thanks for the feedback. I need to get a link to this on the signup page, but you can try out the editor at https://classroom.qvault.io/playground/go
lanecwagner··on Show HN: Interactive Go Course Using WASM in Browser
Let me know if you have feedback/questions! This only recently went live and we are very much in a rampant iteration process.
lanecwagner··on Very Basic Intro to Elliptic Curve Cryptography
Author here, thanks for bringing this up. I'll be looking into this and updating the article
lanecwagner··on How SHA-2 works step-by-step (SHA-256)
Author here: LMK if you have ideas for improvements, nice to see some interest in crypto(Graphy) from the community
