kwccoin··on Statistical Analysis with Lisp-Stat
There is some migration aid for this, as it is really common lisp based statistical package like xlisp.

https://lisp-stat.dev/docs/resources/xlisp/

kwccoin··on Ukrainian scientists rush to save irreplaceable collections
Winner has to take over history. As said, controlling history (like there is no starting of Ukraine around 1000 C.E. by Viking, otherwise the "since ancient time there is no Moscow but a forest" does not work very well for occupier) is the key to control a country.

Just like the non-one China may have more time than the one-China and definitely many of the Chinese territory is not China, until Qing-Ming. Well, many of the Russian terriorties are actually Qing. What is China then, a question cannot be asked even if you loved China (as you have to give 1/4 of the Qing land to Russia ...).

Who control the past control the future. Take care, the occuiped will say those are fake objects.

kwccoin··on One Year with R
Shocking. I still using the xlisp-stat based social simulation book first edition (20+ years ago). The move to ... does not fit my mind. I do not know there is a re-start!!!
kwccoin··on One Year with R
Have been using SPSS decades and I think it is a good statistical tool for those who do not want to do programming much. It gives me something Iu can easily explain to and teacher other statistical users (e.g. hand in many papers with some regression analysis in it and team members who have no programming experience and do NOT want to learn much other than absolutely minimum and necessary; they are social scientists and that is it). I knew R, python, SPSS, SIR/DBMS and most of SAS all can do this. Frankly only SPSS they can use. And I believe they can use it after I am not in the picture anymore still. That is the use case of SPSS. There are more people in that hole than your think.
kwccoin··on Lapsus$ hackers leak 37GB of Microsoft's alleged source code
Whilst it might be treasure for hacker, but for "learner" could I say any Windows are horrible precisely due to this baggage.
kwccoin··on Ask HN: Why are there no open-source printers?
I thought the open source (in fact free source) started with printer driver ... It is always closed but you can hack it. As regards for the ink it is a different matter. Can you have open source printer but the ink is sort of close in some sense. You can open the source but not the keys I wonder.

kwccoin··on Google offers free fabbing for 130nm open-source chips
The difference is one is pure public good but hardware is not that pure. And hence you have other concerns and other means.
kwccoin··on Republican Congress members upset banks dropping support for fossil fuels
Brief:

People employed in wind = 2 x in coal and in solar = 5 x in coal

And not supporting sunset technology would please Margaret and Ronan I guess, and in particular Margaret has fought the coal mining industry in UK. Yes, it should have handled it better. But is it now the right wing supporting the coal like the left wing supporting it in the past.

Great move, Republican.

kwccoin··on The Beauty of Calculus [video]
I think whilst the video is great, the guy missed the deep question raised by the audience.

Using the language in the talk, the question is may be God speak Calculus but is it the only language it/he/she speak?

You have that concern whilst just like a predecessor in post Pythagoras, post Newton, post Einstein, post QM, post AI, we got a strong and strong "understanding" and manipulation of the universe. And those understanding provide us with a great physical well being and more wealth. But is the world a better place?

The tradition question is still why we can send people to the moon but never able to solve the problem of ghetto.

Minor issue: Even he has to admit the assumption of continuity (which mathematically different from differential but mostly do), there are many are discrete and non-differential. Hence God if it/he/she has to cover everything, he must have to speak another language. QED

BTW I like the T-shirt and go to study more calculus. Great talk.

kwccoin··on Technical Details on the Recent Firefox Add-On Outage
Do they follow basic PKI best practice. Do they actually know (not after the fact) the certification path validation algorithm. It shall be auto.

Is Firefox use the normal PKI authentication mechanism. Their reaction is like this is a surprise and even signing intermediate cert as the first step and instead of talking about bypass or hack the whole PKI trust chain.

Based on some of the comments here, I think one has to understand that it is not just timestamp and validity. The checking of PKI is per transaction and on a continuous basis. It is NOT just based on signing but also based on CRL (cert. revocation list) which is also key.

I read the blog a few time. I feel frightened not enlightened. It seems they are not on the ball. A minor mistake (forget to renewal cert. like O2 (not sure but heard same issue)) gave a lot of lights on issues.

Do they have CPS even ... :-) or :-(((

kwccoin··on How to slice your code into continuations
I suspect the 2nd "c" is "b" if you look a bit further the continuation. But as for the first "d" in return, no idea.
kwccoin··on Unhackable: New chip stops attacks before they start
The battle of sex in evolutionary game is precisely along this angle. Well it is a better defense as the surface of attack change. But then the virus/bacteria evolve as well. Just like firewall, it block a bit but all attack now concentrate on html/click-bait/social ... all legitimate path. Never unhackerable.
kwccoin··on Let’s LISP like it’s 1959 [video]
Waiting for it and can it port to multiple platform like pi, iOS, Andorid, browser ... etc. Obviously can be a joint effort but once the basic is done, we can have a new and refreshing effort.

I always think that why PAIP is great you always have this feeling like Star Trek NG. Suddenly you have a function that works. BTW, I think the other web sites http://www.gigamonkeys.com/book/ would be good.

Not one person but if there is a basis we can grow the community, especially if one can port to Pi and iOS.

kwccoin··on Struck by a Thunderbolt
May be a warning not to plug anything except eGPU and power in that slot. But then you have apple only have that slot ... Still need eGPU in any case
kwccoin··on The Jonathan Computer (2015)
Seems a winning design. You can do both. And wining or not depends upon application and I do not think desktop publishing would use DOS.
kwccoin··on Remembering a Programming Language That Helped Shape the Digital New York Times
Domain specific language. Finance has one from APL. Why not news room have one.
kwccoin··on Is Matter Conscious? (2017)
Let us reduce this to a simpler question. Can Matter detect i.e. collapse quantum wave? If it is conscious but cannot even detect quantum event, is it really conscious? As this is physical event we can check, we can at least determine that.
kwccoin··on The Free and Open Internet
For that case, it should use the economist model of you have x free article per month. Then those really burn you like an orange head waving his hair you can read. Or the last word of X.

The title is a bit problematic though. What is meant by free and open if 1/5 of human beings are not allowed to read anything written in English be default. You may argue that is because of their government and people deserve ... But no. I blame it on Internet very design. We were told in 1990s that it is free and open. At worst the commence may have to be tolerant but we can at least offer ourselves and others may. That is within that context this article is. But what we have missed in this context the infrastructure of Internet is not free and open. It is in fact not just closed but a means to monitor every word without a chance to delete.

Free and Open. RIP the last words of Internet.

kwccoin··on Build your own dial-up ISP in 2019
A related question when Putin ask to cut off Russia from the Internet or China's eGreat Wall, can the BGP with your own ISP can override it.

kwccoin··on Build your own dial-up ISP in 2019
I wonder as many do not actually use the mobile phone as a phone and we have sometimes 1000 min free, can we use mobile phone as a kind of isp. It can connect to internet via calling?

Not sure any notebook with sim card can do as not sure they take call.

kwccoin··on Windows Server 2019 Includes OpenSSH
To be fair to Kodak, it is very hard to invent digital photography but fail greatly to use it. Or Xerox, ... or IBM who is the largest PC seller exactly the time when it was overwhelmed by Microsoft.

An organisation large enough would have middle management and people who promote from within. And they are successful in one culture and it worked even for customers.

Then ...

kwccoin··on Making Games in Lisp with Hypergiant and Chicken Scheme
Surprise to see a Go board displayed. But given Alpha Go, is Lisp is still relevant or is there a way for chicken to call say leela zero?
kwccoin··on On Self-Publishing “A Programmer’s Introduction to Mathematics”
I thought he has replied about the difficulty and costly to do the epub and mobi due to maths questions in the OP.
kwccoin··on On Self-Publishing “A Programmer’s Introduction to Mathematics”
Bought the book. My first maths book after the one bought by father in 1977 titled "elementary set theory". Hope this one is better.
kwccoin··on Do I really need to get out the soldering-iron again?
@13a note this “... (2) every single Apple product.” work but not PC and phones. Consistent with the article trying both Android and Linux ... Consistent with image that Apple is in the A/V world. Just wonder there are exception e.g. would Sony (a multimedia company) would have the same problem.
kwccoin··on Show HN: Lisp with copying GC in 537 lines of C (plus Lisp 1.5 on top)
Before I try, just always have a question - is it lisp-1 or lisp-2? Is it scheme/lisp?

Given the lisp15.scm is a scm it seems to be underlying is a lisp 1.5 running under scheme. But given it is doing make, is it just share code?

Too many of this but really want to have a code for simple C based lisp to play with. Is that it?
