kuerbel··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
They haven't brought up any argument at all, they simply said that "millions imported into the system do not contribute", which is not an argument or a fact. Just a statement. What is there to discuss? Why are you holding my comment to a different standard, because you don't agree or what?

But just for you I have looked up the facts: 1.1 million Ukrainian refugees, and half of them are employed by now. 1.1 million including children, elderly, and so on, people who aren't able to work. A) its not "millions" B) german overall employment rate is about 45.5 million employed people out of 83.5 million residents. So they are totally in line with the average population.

kuerbel··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
That is not anti solidarity, I know Afternative für Deutschland voters like to frame it this way but it's not.
kuerbel··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
That is not "fucked up" it is called the solidarity principle. You contribute when you have the capacity to contribute, and society protects you when you happen to need more than you can afford. Netflix is a consumer product, and health insurance is risk pooling. You're treating health insurance as if you're buying healthcare services. You're not. You're buying protection against an uncertain financial risk.

Also you forgot the contribution assessment ceiling at €69,750/year.

However, Germany has a legitimate problem when contribution levels, service quality, and access aren't aligned with what people feel they're paying. That is a different discussion which needs much more nuance and intimate knowledge of the German healthcare system.

>One of the most regressive precepts of the German system.

If you mean the existence of two-tier private/public insurance, yes. The two-tier system was abolished in most of Europe for good reason. Either they abolished substitutive private insurance, restricted it, or transformed private insurers into regulated providers of universal basic coverage, e.g. very recently in the Netherlands.

Accountability, mostly. Either by gamification, for example a simple small whiteboard counting how often I did y (or not, that would be a strike). Couple with someone holding me accountable it works wonders, throw in a "punishment" or reward... Or, if that doesn't fit, deadlines (which maybe is just another kind of accountability...). Both made me finish my degree in time and with a very good grade (A in Americano?).

How to translate this into the workplace, I'm not sure. You might have a supportive workplace and can be open about it, which is what I did.

It's easier to bear that there might be a conspiracy, than that this outcome is the result of chaos and stupidity and greed. Also it makes you think you are smarter than anyone else.

They tested passages. It is absolutely trivial to find passages that pangram classifies as 100% ai gen even if it's not the case.
kuerbel··on Uproar in France over award-winning author accused of using AI
best blog post I know about this: https://freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/i-wouldnt-say-pangram-i...

"Experimenting, I’ve also found that I can pretty reliably get Pangram to declare large sections of text to be AI-written or human-written depending on the larger textual context I place those sections in - that is, I can take AI-generated text and embed it in human-generated text and have Pangram declare it 100% human, and I can take human-generated text and embed it in AI-generated text and have Pangram declare it 100% AI. I’ve also found that it’s pretty easy to induce false positives, that is, to write texts myself that Pangram identifies as AI-written. All of this makes me hesitant about the Pangram tool, and in particular the way many people use it, as a one-shot gotcha machine."

Sounds like it may be very easy for someone motivated enough to find sections, even longer sections, that turn out as 100% AI written.

... if you own a Tesla (I do, I know what I'm talking about) you should service your brakes after every winter, you should also change your brake fluid after two years but that can be stretched for a bit. And the AC needs real service after around 4 years.

Still less than an ICE.

So sad to see that the Israel of Yitzhak Rabin only exists in traces anymore. He was not perfect, but after Peres it mostly went downhill... Ehud Olmert comes to mind as a positive influence in Israeli politics though.
kuerbel··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
That is not at all supported by evidence though. You might do that but it's an anecdote.

E.g this survey: https://www.nexttv.com/news/a-hit-driven-biz-40-of-consumers...

"40% of Consumers Sign Up For an SVOD Service to Watch a Specific Show"

Or this Ipsos survey:

https://www.marketingcharts.com/digital/video-235725

[...]almost 4 in 10 (38%) agree that they often subscribe to a channel to watch a specific show[...]

kuerbel··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
That is the internet equivalent of fare dodging. Some people are doing it? Not that much of a problem. More people are doing it? See, they'll say it's not worth it anymore to produce expensive shows and movies. And that's it.

I'd rather see a healthy physical media culture again. Hard to enshitify that.

kuerbel··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
It depends on the product though. The problem with streaming is that structurally, you have competition (other streaming services) but content wise not so much. If you want to watch Foundation, you need Apple tv. Netflix might have another good SciFi series, but it's not foundation... same for any other movie or series... in a way, people are more open to accept these terms because they want to watch their favorite show. So there is no real competition. And they get away with it because customers accept it.

kuerbel··on Bad benchmarks and evals: Senior SWE-Bench, napkin math, and winter tires
A lot of drivers don't want it to be true but the quality of the tires absolutely matters. E.g. the usual ADAC test winner are actually good in dry conditions, but they are also expensive. The worst are just bad, but cheap. You get what you pay for. The best winter tires outclass bad summer tires, even up to lower middle end.

The worst tires however are all-seasons.

kuerbel··on Why the AfD Wins
Citing the jüdische Allgemeine while discussing antisemitism is a joke, they call you an antisemite if you say out loud that Palestinian children are humans and have a right to live.

>That’s funny because then people can say the same thing about AfD as well. Like they are bad people unwanted people joined AfD to make it look bad just like they do for the left party.

Not really, no. At the beginning when they were small, maybe. But the difference is that the left is distancing from antisemitism while the AfD is not and will never distance themselves from racism.

kuerbel··on Why the AfD Wins
You just said:

>I'm not German and knew little of this subject

Yet now you know their party stance by heart and come to their rescue? That is Sus, with a capital S.

>They want to deport undocumented migrants and remigrate certain refugee groups, such as Ukrainians.

This is not what they really want, is it now? They also want to deport Germans with attained citizenship. It's what they said out loud. There are records of this. Anything else is

>parroting a

right wing

>lie.

kuerbel··on Why the AfD Wins
Fact check before posting. German gdp growth was negative in 2023 and 2024 since then its positive again. And it was positive before. Wage growth was nominal 28% since 2017.

>I face people are taking home even less money due to the increased social contributions imposed by this government.

You face what? Anyways, the only thing they did was raising the ceiling for contributions which has no effect on low and middle incomes, which you seem to care a lot about.

>Euro is a ticking time bomb and the currency would collapse when France cannot pay its debt anymore

France is not going to default anytime soon.

kuerbel··on Why the AfD Wins
Nothing in this sentence is true. There is a network that is not part of the left that is trying to do this. But the official party line is different.

Anyone can join a party and make it look bad, if they bring their friends even doubly so.

Not to mention that a honest discussion about Israeli war crimes, their government and its members, and finally settlements is long overdue in german society.

>Why would you ever expect that you would have a choice of what products you use at work?

Umm Because of worker protection laws? For example the Betriebsrat has the right to have a say in this. Second what if the product is very much inferior and the whole company would be more productive with another product?

> You are being paid to work there.

Yes and that means if I see an improvement opportunity or if I have concerns I will voice them. I'm being paid to improve the company, not be a cog in the machine.
