I just read this blog post, and I think I am biased: http://paulbuchheit.blogspot.com/2009/01/communicating-with-...
nice page design and all, but without creating a user, I don't understand a lot from that front page. Maybe you can provide a demo user, so that people can see what they can get.
Apart from that, I think not only in US but all around the world, these kinds of taxes should be reduced. But in only favor of the employees. I mean, an employer should have an option to pay tax or spend that amount on creating new jobs. Otherwise, rich bussinessowners spend that tax money (or save it for worse days) and also still spend their employees when their bussiness is not good.
However, once you get the basics it's quite fast and also have threads, networking, file streaming etc, so you don't need a zillion of libraries to do every little thing. Oh, and it has a great OpenGL support (see my projects at http://www.ccsoft.com.tr for screenshots)
With the help of wxFormBuilder (a free design tool), now design and modfications are very much faster.
Besides, it's been there for about 15 years. There is a decent documentation, a book, a large community to answer your questions.
My only plan is to do a project on wxPython and polish my python knowledge and see which (C++ or Python) suits me better.
another popular game development site is gamedev.net, you can post in their forums and may find skilled people.
2. I am so used to old fashion competitors' e-mail clients and too dumb to learn new things, yet "I am a technology columnist who has written about everything from HDTVs to computers to Flowbee Haircut Systems"
3. I love to use mouse for every action.
4. I hate to use mouse for every action. (and as nirmal points out I am too dumb to learn how to do what I want to do, I prefer to complain)
5. Once in five times, I can come up with some features that everyone can like..
Having read your article and responses here, I feel like this discussion resembles (opengl vs directx) || (c/c++ vs java) || (python vs perl) kind flame wars. And no, there is not a single way for enterpreneurship imho. There are at least two major ways, bootstrapping or having funded. Both have pros and cons. If you are clever and well prepared, you can be successfull either way or unseccessfull whatever you do. There is no recipe, you choose your own way according to your own circumstances and work it out..
good luck again..
I might agree with expensive/inexpensive but who says US developers are more skilled than others? On what grounds, study, statistics can anyone claim that?
Just curious though, why does it have to be a web app? Why not just a plugin to my favorite spreadsheet application, or just a small standalone app that I can use on my PC..
I am sure other people here can suggest alternatives from python etc, I am just a c++ guy..
Yes, it's encouraging to have success stories but let's face it, there are a few Jobs and many other clever, dedicated people.. who happen to lose their jobs without their control..
Prototype with Matlab, implement with C++. That's what I usually prefer. I am not a Python expert, just learning it. but I think it will be slower than C, and less powerful than Matlab, from my perspective of working.
and yes, I am being sarcastic..
