koheripbal··on Anna's Archive loses .org domain after surprise suspension
To add a little context, this suspension comes immediately after Anna's Archive publicly implicated themselves in the Spotify scraping "hack" in which they downloaded nearly the entire content library of Spotify and was preparing to release it publicly (~300TB worth) via torrent.

They published a blog post outlining their plans.

koheripbal··on Hopes for Finding Mars Life After Rover's Ground-Penetrating Radar Discovery
I think he means it would need to be calibrated on Mars as the exact ground density and composition isnt known from earth
koheripbal··on Cities are asking SCOTUS for more power to clear homeless encampments (2023)
I know someone who works as a social worker in a homeless shelter.

She is the sweetest young woman in the world.

It is a hellish job. I cannot even imagine her managing belligerent addicts. She would quit in a heartbeat.

These rules are in place for the simple reason that workers demand it

koheripbal··on Five richest men double their money as poorest get poorer
> Even those of us dabbling in stocks must find this increase mind-boggling

No, those of us invested in tech stocks have also seen large double digit returns this year alone.

koheripbal··on A math professor who objects to diversity statements
> new ideas for advancing equity and inclusion

It means providing research containing useful narratives that can be used by others to promote DEI political objectives.

For example, in math it means publishing commentary on how math is widely used for racial discrimination and should generally not be trusted. See the popular book "Math Is Racist". Several Mathematicians are cited in the book.

koheripbal··on Hidden Changes in GPT-4, Uncovered
YYYY-MM-DD is the international standard more of us should use.
koheripbal··on Gas utilities used tobacco tactics to avoid gas stove regulations
A simple Airthings or Awair air quality monitor shows you the VOC rate in the home and it is easy to see how a fan keeps the levels at zero or even just opening a window drops the pollutant rate to almost zero very very quickly after cooking.

I trust my data over internet opinions.

koheripbal··on Gas utilities used tobacco tactics to avoid gas stove regulations
That's why furnaces have a chimney.
koheripbal··on Gas utilities used tobacco tactics to avoid gas stove regulations
Non-Western powers are doing the exact same thing online.

... and have been caught and demonstrated to be doing it explicitly.

Not sure why you focus on the less demonstrated western powers doing it.

koheripbal··on Gas utilities used tobacco tactics to avoid gas stove regulations
...lots of things SHOULD be true, but are not in practice.
koheripbal··on Fracking for Europe [video]
The only clean energy that is capable of producing constant power is nuclear power.
koheripbal··on Fracking for Europe [video]
There is no correlation between asthma and fracking. There is not even a plausible mechanism for such a causal relationship. That is a very odd point to make.
koheripbal··on An existential problem in the search for alien life
It seems likely that, like us, intelligent life invents AGI prior to leaving their primary planet.

Organic life is then merged/exterminated/controlled in favor of AGI.

AGI would not have the biological instinct to grow/spread/reproduce, and thus the cosmos should be populated with a handful of individual billion year old super advanced AGIs, perhaps only one or two per galaxy, sitting quietly in orbit around some stable star or perhaps even in the great voids outside the galaxy somewhere.

Finding one is likely near impossible as they may not want to be found.

koheripbal··on Cat parasite linked to mental illness, schizophrenia
It's crazy that this is so widespread, has brain disease implications, and yet there is no treatment for the hundreds of millions of people worldwide currently infected.

What is likely worse is that they can only document the worst cases, and cannot measure the subtler impacts on seemingly healthy infected people.

Maybe this is a major cause of ADD, or depression, or dyslexia, or autism, etc... we haven't done the research, so we aren't even bothering to test or treat a clearly extremely common infection. Its stupid.

koheripbal··on 23andMe confirms hackers stole ancestry data on 6.9M users
That would not have protected 23andme from this issue. Password complexity does not stop password reuse.
koheripbal··on OpenAI Committed to Buying $51M of AI Chips from a Startup Backed by Sam Altman
Because on social media virtue signaling works better than good deeds.
koheripbal··on Raiders of the Lost Ark Story Conference (1978)
11 is insane but the notion that a 16-17 year old girl can date a 22 year old boy was not so unusual in the 1970s.
koheripbal··on Common pesticides in food reducing sperm count worldwide, study says
As an aside, my wife and i were having trouble conceiving, so i bought a cheap microscope just to sanity check that my sperm were alive and kicking.

Of all the things my kids and i have looked at under the microscope, sperm is some of the most entertaining to watch.

While it's obviously not a definitive measure of fertility, you can tell a lot by just observing them, and seeing at seemingly millions of sperm going crazy took the stress out of trying and we became pregnant soon after.

koheripbal··on Yann LeCun: AI one-percenters seizing power forever is real doomsday scenario
I can't tell if this comment is just naive or sarcastic antisemitism. Can you elaborate?
koheripbal··on Drugmakers are set to pay 23andMe to access consumer DNA
Big pharma does not run insurance
koheripbal··on How to find a lost phone in a no-cell-coverage camping site?
Stolen property with an address and evidence will always get actioned. It's easy and rewarding for them.

Online or telephone stuff won't. It is much more complex and requires system knowledge.

It's that simple.

koheripbal··on Engineered material can reconnect severed nerves
Usually they just don't work
koheripbal··on Internet traffic in Israel surged 170% right after the Hamas attack
Gaza borders Egypt and the Mediterranean.
koheripbal··on Israeli army says it does not have 'confirmation' that 'Hamas beheaded babies'
Confirmation has since been provided by various international press idek of them scene. There are also videos and pictures circulating.

It is a horror show.

koheripbal··on Empires of the Steppes: The Nomadic Tribes Who Shaped Civilisation
In many of those cases the settled peoples they coexisted with are the settled descendents of those same nomadic raiders. That shared ethnicity, language, trade, and intermarriage is what protected them.

The nation of Turkey is a strong historically recent and well documented example of that, with Turkic tribes displacing Kurds, Armenians, and Greeks, not coexisting with them (long term). In short periods, of course there were some cases of peaceful coexistence, but power politics always finds a way to capitalize on ethnic divisions through violence.

Bulgaria and Hungary are much earlier era examples (still visible in genetic testing) . The displaced Slavic and Germanic tribes refugee crisis brought upon various Roman crises in multiple waves, ultimately driving the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.

koheripbal··on Missing girl found using fingerprints on ransom note
That's theoretically possible, but fingerprints are very plausible cause for IDing the suspect.

It's certainly the simplest explanation

koheripbal··on Missing girl found using fingerprints on ransom note
You suggest this but there is no evidence of that here
koheripbal··on Missing girl found using fingerprints on ransom note
You believe that based on what evidence?
koheripbal··on Costco gold bars are selling out within hours
If one bank collapsed you can collect your non-can assets because they are custodians not owners.

If the entire system collapsed then you should be holding food, not gold.

koheripbal··on Box of donated artifacts turns out to be treasure trove of Neanderthal bones
There is a theory that some modern dental alignment issues are caused by the blending of genes across different ethnic groups.
