I suggested one my students simply install LaTeX and he went down some Docker rabbit hole a fellow class mate sent him. Students do love to over complicate things.
Footpath parking makes me unreasonably angry.

Shoot RAW and you can tweak the image better to pull down the brightness of the sky to help the colours stand out.

It mostly just arranges simple spheres and cylinders. You can have it label parts which are usually correct.
It struggles with the orientation of things so if you ask it to model a plane the engine nacelles are oriented the wrong way but correctly positioned.
It’s perfect for my needs as an educator and I know just enough to be able to show other educators how to create and deploy their own learning materials.
The main forum I frequented has a dispute resolution area where people could appeal infractions. It was full of people arguing about this type of stuff over something as trivial as a week long ban from some topic forum. Occasionally there would be an over zealous mod too.
Interestingly while the moderation of increasingly large and consolidated online communities becomes more automated and inflexible I’ve noticed that attitudes to rules around our public spaces have eroded into pure selfishness.
It seems there is nowhere people won’t drive and abandon their cars. Cycle tracks, footpaths (sidewalks) grass verges, parks, playing fields etc. it seems that this is simply accepted.
I’ve seen police and private security lazily patrol around parks where vehicles are not allowed in their cars. There’s no appetite for a physical on foot presence. You rarely see police on the street. The exception was during Biden’s recent visit to Dublin, there was literally a Garda on every street corner for a week.
Our local sports club patrons abandon their cars all over the grass area at the entrance to the local park when there is a half full car park right across the road.
Outside our local supermarket people will leave their cars on the footpath outside the store rather than park in a space mere metres away.
All of this is confounded by a police force (Irish Gardai) that don’t seem to give a damn.
I argued with a guy on Thursday who drove down a segregated cycle lane and up onto the footpath so he could leave his car right outside the house he was visiting. He saw nothing wrong with it. Only when I pointed out the kids trying to get around his car did he finally show some shame for his behaviour. I was furious.
Car brain is a growing problem.
It probably isn’t anything Facebook is doing.
Then they released a new version of it to be compatible with iOS and enable all the continuity and handoff stuff. Then all the problems started. It simply wouldn’t work. Devices couldn’t be discovered, files couldn’t be sent. Handoff would eat half written emails. The problem was due to the replacement of mDNSresponder with discoveryd which they eventually rolled back.
In fairness it’s been fixed for some time now and I’ve got no more problems with it.
I still use it in my office for backups with a new disk. I wish Apple still made them and made swapping disks tool free.
It usually goes like this:
Me: Hey Siri, “bedroom on” in 15 minutes.
Siri: who is speaking?
Me: $Name
Siri: I don’t recognise your voice… setup personal requests bla bla.
Me: Hey Siri, who am I?
Siri: You’re $Name!
Me: Hey Siri “Bedroom on” in 15 minutes.
Siri: Who’s Speaking?
Me: @%#+#!!!
Siri then goes into a loop asking who I am and then ends with “Hi!”
Five minutes later,
Me: Hey Siri, “Bedroom on” in 10 minutes.
Siri: okay $Name I’ve set bedroom on for 12:08.
So it’s not the voice recognition, it’s whatever’s going on after that step.
For example you might search for a street in maps and search will just give up and just give you a half arsed result. Searching for HN Boulevard might instead HN Avenue even though you can see the correct result right there on the map.
You see similar behaviour in Music, App Store etc.
It’s fun to see how it deals with UI elements.
