Having a native app means it is there—you can share things from other applications, and it is easy to see it as a distinct entity that can be opened by clicking on the icon in the app drawer (you can do this with web apps; it's just that now there are load times, you may need to re-login, etc.). Apps allow offline functionality, access to device sensors and features, etc in a more seamless way. I hope the progressive web apps are able to do these things in the future.
In addition to all this, if you are a sophisticated user with an eye for detail, even for native applications, you want the right kind of native app that uses the OS's own widgets, icons, and UI patterns. It is a tough place for new services to gain acceptance.
State of desktop search is very bad but this is what I use. It is of acceptable quality.

- it is easy to copy

- and at the same time it will preserve the ability to click to select, too.
>> Put another way, many tools for thought are public goods. They often cost a lot to develop initially, but it’s easy for others to duplicate and improve on them, free riding on the initial investment. While such duplication and improvement is good for our society as a whole, it’s bad for the companies that make that initial investment. And so such tools for thought suffer the fate of many public goods: our society collectively underinvests in them, relative to the benefits they provide.

These were internal training that could be used to satisfy professional accounting designation's annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements to renew your profesional membership (so you could continue using your chartered accountancy / CPA letters after your name).
"The Firm has designed its training program to serve multiple purposes, including to provide Firm personnel with technical instruction, to further their professional development, and to satisfy some of the continuing professional education requirements imposed by the accountancy boards that grant CPA certifications to the Firm’s auditors."
It was not just the juniors. Even partners are involved:
"Improper sharing of training test answers occurred among junior staff, managers, directors, and partners at the Firm."
I am surprised that this was self-reported, and I applaud them for that.

Since this is a thread on Walkman I'd like to ask you on any dedicated music player that you'd recommend?
See Andrew Hyatt's Emacs calculator for Financial calculation tutorial: http://web.archive.org/web/20171218022230/https://plus.googl...

I use the Emacs calculator (M-x calc) and XCalc (http://www.tordivel.no/xcalc/) as I like to use RPN calculators. The Windows 10 calculator is painful and slow. XCalc has a mini mode, where it will sit as a small, single line without distracting you too much. I like that feature very much.
One thing with Emacs is that I forget the shortcuts for non-frequent calculations that I'd have to go and search for it.
Take the calculator application included with Windows 10. It takes time to load. Earlier it was instantaneous. It takes up way more screen real estate too. Maybe the new design helped them to make this app easier to use on touch devices, but from my perspective, in all other respects it is going backwards.
