Remember when the music labels themselves were the baddies?
But… that’s probably not in scope for your tool.
If you’re the smartest person in the room, yea, that might be a red flag.
But, here’s some different advice though: get the company to hire someone more experienced. Be willing to give up some oversight responsibilities to that person. (Or hire someone who is experienced and explicitly doesn’t want to play the politics game.)
I felt like I was in a similar situation fresh out of school. It wasn’t until my company hired an incredibly talented person that I felt I was finally learning from someone (beyond reading books… back in that day, they were still pretty relevant and up to date).
I suspect these are all so hand crafted that there’s not much in the way of code.
#54 is good for showing comparable increases in sites between years, right? But if the story you’re telling is primarily “how many sites were there then? How many now?” you kinda have to squint and guess. (One could improve on this one, as you suggest. But the primary story would still be rates of change.)
From my experience literally yesterday, they were pretty prompt. But we have a private shared Slack channel—something I suspect they’ll set up if you’ve got high user commitments.
(To the OP’s question, though: we’re not doing anything public facing.)
(I’m an Apple reader of HN and I didn’t know this either!)
Having said that, speaking as a Macalester alumnus, I wouldn’t put it past them to be a bit petty behind the scenes :)
If you’re in the UK, you’ve probably heard our jingle or received a directory in the post. We’re a platform for finding thoroughly vetted tradespeople. (Sort of like Angie’s List in the states, but different monetisation model.) We’re hiring for a couple of software engineering positions including a Staff Engineer in the Monetisation team (backfilling me).
This team’s backend is pretty .NET heavy but the rest of the stack is PERN. If you’re building a new service, you can take your pick. (Other roles are mostly just PERN stack.)
The company has been around for a while but with our new leadership we’ve really leaned into digitising an otherwise offline industry. It’s pretty fun.
The staff eng role: https://apply.checkatrade.com/vacancies/2473/staff-engineer-... (click around for other roles)

I read it as:
* Spend time empowering others to write production code * Reporting to line manager doesn’t mean not making decisions. * Spend time empowering others without having to always know the latest greatest new ways of solving a technical problem. * Meh, might be the circumstances * If this is “limited scope” in terms of qualified for a job, really depends on the company. If “limited scope” in terms of qualified to author this blog post, as has been observed by other commenters, this blog post is out of date and practices have changed since 2020. Pretty sure the practices 6.5 years before she wrote it were so vastly different that the 10-30 years of experience wouldn’t have been able to write a better or worse summary
The existence of her blog and willingness to talk about this stuff as a resource for the rest of us is pretty powerful evidence she’d bring value to a company.
But YMMV
At the very least this tells me if I continue to administer these kinds of technical interviews I will leave room for a back-and-forth with the interviewee and give an opportunity for an update.
But really great read nonetheless.
Don’t love that each diagram type typically has significantly different syntax.
Also don’t love (as mentioned by another commenter) the lack of control over layout—yea there are some advanced options for this but I find them obscure and difficult to configure.
I did create an internal tool that scans my Firestore data model and outputs an ER Diagram in mermaid. Works really nicely for that.
Good for them for evolving but… if a tree falls in a forest…
*I know there are lots of arguments against Electron vs native but clearly Eclipse of any generation faced similar concerns.
I’ve watched the first ~5min of Arrested Development seasons 1-3 probably 100 times at this point. Before that it was pirated copies of Simpsons or South Park episodes (years and years ago).
They all have corresponding YouTube channels (including many already listed in other comments)
