kirkdouglas··on New IPython release drops Python 2.7 support
vprof is also quite nice (its free) - https://github.com/nvdv/vprof
kirkdouglas··on Hiring without whiteboards
Because sometimes you are expected to write working code on whiteboard. Once interviewer was typing code I wrote on laptop and interrupting me on errors he had.
kirkdouglas··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
Facebook Messenger also has similar feature.
kirkdouglas··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
Time to move to Signal I guess. Seems like they will turn WhatsApp into bloated mess like Facebook Messenger currently is.
kirkdouglas··on Bash and Windows Subsystem for Linux Demo [video]
IIRC WSL is still in beta.
kirkdouglas··on Bash and Windows Subsystem for Linux Demo [video]
Looks great!

I won't switch from Mac anytime soon, but competition is always good. Can't wait to see how Apple will respond to latest Microsoft actions (WSL, Surface Book and Surface Studio).

kirkdouglas··on The multiprocessing module in Python
Python is compiled language.

kirkdouglas··on Testing Ads in Facebook Messenger
Hopefully they won't show ads in Messenger Lite.
kirkdouglas··on Dismissing Python Garbage Collection at Instagram
It does. They're profitable even with fairly small engineering team considering size of their user base.
kirkdouglas··on Dismissing Python Garbage Collection at Instagram
Why should they rewrite everything if it works for them?
kirkdouglas··on Telegram Desktop reaches version 1.0
Got any proof?
kirkdouglas··on Choose Firefox Now, Or Later You Won't Get A Choice (2014)
Also Firefox for Android has ad blocking.

Does anyone know dev team plans for version 3.7?
kirkdouglas··on The Django Project Debates User Tracking
You can easily replace template engine and ORM in Django when your project becomes large. I've personally made this several times.

kirkdouglas··on Images of New MacBook Pro with Magic Toolbar Leaked in MacOS Sierra 10.12.1
I guess it was Dell Studio.
kirkdouglas··on Apple Surveying MacBook Pro Users About Headphone Jack and Other Ports
MBP is most widely used pro audio laptop. Some people I know do simple mixing without plugging an external audio interface, just using built-in audio. It seems that Apple does not care about those people anymore.
kirkdouglas··on Fewer foreign entrepreneurs say they need the U.S.
> We do not pay H1B's less.

According to some people I know (they are all on H1B) typically H1B offer is 10-15% less than average at software big corp such as Microsoft and Google.

kirkdouglas··on Google+ Redesigned
I am sure Google has way more "unsexier" projects than G+.
kirkdouglas··on Looking ahead for WhatsApp
They still do not have monetization strategy and chats are not encrypted by default.
kirkdouglas··on Looking ahead for WhatsApp
I am not sure if Wire (another messaging app without clear monetization strategy) is better. We might end in the same situation in a few years.
kirkdouglas··on WhatsApp is going to share your phone number with Facebook
They removed paid subscription several months ago. It seems that they can make more money from matching WhatsApp and Facebook social graphs than from annual subscription.
kirkdouglas··on Looking ahead for WhatsApp
Time to use something else...
kirkdouglas··on Why People Should Learn Python
> What I miss is something like a good profiler to look at running code.

kirkdouglas··on Apple Said to Plan First Pro Laptop Overhaul in Years
It's great on smartphone, but useless on laptop. PC laptops have had fingerprint scanners since forever.
kirkdouglas··on Remove Firefox Hello from FF49
It seems that they will make Hello an add-on instead.
kirkdouglas··on Skype finalizes its move to the cloud, ignores the elephant in the room
I've just read the blog post and it seems that they will migrate Mac client to Electron soon. That sucks, since I like native Mac client.
