Looking into Kiva green loans to add value with some spare cash.
kirk21··on Brussels Rocked by Terrorist Attacks
Let's not exaggerate. This is not a third world country. A lot things work really well. You're right that immigration was not handled well but except that Belgium is pretty well managed.
kirk21··on Valeant Sold Some Drugs Twice
Must be painful for Ackman. He told that the stock price was close to what they had in mind as 'fairly valued' a few months ago...
kirk21··on UBlock vs. ABP: efficiency compared
UBlock breaks Youtube for me.
kirk21··on Jeff Bezos Lifts Veil on His Rocket Company, Blue Origin
Good to see that they will become more open about what they are doing. Great job Mr. Bezos.

kirk21··on CoeLux: Artificial Sunlight That’s Real Enough to Trick Your Camera and Brain
In this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ4TJ4-kkDw ) they talk about the usage for underground buildings. It could be for underground buildings what the lift is for high buildings (eg make it practical).

This was on Product Hunt a while ago: https://www.producthunt.com/tech/coelux

kirk21··on To Anyone Who Thinks They're Falling Behind in Life
Germans have a word for everything. :)
kirk21··on How to get rich in tech
Not so sure about getting that pension. Just take a look at the balance sheet of the governments in the EU.

kirk21··on Is there a Belgium? (1999)
Burning money (Agusta scandal) is my favorite one.
kirk21··on Google and ASUS Launch the $85 Chromebit, a Chrome OS Desktop on an HDMI Stick
That's so cool. Link to the product: http://goo.gl/T1km6m
kirk21··on Faraday is probably a front for the Apple Car
Reading 'The great race' (http://amzn.to/1M08aQK) atm. Didn't realize that so many people have been working on EV's during the past decades.
kirk21··on Hydrogen Cars Take to Britain's Roads
Reading this book about the history of EV's atm: The great race: the global quest for the car of the future (http://amzn.to/1kxnT0c).

China had great plans but has been quite slow to implement them since the provinces kept competing for funds. The role of Europe has been quite limited.

kirk21··on Mysterious electric car maker Faraday Future will spend $1B on a US factory
Reading this book about the history of EV's atm: The great race: the global quest for the car of the future (http://amzn.to/1kxnT0c). Ze Germans are really lagging behind so far.
kirk21··on What is it like to be owned by Warren Buffett?
His letters to shareholders are worth a read: http://amzn.to/1XTv2Xj
kirk21··on Cheap, clean stoves were supposed to save millions of lives – what happened?
Solar panels + batteries will have an enormous impact in a lot of countries. Once ppl buy a stove it is 'free' to use vs having to buy fuel every time (like pellets or ethanol). Will take 10-15 years but it is coming. Combine this with satellite internet and the living standard will radically increase.
kirk21··on China to take on Boeing, Airbus with new passenger jet
3 years of test flights. Am I the only one that finds this a long time to test an aircraft?
kirk21··on Uber Using Driver Phones as a Backup Datacenter
My phone is 2,5 years old and still works very well. Just has tons of bloatware (damn you HTC!). Might have to root the phone to uninstall that junk.
kirk21··on Uber Using Driver Phones as a Backup Datacenter
Off topics but the fact that Uber requires you to have the latest version of its app to book rides is ridiculous. Not everyone has the newest smartphone with tons of space to update apps.
kirk21··on Computer Scientists Wield Artificial Intelligence to Battle Tax Evasion
Maybe governments should stop being such a big spenders. The problem is that they never cut their costs and people seem to accept that (at least in Europe). What are these people (politicians) even doing the whole day? Most countries in Europe are super small and quite easy to manage.
kirk21··on MakerBot lays off 20% of its staff for the second time this year
Read an article a while ago where they did an analysis of the amount of printers a company needed to sell to break even (based on the parts cost). The conclusion was that there were just too many players in the field to ever make money (given the limited market atm).
kirk21··on Startup NASA
You can ask the same question about universities. They are also quite aggressive when it comes to patenting. Some even bully researchers that want to start their own company to sign licensing deals.
kirk21··on $0.55 per watt from SolarCity’s new solar panel
Really excited about this! In combination with Google's Project sunroof (https://www.google.com/get/sunroof#p=0), this could it make it more straightforward to install solarpanels.
kirk21··on Meet Model X
Really like the car. Just a tad concerned that the huge front window will break/shatter a lot if you hit some debree (or there is just a lot of junk on the roads where I live).
kirk21··on A New Face for Pebble
The technical info is quite hard to find. Had to click on 'buy' to get this: https://pebble.com/buy-pebble-time-round-smartwatch
kirk21··on One in Three Farms Is Using FarmLogs
Can you comment on how you gained traction? Seems to be a difficult market to tackle.
kirk21··on 'Hedgehog' Robots Hop, Tumble in Microgravity
Swarmbots (eg multiple robots that act as a swarm) are really cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJOubyiITsE
