killa_kyle··on Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal
This is dope.
killa_kyle··on A website to destroy all websites
I'm inspired to write more in 2026 and publish more of the things I just make for myself.
killa_kyle··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
A green card through marriage comes initially as a “conditional” / 2 year card, and then your husband would have to apply to remove the conditions (ie show he’s still married) after that two year period. If you get divorced before the green card is even processed it might not make it that far…
killa_kyle··on Show HN: A Japanese learning app focused on efficient vocab/grammar acquisition
Checking it out!
killa_kyle··on Show HN: I created a Chrome extension to help keep good posture while browsing
I think of the extension as a nice occasional reminder. I personally use it almost like "exercise". Turn it on for a while when I'm casually browsing, and it just helps build a habit of checking my posture. It's just one more tool I use on my health journey.
killa_kyle··on Show HN: I created a Chrome extension to help keep good posture while browsing
Thanks for taking a look. Currently the "posture detection" is only considering the Y-axis deviation of your right eye from a predetermined baseline value, but if there's enough interest it could be expanded to consider those specific positions. MoveNet, the pose detection model I'm using is capable of that.
killa_kyle··on Show HN: I created a Chrome extension to help keep good posture while browsing
Currently the extension relies on you to set the "good posture" baseline. You sit up to what you think is good posture, set the baseline, and then when you start slouching you'll move from the green to red.
killa_kyle··on Mental health impacts of a big tech job
I worked as a mover in NYC for years before becoming a software developer. Even though I make more money and have an easier life in many ways now, the mental fatigue of working a "knowledge" job is stressful in ways that outweigh most of my hardest physically and emotionally taxing days moving.
killa_kyle··on Show HN: 3D first person game rendered in CSS/HTML
nice! played until the ending so far.
killa_kyle··on Apple Watch Series 5
I handle this with an elastic phone waist band (google flip belt for an example). I don't think about the phone at all and do everything from the watch
killa_kyle··on From Dead Code to Company: The FullCalendar JavaScript Lib Turns 10
I love FullCalender! I've been using it for the past 4 years and have made a few scheduling apps with it.
killa_kyle··on Apple updates its iMac line
I have the 5k iMac with slow hard drive. I ended up getting a USB3 SSD and booting the system from that drive. Works great. much faster.
killa_kyle··on Google announces major expansion in New York City
I commuted for years from Queens and Brooklyn to Wall St. NYC is mostly flat, good to commute during the nicer months.
killa_kyle··on Show HN: My new SaaS side-project, after years of open source
I really like grapesjs, using it as a newsletter builder. Good luck on grapedrop.
killa_kyle··on Strava heatmap can be used to locate military bases
Strava already has an option to mask your starting location. It tracks it from your house, but the public data hides a certain radius around your start and finish locations
killa_kyle··on New York’s Subways Are Not Just Delayed, Some Trains Don’t Run at All
Only the Blue and Red Lines are 24 hours IIRC
killa_kyle··on Ask HN: Google Doc email virus?
This is burning through our office right now. emailing all clients! diablo!
killa_kyle··on In Brooklyn, Uber is now bigger than taxis
This is my primary reason for using Uber. Getting a taxi as a black person in NYC is tough. I usually have to wait on the curb for my (non-black) wife to flag one and then walk up to it once it stops for her.

With Uber/Lyft/Juno etc, there's at least some accountability for the driver. NYC's 311 process isn't enough to deter cabbies that just don't want to pick up black people.

killa_kyle··on Racial Fault Lines in Silicon Valley
color is any ethnicity that's not "white". In the U.S. it's mostly used to refer to black people, but Asians, Hispanics, etc are also considered "colored"
killa_kyle··on Show HN: Discover new music through an infinite suggestion graph (React/Redux)
pretty dope
killa_kyle··on Brain scans reveal how LSD affects consciousness
I think that's just being human.
killa_kyle··on Oculus Rift Exclusives on the HTC Vive – Proof of Concept
I'm actually about to sell it today and just be VR-less until my vive arrives.
killa_kyle··on Oculus Rift Exclusives on the HTC Vive – Proof of Concept
After a week with the Rift, I'm pretty bored honestly. Most of the wow factor of looking around has faded and I want my Vive so I can use my hands.
killa_kyle··on Oculus Rift Exclusives on the HTC Vive – Proof of Concept
I have a rift and a vive on order, the rift isn't comfortable at all with my glasses, where the Vive pre I've used is fine. It's easier to setup, but it also lacks controllers and the second sensor right now so it's not really a fair comparison.
killa_kyle··on Brain scans reveal how LSD affects consciousness
Can you expand on that?
killa_kyle··on TiltBrush by Google
The Vive's entire ecosystem is set up for moving around, using your hands, and really being 'VR' like we've all imagined. The oculus is your head as a camera in comparison.
killa_kyle··on Leap Motion: Orion [video]
Here's another video: GEOMETRIC - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLEEVGxu_k8
killa_kyle··on Leap Motion: Orion [video]
Glad to see they improved the software. Here's a video someone uploaded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhBaY1UMOJs
killa_kyle··on SoundCloud could be forced to close after $44m losses
-Also, I can't save a collection of favorite tracks in any meaningful way. I can favorite them, but they quickly get lost in the mobile UI if I do too much of that. I end up relying on global search every time I want to revisit a song or artist.

You can use playlists to save collections of tracks

killa_kyle··on Front-end Developer Handbook
About a year and a half ago I started piecing together what I needed to know to get a job as a Front end dev. Spent tons of time spinning my wheels. Looking at this now that I have my first job, it would have helped a lot as far as knowing what I had to learn and how it all relates.
