keewee7··on YaLM-100B: Pretrained language model with 100B parameters
Many people consider all of Israel to be an illegitimate Western colonial settler state in the Middle East.
keewee7··on Solend Votes to Control Whale Account in Bid to Avoid Liquidation 'Chaos'
Fixed the title
keewee7··on Writing one sentence per line
Months ago I noticed that I was doing this because of a (bad?) coding habit. It meant that my writing was recognizable across multiple reddit and discussion board accounts I don't want to be associated with each other. I stopped Writing One Sentence per Line after that.
keewee7··on The brain has a ‘low-power mode’ that blunts our senses
>My longest fast was 3 days and while I liked it, I function much better with food.

Three days is the longest people should go for if they haven't tried fasting before and don't have experience with gradual refeeding. Any longer than five days and you risk running into the refeeding syndrome.

keewee7··on Playstation confirms chain of 5 vulnerabilities on PS4/PS5
Maybe paying more than $20k through the HackerOne platform became a tax or regulation problem so they bank wired the rest.
keewee7··on Russia-backed network of Syria conspiracy theorists identified
Interesting article but I don't understand why the Guardian uses the term "conspiracy theorists" when it's actually sockpuppet accounts controlled by propagandists.
keewee7··on Russia Pulls Out All the Stops to Find Fresh Troops
Both your numbers are untrue.

Russia has more than 200,000 forces in Ukraine right now. Lets not pretend that DPR/LPR "separatists" are anything but Russian soldiers in unmarked uniforms. Remember the "separatists" involved in shooting down the Dutch plane in 2014 all turned out to be Russian soldiers.

The total number of combat ready soldiers in Russia's army is also far less than one million. More like 400k-500k.

keewee7··on Instagram Under Fire for Censoring Iran Protest Footage (Again)
TL;DR: Instagram and Twitter outsources their non-US moderation to the Canadian company Telus. The German branch of Telus has employed 400 to 500 Iranians. Some of them seem to be supporters of the Iranian regime and are now deleting content that is critical of the regime.

Personally I think it's concerning that Telus is hiring social media moderators from within Iran:

https://www.irantalent.com/en/company/telus/a5b5324f-46fe-4d...

Hiring 500 people of Iranian origin in Germany and giving them the keys to practically censor anything on social media is one thing.

However Telus seem to be recruiting their social media moderators from within Iran. They are literally begging the Iranian regime to infiltrate them.

keewee7··on Leaked Audio from TikTok Meetings – US User Data Repeatedly Accessed from China
The investigative part of Buzzfeed is a very reliable award-winning media.
keewee7··on C#: IEnumerable, yield return, and lazy evaluation
Whenever new C# language features are announced people outside the .Net world criticize the language for becoming too bloated.

They forget that 99% of C# developers use full fledged IDEs that gradually teach you new language features by suggesting useful refactorings.

The only important C# specific language features that takes effort to understand is LINQ that came out in 2007 and async/await that came out in 2012.

Any C# programmer who has been in coma since 2012 can get up and running with the more recent language features in just a few hours.

keewee7··on C#: IEnumerable, yield return, and lazy evaluation
Stack Overflow is a remarkable company. They bet on C# and ASP.NET MVC 1.0 in 2008 and they still host their own server infrastructure in their basement while being one of the 20 most visited sites in the world.
keewee7··on We will never have enough software developers (2020)
I remember reading Indians on r/DevOps who were surprised they were earning more than Germans in DevOps/Ops positions.
keewee7··on El Salvador's Bitcoin Buys Tracker
National "debt" is not debt at all and doesn't work like a person going to the bank and loaning money. There are plenty of countries with higher national debt / GDP ratio than the US and doing better than the US in terms of quality of life.
keewee7··on El Salvador's Bitcoin Buys Tracker
Oh it's another case of Libertarians deceptively portraying national "debt" as the same as personal debt.

There are plenty of countries with a higher national "debt" ratio that provide much better quality of life to the bottom 95% of the population than the US.

keewee7··on The Winamp Skin Museum is powered by a SQLite3 database with 1.2GB of metadata
I remember reading about a company that upgraded their production database from a JSON file to SQLite.

We really need this counter culture in software development that emphasis simplicity over the "Start with Kafka-on-k8s" madness.

keewee7··on US moves closer to recalling Tesla’s self-driving software
A future with high powered infrared lasers on top of every car will probably lead to a mysterious rise in people slowly losing their vision. Someone should do a study of the eyes and vision of people who work with LIDAR.

Why not instead use multiple radars (we already put 1-2 radars in cars with adaptive cruise control) to augment Tesla's vision based approach?

keewee7··on Sunsetting Atom
Really begs the question what Visual Studio Code did right and what Atom did wrong.
keewee7··on Blender 3.2
The EU and the Dutch government does not get enough credit for sponsoring Blender until very recently when corporate sponsorships took off.

In the US the commercial competitors would have sued the government for anti-competitive practices if they had sponsored Blender.

keewee7··on How I would start my next startup in Germany without a GmbH (2020)
As a Danish software engineer I'm puzzled by how much Germany has convinced the rest world that it is some kind of high-tech powerhouse. Outside the old West German legacy giants the country is stagnant.
keewee7··on CNN cutting back on over-hyping everything as “breaking news”
>The situation is so messed up that Chomsky and Kissinger are both publicly advising everyone to seek peace! When did you ever think you'd see those two on the same side of anything?

Kissinger was a hawkish warmonger in the 60s and 70s.

But since 1982 he has been a lobbyist and his lobbying firm, Kissinger Associates, is currently owned by the U.S.-Russia Business Council.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kissinger_Associates

As for Chomsky, he will compulsively oppose whatever the West does. Is he still opposed to the Western interventions against genocidal Serbian forces in the 90s?

keewee7··on CNN cutting back on over-hyping everything as “breaking news”
>They wouldn't be a source on, for example, what is happening in Ukraine at the moment

Unfortunately they pretend they are. Half of them make a living being contrarians so for the past few months they have been spewing pro-Russian lies and propaganda.

keewee7··on CNN cutting back on over-hyping everything as “breaking news”
You don't like the mainstream media so you have decided to follow contrarians and "alternative" media. Half of the people you have listed have reduced themselves to unhinged pro-Russian propagandists in the past four months. They went from claiming that Russia would not invade Ukraine to "Here is why Putin is the good guy!" grifters.
keewee7··on Captured Russian Weapons Are Packed with U.S. Microchips
There is not really any Russian or Chinese alternatives to modern high-end FPGAs from Xilinx and Intel/Altera. These FPGAs are important in modern radar and electronic warfare systems.

However I expected the Russians to be designing and manufacturing their own 32-bit MCUs by now. Surprised that they're not doing that.

keewee7··on Open Letter to Noam Chomsky (and Other Intellectuals) on the Russia-Ukraine War
>You may not like it and the referendum was obviously flawed by repeated Western polls since 2014 have shown annexation by Russia to be widely popular (~70% support). So much of this post talks about agency. What about Crimean agency?

This is a complete lie. Also the USSR settled Crimea with many Russians to change its demographics.

keewee7··on U.S. interest rates have soared everywhere but savings accounts
>So if one puts their money into assets, those are decreasing in price due to the fed

Unless you are a day trader (or r/WallStreetBets trader) this should not be a long-term concern.

>Time in the market beats timing the market.

I have my assets in an S&P500 ETF and some Danish funds and stocks. Owning a good home in a first-world country is also a good long-term investment.

keewee7··on Americans’ views on the war reveal a striking generational divide
You deliberately omitted the part saying "OHCHR believes that the actual figures are considerably higher".

Most of the civilian deaths are still under rubles or in mass graves like Bucha. Many of them are also in areas still controlled by Russia.

keewee7··on Americans’ views on the war reveal a striking generational divide
>Zelensky censoring media outlets favorable to opposition parties.

No different than what Britain did to pro-German media and parties during WW2.

keewee7··on Real World Recommendation System
TikTok seem to be learning from what the user is actually watching and for how long and not just the user's "Like"/"Not Interested In" actions. However it still seem to learn from the "Not Interested In" action more than any other platform.
keewee7··on Finland and Sweden set to join NATO as soon as summer
They are keeping it by burning through their foreign reserves.
keewee7··on Finland and Sweden set to join NATO as soon as summer
>Ukraine resists neutrality and has its country destroyed and is eventually forced to agree to it anyway (what is happening now)

What is happening now is the Russian economy collapsing and thousands of Russian soldiers returning home in body bags in just the past few weeks. The same things that caused the fall of the Soviet Union.
