kdot··on Computer Reset, Dallas
Yes loved that sense of community.
kdot··on Computer Reset, Dallas
Brings back memories of the computer show underneath the highway in Dallas.
kdot··on Flutter 3.47
I’m currently using it for small projects (under 100 users each), it’s definitely a niche choice, but it’s super easy to hand-roll from scratch. I’ve been running an app stack that’s pure dart, top to bottom, and it’s great being able to share code between my flutter app, web app, and backend.
kdot··on Flutter 3.47
I love this framework! It offers all the benefits of Dart and the Flutter widget paradigm on the web, while still providing access to the DOM. I'm using Jaspr for all of my marketing sites. It's beautiful, and I can ship in minutes.
kdot··on I aggregated 28 US Government auction sites into one search
Missed the District of Columbia
kdot··on Ask HN: How to store and share passwords in a company?
It's Okta's key feature... Once a user logs in and reaches their 'Apps Dashboard,' they can click on any SaaS app to open it in an already authenticated session without needing to know the passwords. This makes it possible for multiple users to access a single license.
kdot··on Ask HN: Why is nobody manufacturing low tech electric cars in 2024?

kdot··on How Meta trains large language models at scale
How will Meta leverage LLMs at scale to drive revenue? It's not clear.
kdot··on Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad, and Mac
I see the goal as a setup to pit LLM providers against each other to pay 10B a year to be the 2nd tap default.
kdot··on Time for TikTok to cut its ties to China
How long until.......

"TikTok in talks to acquire steak in TruthSocial."

kdot··on Americans are spending the biggest share of their income on food in 3 decades
It's somewhat understandable considering the rising minimum wages for restaurant staff and the additional fees restaurants impose for employee benefits, which have been implemented in several major cities.
kdot··on Reddit user content being sold to AI company in $60M/year deal
Interesting when you consider that <search term> reddit is the a top 5 autocomplete on google search.
kdot··on Tucker Carlson bringing show to Twitter
Twitter seems ill-suited for long-form video content. It's optimized more for bite-sized interactions, not prolonged viewing.

The lagging, buffering, and poor video resolution reflect this. Platforms like YouTube or Vimeo have honed their infrastructure for stable, high-quality video streaming and created an interface that promotes sustained engagement.

For Twitter to compete in this space, it needs to fundamentally rethink its approach to video content, from infrastructure and compression algorithms to user interface design and balancing social interaction with content consumption.

kdot··on Build your own private WireGuard VPN with PiVPN
Would a solution that uses IKEv2.
kdot··on Google releases Bard to a limited number of users in the US and UK
google3 should be enough of a data set to train on?
kdot··on Ways to get around ChatGPT's safeguards
The one safeguard I've yet to get around is the required phone number to try this thing.
kdot··on Google, please do something with your ads and SEO-spam
They had a personal block list at one point... but removed it.
kdot··on Show HN: Browser extension that spoofs your location data to match your VPN
Does geolocation need to be spoofed if I'm on a VPN? Is't geolocation detected using IP address?
kdot··on Apple Cash
You still have to "sign up" for Apple Cash though, which is a process that involves uploading your government identification.
kdot··on Apple Cash
If US we use Zelle, it's a for profit company owned by the large US banks. If your bank supports Zelle, you can send money instantly.
kdot··on If Google sucks then why is everyone still using it?
A domain block list would solve most of the search quality and spam problems, I don't understand why Google removed it.
kdot··on Why trucking can’t deliver the goods
I'm not sure I believe this article, if you are a truck driver an aren't making $2,500 per week in todays market you are not paying attention. Truck drivers with 2 years of experience are getting 10k+ sign on bonuses now. And if you own your own truck your walking away with 7k - 10k+ per week, per mile rates are the highest they've been in years.
kdot··on Show HN: I made an iOS app recording RGBD videos and a web app playing them
This definitely gives off iGoggle vibes, would love to experience this with an A/R headset.
kdot··on Ask HN: What are these low quality “code snippet” sites?
When they removed the domain blacklist feature search went down hill fast.

kdot··on Ask HN: Moving from US to Canada – How?
Try https://movnorth.com
kdot··on Android Studio 4.0
Dart, and Flutter plugin aren't supported.
kdot··on Ask HN: Is there still a place for native desktop apps?
Flutter for desktop solves this.
kdot··on SwiftUI Defaults Considered Harmful
Interesting how most of his points are exactly how Flutter is implemented. For example the trailing commas, and no assumed defaults.
kdot··on What Exactly is Docker?
Can anyone speak to why deploying your application as a container is more expensive than deploying on an VM instance?
kdot··on iOS 13's Music App Sucks
I hate that when I select a song from an album, all of the songs are queued up. Even though I just want to listen to a single track.

I also really dislike iTunes on Mac, it's like they stripped out all of the usability.
