kderbyma··on Bat Feces Used to Fertilize Cannabis Is Linked to 2 Deaths
Hmmm....nope. Meth heads and stimulant junkies end up fried......unable to function until they get back to baseline and it takes month+ for every month of recreational use to return to baseline......

add in actual chronic usage of amphetamines and cocaine and you end up with the attention span of a mouse and are less functional after you re-up than you were before you ever started....

the impact is so stark from amphetamines and stimulants it's fascinating that until you clean yourself up...you won't see it

kderbyma··on Amazon APIs are the worst. No comparison. *Rant
I have to disagree. We work with Google services and Amazon - we use Google for our cloud services. They are league above amazon in every single way.

The only thing amazon has managed to ever get right is Routing (Route 53), Gateways, and pure AWS only stuff (like containers).

Once you try to incorporate any of their other services (Ads, Seller Central, Vendors, etc.) you see how bad it is.

Nothing works - yet you are still required to use AWS credentials for one purpose (IAM).

LWA is a separate thing from IAM - Oauth should be easy - everyone has figured it out, but Amazon's is so terrible, its not even funny.

---

I challenge you to try setting up the SP-API one day. You will see the pain.

kderbyma··on Artificial intelligence is losing hype
Honestly, the only thing I have found somewhat useful with LLMs is to get smarter tab complete and to occasionally fill out small methods in classes, and finally writing unit tests and adding documentation. it saves me a little time on mostly improving test coverage and readability. But until I give it some examples it usually hallucinates even method names within the class that are very similar but slightly different and some of the time saved is lost by having to fix it's mistakes. I would say it's improving my LoC output by maybe 5-15% max, but the tab complete is nice when writing code.
kderbyma··on I spent 2 years building my own game engine (Rust, WASM, WebGPU)
awesome work! I have been trying to build something similar and originally built a basic prototype in pure JS and then converted to a react library but it became apparent that due to the extra performance cycles that it needs to be rewritten into wasm for the performance I want. I had a similar idea, community driven content and interchangeable packages for games and protocol specs around a common format that allows for scripting and assets to be simply loaded and changed much like a cartridge. glad to see others working on a similar idea! good luck!
kderbyma··on Deals with the devil aren't what they used to be
Bob Dylan. Said he sold his soul to the Devil and promised to play til the end of his days
kderbyma··on Deals with the devil aren't what they used to be
it's selling your soul to the devil for something you desire
kderbyma··on If we want a shift to walking, we need to prioritize dignity
Garden Cities.... concept is about 100 years old, maybe stop electing people who haven't even walked their constituency....
kderbyma··on Google Chrome has an API accesible only from *.google.com
That was one reason I don't use Chrome. They clearly do special stuff on their sites. And spyware is guaranteed with chrome
kderbyma··on The Right Kind of Stubborn
Context or domain shifting is how I tend to think of that skill and for me it is very visceral and spatial. the ability to shift between different contexts or domains and then much like walking into a new room, or getting off a plane in a new country or taking a staircase to a new level, you are exposed to new routes and options but you old ones leave you and to leave the area is to once again change contexts and return.
kderbyma··on Ants can carry out life-saving amputations on injured nest mates, study shows
Yeah if the person was a rapist or murderer or criminal and it's my cat....yeah. The murderer dies and I save my cat..........??? are you not like that?
kderbyma··on My Encounter with the Fantasy-Industrial Complex
Written in the Atlantic?..not really making your case sound any better imo. The Atlantic is cover for either intelligence or special interest groups.......
kderbyma··on $20k MRR in one month, Stripe destroyed everything on 1 second
Tbf. I don't think it's stripe....it's their issuing bank or Clearing bank. They need to use a bank and the banks are regulated with banking codes that determine the risk level. if they misrepresented the code it's a problem for stripe because they get dinged by their bank for being untrustworthy and if the codes are high risk ...it's high risk...
kderbyma··on So, how do you get music for your self-hosted server?
rip it from CDs to FLAC, synching it to my media server and then clean up the local once I confirm and then play it through ultrasonic
kderbyma··on Screw it, I'll host it myself
I host most of my stuff myself. the only thing I need to setup is a backup and it's perfect. It's free (minus internet) and it runs my movies, music, streaming, files, previously emails, emulators, and it's smaller than my wifi router. boots and starts automatically and can be remotely managed (though I tend to keep it behind a switch that blocks remote admin)
kderbyma··on Walmart Just Announced a Brand-New Way to Track Customers, & It All Starts Today
Well they started installing cameras on a lot of shelfs a couple years back and I am sure it's been for exactly this purpose.
kderbyma··on FBI raids Atlanta corporate landlord in probe of rental market price fixing
Most of Canada is being actively price fixed by a handful of large real state companies that have purchased huge patches of housing and tend to do the minimum to maintain or improve and act more like litigious predators who price fix and remove all ownership from the experience
kderbyma··on To the brain, reading computer code is not the same as reading language (2020)
Programming is more spatial than linguistic. It requires temporal understanding in order to formulate, and usually data 'structures' are based around physically laying data out.

kderbyma··on Cannabis use linked to epigenetic changes, study reveals
Or perhaps, they have a sense of humour. Sorry, not sure how to teach you to have one though. I think humour is a type of intelligence that requires recognizing the hidden meaning...like 'lols' implies for textual representation of laughter...since it doesn't translate.

or perhaps you realised that /s

kderbyma··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
I think most of our problems are due to digital marketing....

it's not good for stuff.....something's....but it's not a panacea.... Meta and Google and Tiktok all claim otherwise.....but the cultural effects show.

advertising in the modern age is not good .....

it's not sticky.....

it's vapid and forgotten faster than the fly you accidentally swallowed at some point in your life...

kderbyma··on Book people think they know why 9-year-olds stop reading for fun
Sounds like committees....animes tend to have a visionary person who writes the core story and characters.....

Hollywood is filled with board rooms of groups who are all incentivized in a way to 'get buy in' through concessions.... the first concession is the art...the vision....

then the talent....

then it's all down hill from there

kderbyma··on Can turning office towers into apartments save downtowns?
It's more than just a density problem. People need to be locally consistent.

They need a place that caters to their culture(including the town or city itself - micro culture) - they need a place to hang out with people of like mind, they need hobbies and places to go, they need restaurants, events, parks, quiet places, loud and busy places, areas to connect with nature, areas to focus on business or meet fellow enthusiasts. It's not a numbers game .... it's human emotions and reality.

we need hospitals and daycares and public pools, arcades, shops, zoos, heritage sites, pop ups, concerts, etc ...

it's more than just walls + plumbing and electrical codes.....

kderbyma··on We need to rewild the internet
"The story of German scientific forestry transmits a timeless truth: When we simplify complex systems, we destroy them, and the devastating consequences sometimes aren’t obvious until it’s too late."

I really agree. so often simplification alone is not enough. it should be a guiding principle, but not ignorant of the necessary complexity

kderbyma··on A secret code may have been hiding in Beethoven's manuscripts

kderbyma··on Spotify demonetizes all tracks under 1k streams
yup. their API is a joke and they neutered it for cost savings....not a sign that their ads are successful.
kderbyma··on The "Reitoff principle": Why you should add "nothing" to your work-life schedule
I mean this principle is literally the Sabbath....it's very very old concept.
kderbyma··on Law enforcement doesn't want to be "customer service" reps for Meta any more
I'll wait.
kderbyma··on Apple to wind down electric car effort after decadelong odyssey
you would need to buy the iPad separately and could use the air Dash if you are not willing to fork over the cash, and then you unlock it with your face and wave frantically to get the operation.
kderbyma··on I Spent a Week with Gemini Pro 1.5–It's Fantastic
Google Made it?....Nah...I'll wait. They can't even do search anymore....unless I'm looking for ads...haha
kderbyma··on I Spent a Week with Gemini Pro 1.5–It's Fantastic
I think you highlighted the ACTUAL problem....you are worried that Google will destroy your account for harmless tests.....that is plain wrong and should be illegal if somehow it isn't....
