karim79··on Mike Tomlin spent 12 years building a Minecraft city
This is interesting to any sane person. What is the point of your comment?
karim79··on With most information hidden, the game Stratego had stumped AI until now
I can relate. I'm in the top percentile on stack overflow (now killed by AI). My only goal was to be "good" in the way you described.
karim79··on With most information hidden, the game Stratego had stumped AI until now
Question: I need to play this again but there are many different versions. It's impossible to decide which one to get. Which is the best one to purchase?
karim79··on With most information hidden, the game Stratego had stumped AI until now
Impressive. Keep at it. I hope you'll find a Eureka moment. I also hope they're not just cheating using AI.
karim79··on With most information hidden, the game Stratego had stumped AI until now
> including my dad who was much better than me at chess.

My experience as well unfortunately. No matter how many books on chess I read, no matter how many games I played against Battle Chess to try to get better, he always won.

karim79··on What a Massive New 728-Foot-Wide Crater Means for Future Moon Bases
It took me some time to dig this up. Here you go and enjoy:

Edit: Check out John Wiff

Also, this is how I imagine people will be spending their time on the moon.

karim79··on What a Massive New 728-Foot-Wide Crater Means for Future Moon Bases
Does anyone really want to live on the moon? I mean it's a cool and dreamy idea but would you actually do it?
karim79··on "Apple engineer" builds GitHub AI torture chamber to inflict "pain" on models
It's not about the models feeling pain or suffering or such, it's about the sickos who want to do this for whatever reason. That's what I find disturbing.
karim79··on "Apple engineer" builds GitHub AI torture chamber to inflict "pain" on models
Sadism for the sake of science, be it imaginary and on a software system? Get a life.
karim79··on "Apple engineer" builds GitHub AI torture chamber to inflict "pain" on models
I'm not one who thinks that AI has feelings or deserves rights. I just think that torture is bad and this is objectively crude and useless, I don't think it adds anything positive to society.
karim79··on "Apple engineer" builds GitHub AI torture chamber to inflict "pain" on models
What grosses me out is the very idea of torturing anything at all. Even the word "torture" itself. I'm not sure what this is for or how it helps at all. This crap belongs in the gutter.

karim79··on McDonald's Is Using AI to Dynamically Price Its Burgers
> McDonald's is spending $8 billion to figure out why they can't sell enough food.

If one can call it food.

karim79··on We’re forgetting what darkness feels like
Story time! I used to live in Bahrain, which is an archipelago. When I was a kid my family and friends took a boat out to Umm Jaleed Island (nicknamed Bird Poop Island) for the night. Zero light pollution, we had tents but chose to stare up at the stars and get pinched by crabs, enjoying the quiet.
karim79··on Show HN: Real-time Solar System with 526k asteroids and all tracked satellites
Beautiful site. I love how tranquil the scene becomes when satellites and spacecraft is unchecked. Thanks for that SpaceX (and others).
karim79··on Promising discoveries about the potential for life on one of Saturn’s icy moons
I love the idea of a probe collecting a gush of water from this moon. I'm equally a fan of another probe going to Europa, drilling through the ice, and launching a 4k video-recording underwater drone to reveal a crazy underwater ecosystem like in the game Subnautica.
karim79··on 'That's so AI ' What gen Alpha's biggest insult tells us
Hilarious piece. I just love it. Feels a bit like Monty Python in a good way.
karim79··on 2DWillNeverDie
For whatever reason I'm getting strong Commander Keen vibes here.
karim79··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
For the love of God, nobody wants to invade the United Kingdom. What is this for?
karim79··on Bulk Orders Surge at Used Bookstores in Japan; 50 Tons Sent to U.S.
Give them away. Put them on the street for people to pick up. Donate them to anyone. I can't tell if you're being serious or if your comment is sarcasm. I'm leaning toward the latter.
karim79··on Japanese used bookstores see 5x sales surge as books are being bought by the ton
Yeah. It somehow keeps the competitors at bay, apparently, from previous discussions about AI companies who burn books.

Can we really trust these AI companies when they're basically assimilating human art and culture and everything, only to go on and destroy the evidence?

karim79··on Japanese used bookstores see 5x sales surge as books are being bought by the ton
Buy as many books as you want but please don't burn after scanning.
karim79··on Fertility rate dropped over 50% within 10 years in Argentina
Damn I need to watch that again. Was a great film.
karim79··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
I stopped smoking when my girlfriend got cancer and I switched to vaping. That worked for a year and a half, then my vape fell into mud and I bought a pack of smokes because I had no quick solution and started smoking again.

I'm working on going back to the vape.

karim79··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
"The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards — and even then I have my doubts".

Old but gold stuff from Gene Spafford

karim79··on Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived
Goddamn this brought me back to my childhood with FoxPro books on my dad's bookshelf when I was a child. Thanks for that, necromancer.
karim79··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
1. Spend less tax money on stupid wars.

2. Use some of it for good science even if you don't want to improve welfare and healthcare.

3. Profit and prosper!

karim79··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
Right. It's much better to spend tax dollars on useless wars and furthering the Zionist and imperialist causes, than spending said tax dollars on doing actual, real, valuable science. Which maybe, just maybe, answers some fundamental questions which we have sought the answer to for eons beyond remembrance.

So bloody frustrating and completely unsurprising.

karim79··on Apple iPhone 18 Pro Camera test
English be like this man. It's everything all-in-one. Fascinating language I tells you. Much like all other languages which be fascinating.
karim79··on Brood War Bench
Your minds will be blown when you realize just how much StarCraft is ingrained into South Korean culture. They literally had (or have) dedicated TV channels just for StarCraft.

Brood War was the first video game to be broadcast on TV in Korea. I'm pretty sure it's still going.
