I thought it started in Snapchat, where they were just filters at first, but then the AR stuff started getting added and you’d access them the same way you would the plain filters. The name just stuck due to people not caring to call them something else. What else would they be called? Lenses, maybe?
From experience playing Veloren, it’s one of the least buggy alphas I’ve ever played, and it runs incredibly smoothly. Not sure if that can be attributed to language choice, but I thought it was pretty remarkable when trying it out.
There’s another in-between case, where the people who decided to make garbage truck fleet management software noticed that there was a massive inefficiency firsthand, and decided to fix it. I imagine this is a great avenue for people who have both programming knowledge and experience in a separate domain.
Regarding the point about cheap and healthy fast food, wouldn’t it be awesome to have the convenience of something like that? No need to be so dismissive.
I use tmux a lot at work because it allows me to do multiple tasks at once over ssh. Also, the synchronize-panes function is incredible for configuring multiple servers identically at the same time, which is a task I perform on a weekly basis. And of course, the ability to reconnect to a session is excellent as well.
I think this opinion is short sighted, because it assumes that we can trust Youtube (or other governing body) to rightfully and honestly decide which content is worth deplatforming. Isn't this idea central to the concept of freedom of speech?
I’ll have to try my hand at making a mono space version of this fine some time. I like the idea of hyper legibility and I’d be curious to compare it against the font I normally use, which is Overpass Mono.
This comment reminds me of one of the ones in the thread a few days ago about Google clearing out trashed items. It was something like “this stinks because I always store my most important documents in the trash”, except this one seems to be less sarcastic :)
I remember reading an article some time ago about thr experiences of a developer who I believe was working on the most recent Mortal Kombat game. They talked about needing to watch lots of gore and similar content for the games cinematics, and about how it started to affect their mood. I don’t think I’d be able to work a job like that for very long.
Have to agree with this. It’s part of why I stopped going on Reddit so much, because seeing that kind of attitude was affecting how I viewed things. I mean, imagine if you were talking face to face with someone and they responded with that amount of negativity. It’d kill the conversation and the mood.
Back in 2018 I was upgrading my computer, and I wanted an all-AMD system, so I picked up a 2700X and a Vega 64. I’m really happy with the 2700X, but I returned the Vega because the Linux drivers (open source and proprietary) were shoddy for separate reasons. I picked up a 1080ti instead and never had a problem.
