Non-tech people I talk to hate ads too. Boomers have been talking about how facebook is all ads now too.
justaman··on Sex is going out of fashion?
Apps that introduce scarcity are the best at matching. Bumble and Hinge only let you "heart" three people a day(unless you pay). Certainly as a woman there is a sense of scarcity in cold approaching. An attractive woman may have one man flirt with her and ask her on a date once per day.

justaman··on What Dinner Will Look Like in the Next 100 Years, According to Scientists
No thanks. If this becomes a reality(unlikely) and I live that long, I'll be moving somewhere far from where its happening. I currently in a small community. We get our eggs and ground beef from a local family farm.

Most of the articles like these are written by people entirely out of touch with life outside of a city. This author has lived in NY city their entire life.

Farming and agriculture are entirely sustainable practices even with climate change looming. It is only the methods we use that need to change. Overuse of fertilizers and pesticides, over-farming/tilling, and stupid crop rotations are to blame. The best way to get an insect resistant form of corn? Breed corn. Don't modify its genetics in a lab with the end goal of finding a strain that requires a petrochemical bath to survive.

Mark uses the natural landscape and small man made ponds and swales to move water throughout the farm.

In hindsight, this may have been the better video to post.

justaman··on Agroforestry and Permaculture offer a solution to rising fertilizer/water costs
Mark Shepard uses no fertilizer beyond the animal droppings produced on his farm as the animals eat the low hanging or fallen fruit.
justaman··on Agroforestry and Permaculture offer a solution to rising fertilizer/water costs
"New Forest Farm is a planned conversion of a typical row-crops grain farm into a commercial-scale, perennial agricultural ecosystem using oak savanna, successional brushland and eastern woodlands as the ecological models. Trees, shrubs, vines, canes, perennial plants and fungi are planted in association with one another to produce food (for humans and animals), fuel, medicines, and beauty. Hazelnuts, chestnuts, walnuts and various fruits are the primary woody crops. The farm is entirely solar and wind powered and farm equipment is capable of being powered with locally produced biofuels." - https://www.forestag.com/pages/mark-shepard

2%. But how much of that 2% has been in the last 5 years? I heard it was up to 1/3rd of all properties sold.
justaman··on The chicken you are eating has increased 364% in size over the last 50 years
They waddle when walking now. Another 50 years and chickens will be entirely immobile. Thats good news for Tyson since a bird that gets no exercise will consume less energy and need less food.
justaman··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
I think bringing back the adventurous side of the internet is important. Back in the day if you wanted to find information about a specific topic you had to search(not google search) for it. In doing so, you weren't inundated with more and more information that starts relevant, but quickly devolves into whats trending to drive DAUs and add clicks.
justaman··on An argument for a return to Web 1.0
I just want a web where everyone has their own space. Not renting a space from Facebook, Google, or XYZ. A space that can be ad free. One where people can choose what data is released and how; where deny all is default for any information gathering.

If we want to socialize with someone, couldn't we just go to that person instead of a social media broker?

The tech of web 1.0 is limiting and less approachable for the average person. There is no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water.

We went down the rabbit hole of web 2.0 and it doesn't look like we will come back out. Web 3.0 feels dystopian.

justaman··on Soybean oil affects hypothalamus, causes genetic changes in mice: study (2020)
Eat fresh, local, natural. Butter, simple olive oil, animal fats.

Food trends are trends because they are profitable. The people telling you its healthy are those selling it to you.

The US must also move away from soy beans and corn syrup.

justaman··on What to do if a cop tries to scan your face during a traffic stop
Hasn't crime in the US trended downward for the last 50+ years? There is no justification for this. It will incite distrust in an already hated police force. This is an authoritarian regime's wet dream. Such a thing is another brick in a wall people face to get a bullet in their head. Take this brick and throw it threw a window.
justaman··on Investors bought a record share of U.S. homes in 2021
Then, 10 years on a revolution. This is the type of thing that will trigger massive civil unrest.
justaman··on Microsoft to Acquire Activision Blizzard
Value skyrocketed, but IP was demolished. Warcraft and Starcraft are two of the most popular game franchises ever. Today, nobody cares about the story of these games anymore. Popular characters have been written into a wall or killed off in an unsatisfying way. The overall story is a tangled mess of retcons, 1000 IQ BBEG, and directionless plot lines. While Activision made record profits, they did it at the cost of player numbers. Every new character is shallow, uninspired, quickly killed off, or never used again after their initial use(Bwonsamdi, Rexar, many more). By failing to appease players with the story, and putting systems designers in charge of gameplay, they have been draining the value of their IP for the last 10 years.

For games to be successful today, they need popularity. Twitch streamers need to play it. Youtubers need to make "how-tos", and word of mouth is king. Activision drove the final nail in their coffin with the PR nightmare this year. No amount of necromancy (Warcraft Reforged, Classic WoW, Diablo 2) can save the company long term.

justaman··on University of Florida bars professors from testifying in a voting rights case
Should the region/counties that have a smaller population but different work forces or geographical makeup not have representation? Population alone cannot dictate the house of representatives.

They have literally redefined "anti-vaxxer" in a similar way to how "racism" was redefined. Its being used as a tool for control.
justaman··on Disinformation-for-hire in Kenya
Without this activism, they could not compete with the big players in tech. At its essence, this activism is advocating for an alternative to the privacy unfriendly or in this case disinformation that is largely driven by "rage-clicks". It creates a conversation about the future of the information age outside of the business centric motive actions shown by say google.
