juskrey··on Is Jev Confident?
Oh that's interesting. Probability folds. This invites exploits, among other things.
juskrey··on Is Jev Confident?
We reverse engineered and analyzed confidence formulas for Jev's Choice and Score. The latter was not obvious at all. In our opinion, neither is confidence.

juskrey··on As a US Navy fighter pilot, I witnessed unidentified anomalous phenomena
Mostly "Someone did it on purpose". Usually person they don't like, or rival department, or government, overall situation ranging from light computer illiteracy to full blown X-Files scenario.
juskrey··on As a US Navy fighter pilot, I witnessed unidentified anomalous phenomena
Throughout my already 20 year IT career, I can't even count how many times I've come across extremely paranoid explanations, often in the verge of insanity, of regular computer behavior like basic non obvious algos or glitches. From people otherwise normal. What is interesting, almost never I could change person's mind, once toxic explanation is in.

Recently, with all that internet marketing and real surveillance tech, this worsened a lot. Some humans are just wired differently.

juskrey··on Accounting for Developers, Part II
The database will be always using utc, but according periods will be always local. Hence was my question, why emphasize this that is?
juskrey··on Accounting for Developers, Part II
On UTC: why so, as accounting periods are happening in local time

juskrey··on Dentistry is less scientific and more gratuitous than people think (2019)
Basically you go to several dentists and chose the conservative one - it is not that hard. Yeah, most of them are in so so neighbouhoods and have outdated equipment, but you wanted to have less intervention in any case, right?
juskrey··on Could the greatest works of literature be undiscovered?
Greatest works of literature are great now because they survived long enough for some reason. The longer the better. So undiscovered - yes, great - no.
juskrey··on Is everything falling apart?
Why no one says it is transparency which is increasing, not things falling apart
juskrey··on U.S. forgives 40k student loans
How about giving back money to people who paid back their loans, possibly going through even greater difficulties to do that.
juskrey··on I Heart Microscopes
I've bought it two times: when it was $150 and $200. Both times consistently received very high quality device.

juskrey··on Nearly 75% of US counties lost population last year as deaths outnumbered births
People are quick suggesting it is Orthodox, but in reality non-religious women in Israel have a fertility rate of 2.5, and overall contribution mounts over time as generations pass.
juskrey··on Belgian scientific base in Antarctica engulfed by Covid despite strict measures
After years of self-observations I have a petty theory that, in addition to outside infections, we always have a zoo of cold viruses inside, and different factors trigger them from time to time. I am quite surprised this is never discussed and mentioned by scientific community. BTW for some other viruses this is well documented and acknowledged, but with cold/flu/covid we seem to suffer worldwide scientific amnesia.
juskrey··on The Invention of “Xenophobia”
Scale matters. You welcome a stranger first and ask questions second, but do the reverse with a mob.

Unfortunately most modern laws and policies do it in reverse.

juskrey··on How We Proved the Eth2 Deposit Contract Is Free of Runtime Errors

juskrey··on The mermaid is taking over Google search in Norway
Simply, Google have lost the battle against SEO long ago, and, being in a trap of own cash flow, can't do anything radical to change that.
juskrey··on Mighty MK-52: The Spaceworthy Soviet-era Calculator
I remember it having terrible problems with data storage. Even scrolling through a program several times was corrupting the memory
juskrey··on John McAfee found dead in Spanish jail after court approves extradition to US
One does not come to a new country out of the blue and become a drug dealer boss
juskrey··on Cargo Is Piling Up Everywhere, and It's Making Inflation Worse
So it is not inflation, it is a congestion, a squeeze. When things settle, we'll see lots of supply w/o demand (due to economic players overreacting and new players trying to take advantage) and price drop
juskrey··on In Mexico, cartels are hunting down police at their homes
Religious claims and cited sources of any group generally worth nothing, we only care about down the earthly deeds and imposed policies when/if in power.

Not every religion is a religion, that is.

juskrey··on In Mexico, cartels are hunting down police at their homes
wahabis and salafists are sets with large intersection, but for practical purposes they are the same.
juskrey··on In Mexico, cartels are hunting down police at their homes
More thoughtful commenters (e.g. Taleb) actually noticed early that ISIS and wahhabism in general is a deeply rooted and quite old political movement, not all-of-a-sudden religious cult and madness.

Partly because of this conflation the whole narrative (heavily sponsored by oil money of course) have kept blind Western elites for very long time, especially in Europe, where they only start to understand that worship places with heavy foreign aid inflow are not necessarily harmless community centers, and "religious liberties" must have strict bounds to be classified as so.
