Wait - so you are saying that information on the public internet isn’t public? Man, I wish people would remember the origin of the web and the entire reason it exists. If you don’t want information public, protect it - otherwise, I say it’s fair game.

Not at all. The hypocrisy is that the same folks who cheered the Supreme Court cake ruling are now wanting AWS to bake them a cake.

ALPR is not manual or sustained. It's a one-time photo of a vehicle at a specific location & time.

The DPPA [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver%27s_Privacy_Protection_...] already restricts who has the ability to convert from plate to actual personal information.

Digital Recognition Network | Software Engineer | Ft Worth, REMOTE | REMOTE

Hello, reader of this job posting! Because you actually clicked into this, we’re going to assume you're a solid PHP developer, experienced with both the old (PEAR, Smarty, pre-OOP, pre-MVC) and the new (Laravel/Symfony, composer, PSR, etc).

Great! Now let’s talk about some of those as they relate to this position.

1. Big Data – DRN is the world leader in license plate recognition and currently has more than 5 billion (with a B) rows of license plate and geospatial data.

2. PHP – We love PHP. We know it has a bad reputation due to a long history of ugliness – and trust us when we say we have experienced it first-hand. However, it has matured greatly over the past few years and it has allowed us to rapidly prototype, develop, and deploy some amazing applications. We love Laravel and composer, and we have PHP 7 in production.

3. SQL – Yeah, it’s weird to have PHP connect to SQL Server. And as a PHP developer, you may not have the strongest grasp on SQL Server and all of its idiosyncrasies. But we’re available to help walk you through it.

4. Linux – Even though we run SQL server, our web servers are fully Ubuntu.

5. Remote – Let’s dispel with the myth that remote developers can kick their feet back and play Xbox. If you’ve spent any time working remotely, you know the challenges and determination it takes to make it work. We work hard from 8 to 5 and want a developer that will do the same without needless distractions.

6. Git – We do everything in git and have some great deployment workflows built around it.

7. Security – Stop here if you have no idea what the OWASP Top 10 is. If you aren’t familiar with how to secure your code against SQL injection, XSS, and CSRF, then we can’t bring you aboard.

What is DRN? Here’s a little spiel about us from our marketing department:

"DRN is the dominant provider of license plate recognition and vehicle location data to the automotive finance industry. DRN’s data is responsible for the recovery of more than 550,000 vehicles valued at $4 billion. With its position firmly established in the automotive finance market, DRN is now expanding into other markets including insurance, enterprise/government, and digital marketing industries."

Learn more about us at drndata.com.

If you’re interested, send us a link to your Github or Bitbucket profile along with your resume or equivalent. We can’t wait to talk to you!

Must be eligible to work in the U.S

jumby··on Remote Working – 3 Year Retrospective
edited my profile :)
jumby··on Remote Working – 3 Year Retrospective
I lead a 100% distributed team for a subsidiary of NYSE:KAR [US-based] and have worked remotely for 5 years. I think this post is very accurate - although we don't have a fancy video-conferencing system, good communication and skype are paramount to remote success (along with VOIP phones, wikis, github enterprise, email and rest of the usual suspects).

Additionally, it takes the right personality -- a self-starter who can work a dedicated day with minimal oversight. That means: not playing xbox in the middle of the day or running around taking your kids to soccer practice (though, a little of that is understood, just not blowing off 5 hours a day).

For me personally, no commute (did the bay area thing for years) and raising my kids where I want to is ultra important. Hope that more companies will realize the benefits of remote engineers. I agree with a comment made here re: lamenting the lack of skilled engineers, but not hiring remote. Rings hollow to me too.

(oh, and I'm hiring!)

RDN | www.recoverydatabase.net | jobs@recoverydatabase.net | Remote, USA

Recovery Database Network(RDN)is the leading web application for the repossession industry. We integrate with many of the largest lending institutions and repossession companies in the country to help facilitate their repossession workflow. Our company is profitable, growing and is looking for engineers to help design & develop our next-generation web and mobile applications in a fast paced, agile environment. Our team is small, creative, and highly driven, and we intend to keep it that way.

We are looking for a US-based employee, but otherwise location doesn’t matter – we believe strongly in the value of a virtual team.

RDN is owned by a larger parent company, OPENLANE, an innovator in the online wholesale auto auction space, which is in turn owned by KAR Auction Services (NYSE: KAR) a publicly held auction services company. You will be designing large elements of a very sophisticated web-application with a large amount of business logic. The ability to quickly come up to speed on repossession related terminology, workflow and concepts is highly desired.
