jtokoph··on Show HN: Play the game I'm developing directly on its website
FWIW, I'm also having trouble with a modern display.
jtokoph··on Nitter.net has disappeared
Theoretically if you setup something like nextdns on the iPhone you could set an override
jtokoph··on Japan's airport control towers stop using 'No.1' instruction for plane takeoffs
I think some combinations of aircraft and runways leads to landing pilots not having a good view of the end of the runway
jtokoph··on Is my plane a 737 MAX?
What is your data source?
jtokoph··on Show HN: I Made a Sudoku Game
This is a nice clean start. For inspiration, check out https://app.crackingthecryptic.com/94Qq6qGjh2 for the next set of features you could add. Important ones are the ability to make "pencil marks"
jtokoph··on Generals.io – Capture enemy generals to defeat them
This is something I never thought about. So key codes are based on the physical location of the key on a standard layout/qwerty, and changing your layout will cause the key value to change but not the code?
jtokoph··on Paying Netflix $0.53/H, etc.
Someone can want to support an artist but disagree with the monetization strategy.
jtokoph··on ViewStats – YouTube Channel Statistics
I’m pretty sure this is just estimating Adsense revenue based on some fixed CPM. Many large YouTubers make the bulk of their revenue from sponsorships and brand deals. I would take the numbers with a large grain of salt.
jtokoph··on I was scared To say this to NASA (But I said it anyway) – Smarter Every Day
People are way more willing to accept negative feedback and direction from a computer than a human. It’s one of the major benefits of code linters and CI. It’s not embarrassing to be told by a computer that you messed up.
jtokoph··on Seraph Secure: anti-scam software co-founded by Kitboga
The new meaning of “parental controls” will be to protect your parents when they use technology.
jtokoph··on The weirdest bug I've seen yet
It’s hard blocked on any corporate devices where I work.
jtokoph··on Okta says hackers stole data for all customer support users
So you can’t run to a competitor when things like this happen.
jtokoph··on For RoR, see every method call, parameter and return value in production
These types of profiling gems usually kill performance
jtokoph··on List of 5 years old YC companies with less then 10 people
I wouldn’t trust the accuracy of the company size field. I don’t think we ever updated that field as our employee count scaled up or down.
jtokoph··on Rosalynn Carter has died
My family also met them once by accident on a holiday cruise in the Caribbean. They apparently take their family on a vacation every year and just happened to book the same cruise as us.

They were very friendly and down to earth. My father spoke to Jimmy at a book signing event on the ship and asked if he could say a few words to Rosalynn if she was around. Jimmy just said something like "sure, head on in to the back room", which was guarded by a member of secret service who let my dad right in.

Side note: The most fun aspect for teen-aged me was seeing the Carters on a bike ride with two Secret Service agents following in tropical shirts and shorts.

jtokoph··on Ransomware Group Files SEC Complaint over Victim's Failure Disclose Data Breach
So you could have two hackers who each tip each other off to companies that they have independently hacked. They can just claim each other's rewards since they had nothing to do with the actual attack?
jtokoph··on iLeakage Attack Exploits Safari to Steal Sensitive Data from Macs, iPhones

jtokoph··on Wait, what's a bookmarklet?
I feel like you’re talking about custom site search that the browser search bar supports and not bookmarklets
jtokoph··on Go Package for Building Progressive Web Apps
It’s odd to me that children are added via a Body method. I would assume it would be a Children method; plus body is its own HTML tag.
jtokoph··on Canada ends official time signal
In the US, many “live” call ins are actually recorded off air (like during commercial breaks) and then played back later.

This gives time to censor, edit or cancel the caller completely. They can also tell the caller to turn off the radio to eliminate noise on the call, but can still hear themselves come on after the call is over.

jtokoph··on Autopay is making us worse at managing credit-card bills
In the US, if you pay your credit card bill in full each month you don’t pay any interest or fees. Most if not all cards give cash back or rewards points in the range of 1-5% depending on the merchant category. So you effectively get a 1-5% discount on all spending compared to paying with cash or debit.
jtokoph··on Lenovo exec promises 80% of its devices will be consumer-repairable by 2025
What will it take to consider a device repairable? Will it count if a laptop has 1 or 2 parts that can be user replaced? (Like swapping a keyboard key cap...)

What if they have two tiers of a device class. Where the base tier has 4 nearly identical models with different skus that are repairable, and a premium tier with 1 sku that is not repairable. Does that count as 80%?

jtokoph··on National emergency alert system outed prisoners hiding phones
I have disabled what I thought was all emergency alerts on my iPhone. That was three separate toggles. This alert still came through.
jtokoph··on Firefox refuses to allow developers to disable picture in picture on videos
Does the browser provide some sort of event or property to the site when a video is playing in PiP mode so the site can display feedback?
jtokoph··on Every single Onewheel is being recalled after four deaths
This seems like a cheap (or maybe even profitable) recall.

For new models, it’s just a software update (~free) and for old models it’s a $100 credit on a new board which probably doesn’t consume all of the profit on a sale of a board.

Plus this coverage is now a ton of free advertising for a product many forgot about or didn’t know about.

Shouldn’t they have just done this years ago? Am I missing something?

jtokoph··on Google ending Basic HTML support for Gmail in 2024
Wouldn’t the native email clients on devices be better anyway?
jtokoph··on Rollbar Had a Data Breach
Why aren’t they taking an action to not copy access tokens to their data warehouse? They could also start hashing them with an additional application salt that wouldn’t be available in the database if someone only had db access
jtokoph··on How far can you jump from a swing?
I haven’t shoveled snow in years but you just brought back some surprisingly good memories of shoveling snow in my teens.
jtokoph··on Anonfiles is shutting down
20 years ago I launched a site that allowed users to upload arbitrary files. It was 99% pirated software/music, viruses and pornography. This is nothing new.
jtokoph··on One car per green: Why the lights on freeway onramps can’t end traffic jams
This feels a bit pointless and a waste of resources. Increasing the average speed of cars by 1 or 2 MPH doesn’t help anybody.
