Speaking of great female aviators. Find the video and story of the 20 something pilot that landed on the interstate in Pensacola, FL yesterday (Aug 3, 2026) after engine troubles. The point where she gets down and under an overhead road sign is incredible and something you only imagine ever happens in the movies. Let me see if I can find a link.

jrs235··on Why do you suck at juggling now?
How dangerous is it to ask the person asking you "What was/is your answer? What are you working on improving?"... I suppose you'll quickly get labeled as a "difficult" employee....
jrs235··on CTOs Agree: Cognitive Debt Is the New Technical Debt
Agreed. Business prioritization and decision making is even more important now. Hopefully the powers that be realize forcing/making busy work is worse than allowing devs to tinker, learn, and address tech itches and debt until the business figures their stuff out and makes a decision.

Most can't. I would say Warren Buffet was level headed, has empathy, and understood he was a steward of resources.

And compensation is based on revenue not profit. A top sales person brings in $5 million of revenue, but it's going to cost the company $7 million to deliver the goods/services. Sales person hit their top goal and will earn his bonuses while making the company worse off.

Some states follow Assumed Maximum Posted Speed (in certain places) and others are Absolute Maximum Posted Speed. It is not absolute in an Assumed Maximum Posted Speed state that driving faster than the posted speed is against the law and deserving of a fine, merely it is prima facie evidence that you were driving dangerously but can be challenged and overturned. For example, in Minnesota, outside of municipalities on highways (there may a few more qualifiers like posted speed is 55 mph or higher and might need to be a divided highway, I don't remember 100%) an officer can pull you over and issue you a ticket for merely driving faster than the posted speed limit. You can even admit you were driving faster (I don't recommend this). You can still challenge the ticket in court. If you can convince a judge that your speed was safe, the judge can let you off. If the weather is dry, temperature moderate, visibility great, no other people or vehicles around you, you were able to safely slow down, and (prima facie evidence) that you posed no risk as no one was injured by you driving faster. In Wisconsin though they are an Absolute Maximum Posted Speed state so if you are found to have been driving faster than the posted speed limit, that's enough to ensure you can be fined.

Unfortunately I can't deliver the file through the normal download mechanism. Here's what I'd suggest: start a new chat, paste this message, and I'll rebuild it instantly since I have all the code in context:

"Please [removed text here that gave away too much of what I was doing, but essentiallty was the prompt]"

Alternatively, if you want I can paste the full contents of each file as code blocks in this chat so you can copy them manually. Just say the word and I'll do that for each file one by one.

jrs235··on Reverse Engineering Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon for DOS from 1990
I never found the bug in that direction. I discovered it the opposite way: when starting out, selling shares (or was it taking loans?) all the shares you can. Get around 30+ million in the hole and continue to lose money. Eventually an arithmetic overflow will occur and then suddenly you'll have a net worth of like $30-40 million and have the money form selling stock to build to your heart's content.

Loved that game. And Sid Meier's Colonization.
jrs235··on That's not how email works
Using tracking pixels in emails is like using AI to generate solutions/code. It is not deterministic, is is only probabilistic.
jrs235··on That's not how email works
>why so and so who said they didn't open the email did have an open event

This was one of the first known issues when Gmail and others began checking and preloading images/content in emails. It was "triggering" that events/requests to tracking pixels. Eventually folks learned and knew to check the user agent to determine if it was just the mail provider preloading/checking the email content.

jrs235··on Man shot and killed by federal agents in south Minneapolis this morning
The problem is some are using only their ears to listen to what they are told happened by those responsible for and overseeing the officers involved and refusing you use their eyes and watch the videos. It seems some just want to believe (a lie) and not dig into know the truth.
jrs235··on Harvard legal scholars debate the state of the U.S. constitution (2025)
Been saying this for almost two decades. State governments no longer have a direct seat and representation at the table. Federal mandates (coercion) like enforce this or don't get funds would never, or at least rarely, happen. It's also the only nonviolent way to dissolve the union, intentionally or through strangulation (state legislatures refusing to elect and seat senators, if a majority of them do this then a quorum can't be reached and funding dies).

jrs235··on Presidential Immunity in the United States
If I understand you correctly, then if a President's cabinet (high officials) break the law the President can be impeached. Which makes sense to me. It places accountability on the President to pick trust worthy people and to immediately get rid of them if they break the law (to lessen the chances they'd be impeached for not doing something about it and insuring they are prosecuted).

The Legal Concept: Barnes v. Felix (2025)

This is the most critical recent "code" development. In May 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Barnes v. Felix that courts must look at the "totality of circumstances" leading up to a shooting.

The Rule: If an officer recklessly steps in front of a vehicle (creating the danger themselves), a court can now rule that their subsequent use of force was unreasonable because they "precipitated" the threat.

Impact: This case effectively ended the "moment of threat" defense, where officers used to argue, "It doesn't matter how I got in front of the car; I shot because it was about to hit me." Now, the law says: "If you put yourself there unnecessarily, you are liable."
