jonesb6··on Founders: Do Not Waste Money on TechCrunch Disrupt’s Startup Alley
Down-voted because people find it romantic living on cereal and a friends couch, all while having employees completely satisfied being paid in equity and high fives.
jonesb6··on Tell HN: AngelList told my employer that I'd updated my profile
People probably read too much into your comment, hence the down votes. Reason would dictate from the very small amount of info provided that AngelList merely made the email out to look like it was from OP. To say they spoofed them email headers would've gotten 3x the number of up-votes.
jonesb6··on Pwn2Own 2016: Chrome, Edge, and Safari hacked, $460k awarded
It's whatever you want it to be
jonesb6··on FBI Cannot Make Apple Rewrite Its OS
I don't know if that particular analogy holds up. Doesn't the FBI have a warrant for these iPhones? And wouldn't, given the FBI had a warrant for a code-locked safe, be able to solicit Acme Safe Inc for either the blueprints of the safe, or help in cracking it?
jonesb6··on 2016 Stack Overflow Developer Survey Results
If 10% of developers on SO are students, and 2.5% graduate every year, does that mean every 10 years the population of developers increases by 25%? Do 25% of developers retire every 10 years?
jonesb6··on Apple Encryption Engineers, If Ordered to Unlock iPhone, Might Resist
For example if the engineer in question was an unattractive male, perhaps also a minority, someone with weird hobbies etc.
jonesb6··on Instagram is switching its feed from chronological to best posts first
Except the real goal likely isn't usability, it's to show promoted content in with the real good content, ala Facebook, Twitter, Imgur, Reddit, Hacker News, the list goes on really.
jonesb6··on LivingSocial Is Laying Off More Than 50 Percent of Its Staff
People do not bite the hand that feeds. How many stories have you read where the VCs get lambasted by founders and employees? Not many right?

Remember it's a two way street. Sure maybe there is some incentive for VCs not to be ass holes. But there is equal incentive for founders (many of whom are serial entrepreneurs) to stay liked by the VC community at large.

Final point: people with "fuck you money" as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, commonly don't give a fuck.

jonesb6··on Twitter shut down Emojitracker's access
Has anyone here built a product that relies on Twitter's API for business critical features? How would you describe your risk tolerance, how long have you been in business, and do you have a personal or professional relationship with Twitter or Twitter's employees?
jonesb6··on Apple files final response in San Bernardino iPhone case
It had nothing to do with Rosa Parks specifically. I was pointing out to the OP that we can't sit here in our ivory desk chairs and tell other people to make a large sacrifice based on some superficial ethos argument. If you want to truly inspire people you do so with honesty and good intentions. You don't grasp at straws and tell people they can be Rosa Parks if they do what you say.

I will concede that explicit is better then implicit, but I seized the opportunity to clear up a historical inaccuracy in the process.

jonesb6··on Apple files final response in San Bernardino iPhone case
I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of "founders" would happily comply with such a request if it meant earning a dollar.
jonesb6··on Apple files final response in San Bernardino iPhone case
If you want to make a critical argument for people to make such a large sacrifice, stop using so much rhetoric. The story of Rosa Parks has been heavily editorialized and she was in fact not the first person to stand up to bus segregation. The first person was Claudette Colvin who refused to give up her seat on the bus March 2nd, 1955, a full 9 months before Rosa Parks [1]. The problem with Claudette Colvin was that she was a pregnant teenager, and the father was a married man.

I am by no means demeaning Rosa Parks. What she did was incredibly brave. I am however pointing out that you are willing to tell other people to sacrifice their jobs by editorializing. That strikes me as immoral, and I believe those at Apple will need to make such a decision honestly and without subterfuge if such a tremendous action is to occur.

Edit: I have 820 karma remaining and will happily throw the rest of it away for this comment, even if not a single one of you post a counter-argument to what I am saying.

All Apple, Google, and Facebook, need to do to get public favor is add a loading spinner for 3-5 seconds on every refresh/page load and make it clear the government surveillance is the cause. I for one look forward to the 2nd American Revolution.
jonesb6··on Researchers say FAA is overblowing risk posed by small drones
I've seen video footage of it. Don't have the link but it was bad enough to throw me into a fit of rage at the drone operators. There were like three or four drones flying directly in the path of a prop plane dropping some kind of retardant on a forest fire.
jonesb6··on SpoonRocket shuts down
As a middle class person I signed up to two subscription services the other day. This is on top of my netflix, A-Prime and other common subscriptions. I realize they might not qualify to "on-demand services" 1:1 but seeing as the customer demographic is pretty much the same I believe on-demand services will always be viable as long as people demand things. And my god do some people demand things.

One start-up is an insignificant sample size.

Founders are responsible for the business, you are right. You were probably down-voted by a "founder" who become unhappy at that thought.

Source: I'm a co-founder, if my business fails it's my fucking fault.

jonesb6··on Ask Us Anything: Y Combinator Hardware Companies Crowdfunding
From my brief research digital ocean only provides credits to YC companies unlike Microsoft, Azure, and even IBM's SoftLayer. I'd just like to point that out. That immediately disqualifies DO for large cloud products due to their pricing and product offerings.
jonesb6··on Youngest Kids in Class at Higher Risk of ADHD Diagnosis
I earnestly wonder what percentage would've recovered with no medication.
jonesb6··on Youngest Kids in Class at Higher Risk of ADHD Diagnosis
This comment spawned a pretty good discussion thread. Yet people down voted it because they disagreed. This is not Reddit.
jonesb6··on Real-Time Web Analytics Dashboard with NodeJs, Socket.io, and VueJs
Apparently they make up ~7% of internet users. So my guess is, yes.
jonesb6··on Enrollment Is Surging in Machine Learning Classes
I always felt classes in emerging fields were a little premature. It seems like it always takes a few years for professors to learn how to teach it, much less what exactly they should be teaching.
jonesb6··on Real-Time Web Analytics Dashboard with NodeJs, Socket.io, and VueJs
Isn't graceful degradation (in support of older browsers) the main feature of Socket.io?
jonesb6··on Youngest Kids in Class at Higher Risk of ADHD Diagnosis
Wait when did we get good at treating depression?
jonesb6··on A better offer letter
Point c is interesting and very insightful (whether it was intentional or not). In order to qualify for a $100k/yr position you must already have a job. This by definition would exclude true entry level candidates, though entry level candidates today seem to be required to have significant work experience as a form of validation.
jonesb6··on Re: Obama on Fetishizing Our Phones
I have hundreds of bookmarks in chrome. I have so many bookmarks that I've essentially stopped making new ones because the back log is simply too large.

That speech I bookmarked. Despite the terrible formatting that speech is a work of art applicable to every human being who holds power, whether it's POTUS or the office manager.

jonesb6··on A better offer letter
How many years until the record setting number of C.S. grads start revealing the shocking truth that they aren't actually getting thrown six figure entry level salaries which sensibly reflects the relatively low number of hires FaceGooBoxSoft make relative to the population of educated western developers?
jonesb6··on A technical guide to SEO
I had an essay for a Philosophy course in college (titled Critical Thinking) where the professor provided the following slide, aptly named "Who should I mistrust".

Point two of four said: "Mistrust the first internet sites that pop up when you search for debatable issues".

Hurray for SEO.

jonesb6··on Valley VCs Sit on Cash, Forcing Startups to Dial Back Ambition
Despite the comment you replied to having no substance, I honestly wonder if people associate Uber with German and German with something negative.
jonesb6··on Pencil: A Microframework Inspired by Flask for Rust
Missed opportunity, should've called it:

"The Blueprint²: The Gift & the Curse"

jonesb6··on How I could have hacked any Facebook account
You know what people put into Facebook chats?

Obligatory quote from Kanye's newest album 'The Life of Pablo':

" I had a cousin that stole my laptop that I was fuckin' bitches on

Paid that nigga 250 thousand just to get it from him "
