johnsmith21006··on Amazon's Alexa Moves in on Google's Android System
Android is used by over 2 billion people on this planet and Alexa by a tiny number in comparison. Amazon tried to do a phone and failed miserably.

Today more voice data will be sent to Google than probably all the Echo voice data since launch. They are not close in market share.

Love the article but disagree on a couple points. First, the ideal is two where both are creative as they work off each other. You can NOT do the creative part with non creative it is too hard. Tons of miss understandings. If they talk about the session they will explain wrong and cause a lot of angst in the group, division, company, etc. Or explain but not provide the reasons as they might not understand the bigger picture.

A huge issue is if the creative person is not the boss or have very strong Influence it is very difficult to get a non creative on board.

With that said I really enjoyed the article. Plus would not be surprised if others disagree with me based on their own experiences. Think parts could be very individual and dependent on external factors.

Should have been 70 billion. :)

The ability to understand you involves understanding language. You have to understand the world to understand language. Google built a 70 node knowledge graph that drives their understanding of the world which enabled them to create a intelligent device. Or something that is more revolutionary versus Echo is more evolutionary.

I have both and purchased the Echo when first launched. The Google Home amazes me every day.

So with Home you say play Madonna song Sean Penn movie and live to tell starts playing.

Echo has a command of "goes like this". Never used it. But everyday Google figures out something.

Our understanding of the world allow us to talk in a condensed form as humans can infer a lot.

Google is doing the same so more and more I talk to Google Home in condensed format.

It is so early with all of this but Google has a incredible foundation. The future is going to be incredible.

Do not know about the all in one. But do have the Google Mesh three pack and really like it. It is pretty cool how it moves around connections and you do not even know.

Network is faster but the app is what I really like. Now just roll over grab my tablet and see if the proper kids are at home. Also allows you see if who they said went home actually went home. How long until they figure how I know?

Spent some time reading the AI.API documentation and looked pretty interesting as a chat bot framework. Anyone else tried it?

Try AI.API. It is a chat bot framework

Have had an echo since launch and the Google Home for a month. The Echo basically uses commands. There is some flexibility but not inference like the Google Home.

So with the echo you sometimes have to do a quick Google search to get the name of the song so you can tell the Echo.

The Google Home does not require the extra step. With the Google Home I am starting to use a condensed English. So I will say "play sting Gwen bottle"

The Google home will launch Sting and Gwen Stefani playing message in the bottle. But the Google Home will also turn on the TV, set the correct input and then start playing.

The Echo is older but for my family use cases the Google Home is far more useful.

This was before the new capibilities just added to the Google Home

johnsmith21006··on Voice Is the Next Big Platform, and Alexa Will Own It
I would do a quick Google search using a lyric or something to get song name to then tell my Echo. Now have the Google Home and no longer need the Google search.
johnsmith21006··on Voice Is the Next Big Platform, and Alexa Will Own It
Had echo since launch and now have the Google home. The Echo uses commands that support some fuzziness. The Google home you just talk.

Apple had the Airport line for 17 years. Google announced the launch date for their new mesh WiFi network and Apple ended the line 1 week before the Google release.

Probably a weird coincidence but is interesting.

There's s two ways to use Linux. You can load something called Crouton which runs inside of ChromeOS and basically exposes Linux. But this method everything goes away on reboot. Maybe way to fix.

The other is to replace ChromeOS with Linux. No different from buying a Windows laptop and replacing Windows with Linux.

johnsmith21006··on How Apple Alienated Mac Loyalists
Same experience with the Chromebook. What I love is the logging in and the computer is you with no signs of any other accounts.

This makes quickly using another computer so easy.

ChomeOS is also noticeably faster than the same hardware with MacOS or Windows.

johnsmith21006··on De-Googleify Internet
Google also is naming their products the English word and basically taking ownership. So Google Photos becomes Photos. Google Home instead of something like Echo. Google WiFi instead of OnHub.

But we are capitalist and Google is using the system in a smart way to grow their business.

So Google is a verb and now they will own more and more English nouns.

I can not fault Google.

On privacy and service capabilities. It is also about choice. If you are not concerned with Google having your data as you feel it does allow improved offering then you should be able to.

I get some think willing to share your private data is insane there are some of us that that would like companies like Google to do more with the data. If I am going to get an ad I prefer one on the NSX Acura than a tampons ad.
