johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
Classroom is paid for and not ad driven.
johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
Totally agree in consumer space. School docs, team roosters, anything was MS forever and basically overnight I only get personal stuff in Google Apps. But work stuff still dominated by MS but some slight cracks.

Personally prefer Google Apps now.

Btw, kids school they have to use Google as workflow including plagiarism check all based on Google Apps. Pretty amazing and had thought MS Office monopoly unbreakable.

You are free to use something else. Google does some things better so people use. Gmail Google solved spam and unlimited storage and won. We should encourage companies to do things better.

Look at Google Photos now being far better so winning. This is how it is suppose to work.

johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
What? Teachers love Classroom and why they pay to use. Something does not dominate as quickly as Google has in k12 unless very good. People do not lime change.
johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
What? Google provided a far better solution to our schools that is more efficient in every aspect. They listened and stepped up. Not a good thing?
johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
Tim Cook is that you? Really this line is rather ridiculous. Google charges per month per child for the software.
johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
CB are not subsidized and schools pay for Google software recurring per kid.
johnsmith21006··on Google is transforming public education with low-cost laptops and free apps
Google Classroom is not free and schools pay per recurring per kid.
johnsmith21006··on Linux Containers Coming to Windows Server Though Hyper-V Isolation
Missing why? Linux free and very efficient. Why?
johnsmith21006··on Facebook and the Cost of Monopoly
Completely disagree. Google has far more data including mapping data that FB does not have. A key aspect is FB only has curated data where Google gets all your data.

I would never share my searches on FB. Google photos has all my photos and FB what willing to share. Then YT has over 1 billion hours a day viewed which is 19x more than FB video and growing faster.

johnsmith21006··on The Evolution of Container Usage at Netflix
What has happened to HN? This thread is so filled with misinformation it is clear there is very little understanding of container.

A container is just a process. Really no different than any other. So cache and shared libraries, etc all the same with just a little care.

johnsmith21006··on The Evolution of Container Usage at Netflix
Containers are simply processes so NOT 1% overhead! No overhead but get hard to believe.
johnsmith21006··on Android overtakes Windows as the internet’s most used operating system
What? I personally had many viruses and malware on Windows and never personally had a single one on Android.
johnsmith21006··on Tech’s ruling class casts a big shadow
Agree and why these latest "tech" companies that do NOT actually sell their tech will not fall as easily from industry changes.

I have a tough time seeing the new three, Google, Amazon and FB going away. I can see it with MS and Apple.

johnsmith21006··on Google Fiber Was Doomed from the Start
The reason Spanner was possible is because Google does NOT use standard TCP/IP. Google created a logical circuit switch network that is determinate versus IP nondeterminat.
johnsmith21006··on Google Fiber Was Doomed from the Start
Do realize Apple also has over $100b of debt and Google about $4b.

"would raise the company’s adjusted debt to more than $100bn."

johnsmith21006··on Google's giant 4K digital whiteboard, Jamboard, will cost $4,999
I want one but not sure why.
johnsmith21006··on Microsoft now puts ads in Windows 10 File Explorer
You forgot ChromeOS taking from MS. Grew over 35% last year while Windows and OS X bith declined.
johnsmith21006··on Gmail Add-ons
This is a great idea. Google is like on Aderall lately.
johnsmith21006··on Google and Apple have different innovation signatures
Agree. Publishing research is a more accurate way and removes the fact the two companies fundamentally view pattents differently.
johnsmith21006··on Google and Apple have different innovation signatures
Think this article misses a fundamental difference between Google and Apple and that is fundamentally the two view patents differently.
johnsmith21006··on Nintendo Switch console runs FreeBSD kernel
I do not think it is a BSD kernel.
johnsmith21006··on Apple's Tim Cook: We really care about pro users
Totally agree on the comparison to Trump. Thought this for a while and never said it. Interesting see the same. Listen to an earnings call.

But the biggest was when TC went on CNBC Cramer and insisted China was going great to find out China was a disaster.

The other was during quiet time he ended up taking a tour of the trading floor right next to were CNBC was broadcasting live. They were like Tim why are here? He said he was talking a tour with his nephew.

Tim went on and on how the AirPods are the biggest product Apple has ever had.

johnsmith21006··on Uber’s vice president of product and growth Ed Baker has resigned
I can not imagine Kalanick surviving.
johnsmith21006··on Is the Switch the second console this generation to run FreeBSD?
More likely reskin Android than BSD. Minimum Linux kernel.
johnsmith21006··on Is the Switch the second console this generation to run FreeBSD?
I do not think based on FreeBSD. Most likely Linux kernel and decent chance Android.
johnsmith21006··on 0patching a 0-day: Windows gdi32.dll memory disclosure
Why does Microsoft not find and instead Google? MS is not a startup and it is their code. Seems weird that Google has to fine their issues.

What does this say about using Google software versus software from Microsoft? Or am I missing something obvious?

johnsmith21006··on ‘What Do You Think Is the Most Important Problem Facing This Country Today?’
Trump
johnsmith21006··on Google Goes Public with Unpatched Microsoft Edge and IE Vulnerability
Google owns a decent chunk of CloudFlare. They shared the flaw as they should last week.

I see nothing close to Google trying to get MS. Instead it is what should be done.

Mow me with things like Scrougle and MS replaced YouTube as with their own i probably would not be so nice.

Look at Amazon will not allow Chromecast to be sold on their site. Personally i would have removed Amazon from their search engine but not Google.

Look at Uber. If i was Google i would use my power to destroy but not Google.

Feel how ever you want about Google but let's at least be fair.
