jnrk··on Apple may soon track when Google promotes Chrome inside Safari
I can't remember ever seeing a Safari nag.
jnrk··on Tiny Brutalism
That's exactly it. Modern buildings are cheaper, so they get built. Cash rules everything in construction, and nobody wants to build expensive unless they have an idealist client.

Venti is 20 in Italian. 20 oz? IDK
jnrk··on Apple is no longer thinking different
To be fair, a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra costs just as much.
jnrk··on RavynOS: Pre-alpha open-source OS based on Darwin, FreeBSD, Apple open-source
I'm pretty sure it's "Is Darwin really all that exciting?"
jnrk··on Fastmail offers EU data region
Fastmail is Australian though.
jnrk··on Archaeologists Find Ancient Glyphs in the Amazon

jnrk··on AirPods Max 2
I have absolutely no problem with the weight. My only gripe is with the battery and lack of a power button.
jnrk··on Fluorite – A console-grade game engine fully integrated with Flutter
I agree. Going back to a car without a 360 camera is unthinkable now that I've gotten so used to it...
jnrk··on Swift in the Browser with ElementaryUI (Swift FOSDEM 2026 Talk) [video]
I agree, but it's already been 15 years since it was released so I'm losing hope..
jnrk··on The URL shortener that makes your links look as suspicious as possible
Of course, the downside is that people might not even see your site at all because they’re afraid to click on that suspicious link.
jnrk··on Two billion email addresses were exposed
Really? I find it to be the complete opposite.
jnrk··on Helium Browser
> I don't why webkit is more popular.

Because Safari comes pre-installed on billions of devices?

jnrk··on Finding the Best Sleep Tracker
I've found Garmin's sleep tracking to be unreliable. For instance, if I lie in bed reading before I fall asleep, it often incorrectly logs that time as sleep.
jnrk··on Comic Mono
I've taken the Coding Font blind test tournament a couple of times the last years, and I somehow always end up with Fira Code as the winner.

jnrk··on Everyone says Chrome devastates Mac battery life, but does it? 36 hour test
He did though:

> […] but I did install an ad blocker on both for a few tests, but they didn’t change the results at all for me.

jnrk··on Swift is a more convenient Rust
> look at IBM abandoning Swift on the server not that long ago

That was back in 2019..

jnrk··on Dungeon Dash – A super fun command-line RPG game
How do I downvote on HN?
jnrk··on Zen, a Arc-like open-source browser based on the Firefox engine
Edge has a convenient split view feature that allows you to set links from the first pane to open in the second pane, rather than in a new tab. Particularly useful for browsing Hacker News etc.
jnrk··on Good News: Cars Will Need Buttons to Get Perfect Safety Ratings in Europe
It’s the reason I bought an EQC instead of a Model Y. It has screens, but all important functions also have physical buttons.
jnrk··on Cleaning up my 200GB iCloud with some JavaScript
This only works for files saved locally though. Doesn’t help with large files on the iCloud server.
jnrk··on Web browser as GUI, with your preferred language in the backend
No you’re right. It’s the same logo with a color shift and droplets removed:

jnrk··on Little macOS Apps That Make a Big Difference in 2024
I’ll add Raycast, which is a launcher but does so much more (including window management)

https://www.raycast.com/

jnrk··on Don't Use Thorium Browser – If Installed, Remove It
> The browser just had an suggestive bunny picture easter egg on that and had this thoughts about anti circumcision

If you visit the link posted in the comments above, you will see that it wasn't only thoughts about circumcision but also pictures.

jnrk··on Ask HN: What perfect software did you discover of recent?
I would also recommend Raycast. It’s a launcher, but it can also windows management - and so much more.

jnrk··on Write shaders for the (sim) Vegas sphere
Nice!
jnrk··on Amiga Graphics Archive
Oh this brings back a lot of memories. I was fascinated by the Amiga demo scene when I was younger and especially the graphics and logos. Watched countless demos and intros. Made, Fade One, Facet and Ra were some of my favorite graphics artist back then.
jnrk··on Chrome pushes forward with plans to limit ad blockers in the future
Agreed. I look around in my office and no one else than me is running any kind of adblocker. Most people don’t care or don’t even know adblockers exist.
jnrk··on Roc – A fast, friendly, functional language
Svelte does a pretty good job too.
