jinushaun··on Congress Wants You to Pay $130 a Year Just to Drive an Electric Car
Punish the users that use it the most? Sounds fair
jinushaun··on Google changes its search box
Gone are the days where people are searching for websites. People are searching for answers. This trend started when Google Search added a calculator. I distinctly remember when Google started showing answers to simple questions like “what is the elevation of Everest” nearly 15 years ago. This is just the next evolution of that.
jinushaun··on Project Hail Mary – Stellar Navigation Chart
This is amazing and even works on a phone. Controls are intuitive and no bugs or glitches. Incredible.
jinushaun··on The Zulip Foundation
Have you used Zulip? The UX is basically chat for vim and tmux users. It doesn’t “feel” like chatting. Not exactly user friendly.
jinushaun··on From CVS to Git, thirty years of source control
Ironically, GitHub became popular because it gave everyone a centralized repo—exactly the thing people liked about SVN.
jinushaun··on Microsoft offers buyouts up to 7% of US employees
Maybe, but whoever are currently there aren’t making Windows 11 better.
jinushaun··on Highlights from Git 2.54
`git history reword` is great. Using `git rebase -i` just to fix a spelling error is overkill and doesn’t actually do what I want.
jinushaun··on Claude Code to be removed from Anthropic's Pro plan?
Because Claude Code provides me more value than simply a chat agent. Claude Code is the only thing I pay for. I can do chat things with the free tier across all the LLMs.
jinushaun··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
Cost? Speed?
jinushaun··on Tim Cook's Impeccable Timing
I think people underestimate execution. When something is done well, it looks easy. But if it was so easy, why are other competitors struggling to execute the same thing?
jinushaun··on Tim Cook's Impeccable Timing
I think you underestimate what he does. It seems simple and obvious in hindsight, but if it were so easy, others would not be so far behind. A difficult thing done well looks easy. Reminds me of when Toyota disrupted auto manufacturing.

Under Tim Cook, Apple has pretty much exclusive access to certain parts and suppliers. Apple buys up all the silicon. Competitors can’t compete at the same quality without paying a premium, which digs into margins. It’s one of the reasons why non-Apple stuff feels so cheap. This lockdown allows Apple to have huge margins compared to competitors because Apple pays a discounted rate due to sheer volume.

jinushaun··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
Isn’t this kind of like the Nvidia/OpenAI deal? Just circulating debt/money
jinushaun··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
EU is late by 19 years. No one cares anymore about user replaceable batteries.
jinushaun··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
I really hope they fire whoever is in charge of Liquid Glass. Whoever is leading Apple software has run out of ideas. Of all the countless things they could be doing in software, we got the useless Liquid Glass refactor.
jinushaun··on US plans to automatically register young men for military draft
But none of those reasons are technical limitations. They are political.

The “system” knows who can vote, even if there might not be a unified system currently to automatically validate that.

Same with taxes. These things can be automatically reported at the time of purchase.

jinushaun··on Newly created Polymarket accounts win big on well-timed Iran ceasefire bets
Ignoring the gamblers losing money because they lack insider information, the harm is that you changed the incentive for war. It is motivated by money for the gamblers, not military or political objectives. The difference between this and rigged sports gambling is that people die. They die on a whim and they die unnecessarily. I shouldn’t have to explain why people dying is bad.
jinushaun··on French e, è, é, ê, ë – what's the difference?
Technically true, but this concept is foreign to English speakers. English relies heavily on diphthongs and can’t separate the sounds in their head. Simplest example is probably the word “no” which is very much a diphthong.

That’s why they always have such predictable accents in another language.

jinushaun··on Goodbye to Sora
Only because they promote it. The default experience for a new user on Youtube is to show you content from creators with 5M+ subscribers. It’s a positive feedback loop.

I find all of it lame and cringe, so I downvote all of that. However stuff still sneaks by…

jinushaun··on JavaScript Is Enough
Two way props make for a nice demo, but are a nightmare to maintain.
jinushaun··on The Reason Windows Hate Is Exploding: It's the End of Personal Computing [video]
No, Windows was broken before AI
jinushaun··on Wired headphone sales are exploding
My second pair of AirPods is not even 2 years old yet and I don’t think it will last much longer. The first one died quickly too. My next headphones will be wired
jinushaun··on Anthropic, please make a new Slack
Did you read the article? It’s not a crazy ask. They want multi-user Claude sessions. But what stops the humans from talking to each other? Boom! You suddenly have Slack.
jinushaun··on Anthropic, please make a new Slack
But group chat is chat. Even the chat interface with Claude is chat. You can also say the same for any sort of commenting system. Posts and comments, tweets and comments, etc.

I’ve built such system many times. They’re basically all the same, especially if you introduce real time updates. Channels and threads are just organization strategies.

jinushaun··on Why XML tags are so fundamental to Claude
Except quotation marks look like regular text. I regularly use quotes in prompts for, ya know, quotes.
jinushaun··on Red Robin Died by Spreadsheet. Don't Make the Same Mistake
Same. Feels like “AI slop” was trained on my personal writing style. The quoted text from the article writes with the same voice as mine.
jinushaun··on Meta to retire messenger desktop app and messenger.com in April 2026
They really are forcing me to visit facebook.com in 2026 aren’t they? Guess I’ll stop using FB messenger when I’m on a computer.
jinushaun··on Washington imposes 'terrorist-grade sanctions' on Francesca Albanese, ICC judges
In 2026, everyone is a terrorist. Just like we predicted back in 2001.
jinushaun··on Microsoft is walking back Windows 11's AI overload
> The PMs are completely asleep at the wheel, when they aren't actively self-sabotaging.

You’ve never worked at MS, have you? PMs aren’t asleep at the wheel. They are doing their job because their performance reviews are tied to adding these top-down goals into the team’s roadmap. That’s the horrible part.

jinushaun··on Antirender: remove the glossy shine on architectural renderings
This reminds me of “emo” music. All the emotions except happiness. These renders are depressing.
jinushaun··on Tesla is committing automotive suicide
You can say the same about the traditional car industry. Just because it’s a “solved problem” doesn’t mean you can ignore the TAM.

I think people are frustrated because Musk has been pretty up front that Tesla only exists to further his goals for Mars and robots. He doesn’t actually care about selling cars.
