jeltz··on AI companies leak data to advertisers [pdf]
Incompetence and carelessness is rampant in our industry abd with vibe coding it has only gotten worse.
jeltz··on AI companies leak data to advertisers [pdf]
> a whole bunch of their execs come from Meta, and all those guys learned the hard way.

Apparently they have not learned, or they learned the wrong lesson. I do not think they leak it intentionally as hoarding is typically more profitable than selling but anyone who has been in the industry for some time knows that the move fast and break things attitude has caused enormous amounts of data leaks.

jeltz··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Consumption of cheap alcohol is going down too and we can see the same trend among young people even in countries experiencing decreases in CoL.
jeltz··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
You see the same trend in countries without a crashing economy. The economy is not the main reason.
jeltz··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Yes, they are on Discord.
jeltz··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
It used to be true for all non-alcoholic beers in Sweden but it is not true anymore, do it is very possible that all non-alcoholic beers are actually bad where they live. Or they just base their comment on old data.
jeltz··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
Such a disclaimer does not even remove all legal liability, it just reduces it.
jeltz··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
As an open source developer I hate this attitude. If you do not care about the users why are you even releasing the software?
jeltz··on "They had no concept of a duty of care to their users."
I already build software where I hold myself to a higher standard than malware, so not sure I get your point. Why not strive for a better world with good software?
jeltz··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
So that answer us no because such software does virtually not exist.
jeltz··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
Yeah, people like him is what the doenvote button is intended for.
jeltz··on Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe
That just sounds like another hobbyhorse.
jeltz··on Floci: Locally emulating any cloud service
It is also similar to an old Norse name: Floki.
jeltz··on Automattic has a new board after failed attempt to put CEO on leave
Plenty of strong indications, including the lawsuits from former staff working for him and his mom.
jeltz··on Automattic has a new board after failed attempt to put CEO on leave
Yeah, that is the main thing which makes to board look bad. Mulleweg has always been a problem and will not stop being so. They should have resigned.
jeltz··on Automattic has a new board after failed attempt to put CEO on leave
Legally the board has the duty to represent all shareholders, minority and majority, and of they cannot they have to resign.
jeltz··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
In my country if I do not pay my taxes I do not get thrown in jail. Tax fraud gets you thrown in jail, but correctly declaring income but just not paying does not get you thrown in jail since we abolished debtors prison. And when we had debtors prison any debt could throw you in prison so that was a terrible definition since it means Sweden has no tax right now and in the past any debt would have been tax.
jeltz··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
So countries without their own currency don't have taxation? Not all countries can print money.
jeltz··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
8% for Stripe? Why would anyone have to pay that when my tiny company pays 1.5%?
jeltz··on Oracle on the hook to pay data centre investors even if site has no electricity
I hate Oracle and many of their products and long term it may be a blessing but a lot of conpanies, government agencies, hospitals, etc rely on their diverse suite of enterprise software.
jeltz··on Oracle on the hook to pay data centre investors even if site has no electricity
What makes to possible collapse of Oracle worse is that they have an actual business too that is currently getting cannibalized to feed the AI projects. If coreweave fails that is bad but oracle failing will be worse.
jeltz··on Oracle cites 'force majeure' to shield itself on controversial data center
Good product ... not really. It has some nice features but it is user hostile, buggy and with a bad manual. Running the Oracle database was quite shocking, surprisingly low quality.
jeltz··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
We still do not know who did it as several experts in diving have claimed that the story published by the journalists is not possible and the German police investigation seems to have stalled.

Still seems like any of Russia, Ukraine or Ukrainian citizens on their own initiative could have dove it.

jeltz··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
NATO does not need to win a war. They just need to hurt Russia bad enough Ukraine wins.
jeltz··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
This did not happen in Germany! If my grandmother was a bike she would have two wheels.
jeltz··on Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
If that happens they will be broken too as nobody had money to buy their services.
jeltz··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
That mindset is indicative of security theatre to me. But as security theatre is common in entrprise IT that does not surprise me.
jeltz··on I said no and Apple said yes
I am confused here. While I generally like Mac hardware the trackpads are quite mediocre. Lenovo and Dell have better ones. What are they better at?
jeltz··on I said no and Apple said yes
By those standards neither Mac nor Windows just work. No modern OS expect maybe ChromeOS just works.
jeltz··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
In the EU the leftists have no significant powers so not sure why we even talk about them here. The EU right now is ran by mostly centrists and right-wingers.
