jdimov9··on A Message to the Apple Community in Europe
So it seems to me that the Irish government should be punished, not Apple. Apple did nothing illegal.
jdimov9··on List of languages by time of extinction
Not a chance. For any globalisation / unification force there is an equal and opposite force pulling towards autonomy / authenticity / diversity. Language is a very core component of human identity.
jdimov9··on Nasa just made all its research available online for free
How huge is it? What's something that you can access now that you couldn't before?
jdimov9··on Mercedes-Benz shows off the first fully electric heavy urban transport truck
Can't wait!
jdimov9··on Why do so few humans kill themselves?
You don't seem to understand much about evolution, or life. Claiming that evolution is a random, unguided "whatever works" process is mere ignorance. To everyone who has ever looked around (or listened around, or sensed around) even for one moment, it is beyond obvious that not only evolution works "by design", but that this design is supremely personal and the ultimate in creativity. So the implied negative connotations in your "creationist" label are misplaced.
jdimov9··on Vim is better than emacs
Shorter to type, for starters.
jdimov9··on Moving Away from Python 2
Let's put it this way: there is nothing I would do in Python, that I wouldn't do in Elixir. For all intents and purposes, that's general purpose.
jdimov9··on A former CIA spy has revealed his key role in the arrest of Nelson Mandela
I happen to have the exact same reaction to both (and it's not the kinder one).
jdimov9··on Moving Away from Python 2
Elixir _is_ the correct answer. Not sure what you mean by "narrow focus" - it is as general purpose as anything. Only thing holding me back from fully moving from Python to Elixir is that the ecosystem isn't mature enough yet.
jdimov9··on A former CIA spy has revealed his key role in the arrest of Nelson Mandela
I've been told this a number of times. I've never read any Ayn Rand - probably should. I was, however, born and raised in communism, as were my parents, so I talk from experience.
jdimov9··on A former CIA spy has revealed his key role in the arrest of Nelson Mandela
You are clearly incompetent about the subject. The "ideal" of communism and the practice of communism are not two different things. Communism is practiced precisely the way it is theoretically intended to work.

Communism is a cleptocratic system of ruling and exploiting the manual labour and natural resources of any given territory inhabited by unambitious masses that largely lack individualism. The core of the system relies on individualism and personal achievement being punished and forcefully suppressed, while the masses are continuously promised vague ideals of equality and justice (much like with any other system of government - nothing innovative here. ) There is nothing acceptable about communism - not in theory, not in practice, not in ideals - nothig.

jdimov9··on A former CIA spy has revealed his key role in the arrest of Nelson Mandela
In what twisted mind is communism an acceptable proposition???
jdimov9··on Global Citizenship a Growing Sentiment Among Citizens of Emerging Economies
It is orders of magnitude beyond stupid - it's utterly brainless. So your nation has PROVIDED you with your values, huh? Yay. The objective of patriotism has been achieved. Now go and fight to the death for your beloved nation, because surely no other values should exist on Earth.
jdimov9··on Global Citizenship a Growing Sentiment Among Citizens of Emerging Economies
Any move away from the stupidity of patriotism is good in my books.
jdimov9··on Hedgehogs, the Keepers of Order and Knowledge in Slavic Fairy Tales
Definitely rightness, not goodness. A "good God" would never punish. Only one with an ulterior agenda (and therefore not a true creator) would resort to punishment.
jdimov9··on A majority of millennials now reject capitalism
You can also reject sunlight if you want to. Guess who you're screwing up?
jdimov9··on How the CIA writes history
Do Americans actually sincerely believe that they live in an actual "free society" / "democracy" / whatever... Blows my mind.
jdimov9··on Half Your Brain Stands Guard When Sleeping in a New Place
Not my experience at all. In hotels I tend to sleep like a baby, often better than I do at home.
jdimov9··on Almost Nothing About the ‘Apple Harvests Gold from iPhones’ Story Is True
BS. All of mainstream media is (and has always been, by design) a tool for _manipulating_ public opinion, not for reflecting reality. So any talk about objectivity in journalism is utterly misplaced.
jdimov9··on The Black Death: The Greatest Catastrophe (2005)
I fully own all of my advantages and make a conscious decision not to share any of them with you, because you're an asshole.
jdimov9··on Novice pilot skills improved via expert-pilot brainwave patterns
I wonder what else they picked up...
jdimov9··on Washington Should Prepare for Saudi Arabia's Collapse
I am very much pro-Russia. You got a problem with that?
jdimov9··on Django React Redux JWT Base Project
Ugh! Blah. Spit.
jdimov9··on 60% of working software engineers do Not have a CS degree
And 100% of the "software engineers" with a CS degree are not actually engineers.
jdimov9··on Poll: Clojure vs. Elixir vs. Haskell
For learning, I would pick Haskell.

For getting work done - Elixir.

I won't even look at Clojure, since I'm alergic to Java.

jdimov9··on Why Arabs Lose Wars (1999)
In a context like global politics, where you can never even hope to have any access to any actual "facts", there are no arguments - only manipulation of "opinions". So the agenda of the author is the ONLY thing that matters.
jdimov9··on AWS mistakes to avoid
Use RDS.
jdimov9··on Suleiman the Magnificent's tomb believed to have been found in Hungary
There are hardly any ideological differences between this celebrated sultan and the ISIS (Daesh) religious leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Their ambitions are also largely identical.

Incidentally, Russia freed my country (Bulgaria) from the oppression of the Turkish (aka Ottoman) empire 300 years ago. Today, Russia again seems to be the only country with the will AND capability to fight ISIS (Daesh).

jdimov9··on Lists: design and construction (2007)
Can someone provide a 6-point bullet list with the TL;DR of this (meta-)article?
jdimov9··on Estonia's E-Residency Program Is Growing Faster Than Predicted
Try opening a bank account in the UK, if you think it's hard in Estonia. Unlike Estonia, you CAN NOT just come to the UK from a foreign country and open a bank account. Even if you've lived here for a while, it's still an unbelievably ridiculous, frustrating and wasteful process.

Let's start with having to call the bank weeks or months in advance for an appointment, like everything else in the UK. Even though your appointment is for a specific hour, once you arrive on time, be prepared to wait hours before someone sees you. You will then need two different proofs of address, alongside endless other documents. For a business account, you need all partners to be present at said appointment and you will be asked endless questions about the nature of your business and your expected cashflow. If for some reason your conversational English happens to be not so good, be prepared to be flat-out refused a bank account, without much explanation. All of this is usually justified by Know-Your-Customer and anti money lanundering procedures, which is a bit ironic, considering that HSBC are the ones doing all the money laundering to begin with.
