Sun Microsystems was acquired in 2010... I guess I should give Thomas the benefit of the doubt that he intended the statement to apply to Oracle's owned IP & not be a historical account of the language's creation and creators, but this rubbed me the wrong way.

If you ever want to have more control, you can "eject" & customize however you like.
It just _has_ to be satire, though!
Nothing like condemning the entirety of a thing based on a single limited intentionally-bottom-of-the-barrel experience!
Original link worked for me, fwiw.

Confirms the `chrome://flags/#enable-site-per-process` flag is useful here & sure enough, the 2018-01-05 SPL was waiting for me on my Pixel when I looked.
In the show, the device physically stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain to the point that players are highly addicted & easily manipulated.
I interpret it as allegory to the way "real" video games leverage variable rewards & other reinforcement to do something similar.
The Bartle Test is a pretty common tool / consideration in gaming psych & gamified interfaces.
I don't have to worry about securing local currency before I can get around -- it just uses my card (which doesn't charge a fee to convert).
I don't have to worry about not being able to explain where I'm trying to go across language barriers or various levels of familiarity with a locale -- the built-in map app works the same way in Paris, London, Prague as it does in San Francisco or Durham. The GPS features keep drivers honest as to routes and adds a (small) sense of security as you know your journey is being tracked in case something goes sideways.
All that said, LibreTaxi looks really promising & I really like the premise behind it. Maybe, some day, I'll not want the tracking features, for example. I hope it takes off!
Thanks for sharing your work!

Were you worried about getting scrooged by Disney? :)
Of course raw coding talent & algorithmic skill are paramount, but what's neat about this contest is there is only one keyboard per team, so things like these quickly set teams apart:
* ordering the problems according to difficulty
* architecting a solution before implementing it
* concise, effective, communication
* using brute force when elegance adds time
* knowing your environment like the back of your hand
* ability to thrive under pressure
In my opinion, skills like these translate really well to success in the fast-paced, agile shops that are flourishing in many markets.
