jaunkst··on CDC team studying East Palestine train derailment fell ill during investigation
There is no ownership when the repercussions are soft and deferred.
jaunkst··on AI converts between hundreds of programming languages
I’ve written translators that also had to consider pattern changes. The amount of training to translate code effectively is enormous to be effective at scale. I assume this is segmenting separate models based on each language permutation.

I would love to see AI applied to predict algorithms and provide intelligent recommendations.

jaunkst··on I love my GPD Micro PC
Waiting on my Win Max 2 now. It's shaping up to be an incredible device.
jaunkst··on Twitter data breach exposes contact details for 5.4M accounts; on sale for $30k
Jokes on them 75% of them are bot accounts.
jaunkst··on A clip from Stray got me banned from Twitter
That's a real issue. It's not just a monopoly in a competitive sense but also a monopoly on 'public squares'. Which is effectively against free speech.

When a company or moderator has the power to ban you from a public space your are ostracized by a non-democratic panel, with unknown agendas.

jaunkst··on Roguelike Tutorial in Rust (2019)
That is one of the reasons why I got into programming. Not exactly because of roguelikes but MUDs. After playing muds, and wanting to make my own I started with Diku, and then started building them from scratch in many other languages.

The ECS pattern became something really interesting to me just because of the highly serializable state.

One of the MUDs my community was involved in had a great developer behind it. It was just so amazing how fast new features were added to the system. The idea that you don't need assets, animations, etc is critical.

I would love for a book series that would cover something like this in multiple languages.

jaunkst··on Design lessons from guitar pedals
I recently acquired a Quad Cortex, and the rugged rotary stomp knobs combined with the 7" in display is awesome. The ML in that thing is sweet too. It's definitely a feat worth mentioning.
jaunkst··on [dead]
Geekologie has shut down.

Thank you to everybody.

Now go be happy.

jaunkst··on Homes in 97% of U.S. cities are overvalued, Moody's says
I’m up 125%. 10% loss would be a great consolidation.
jaunkst··on The Front-End Developer's Guide to the Terminal
This isn't just a frontend problem. There are quite a few IDE's like IntelliJ Idea that have been the only interface for many developers.
jaunkst··on Impressions from a first-time Mac user
So the UX is worse than Linux, and Windows? I don't believe that for one second.
jaunkst··on An Astronaut’s Guide to Mental Models
When I hear mental model I am thinking more.of the lines of perception. The value of a mental model is understanding it. To the extent of replicating or teaching it. It is a model. A model is defining a set of relatable understanding to another. Finding a commen sense set of abstractions.
jaunkst··on RIP Syd Mead (Blade Runner, TRON Designer)
Love them both. One is extremely organic and the other is a sort of macro greeble feel.
jaunkst··on Publish – A static site generator for Swift developers
It's fast. It's static. CDN as mentioned. Nothing impressive here though. This wheel has been done.
jaunkst··on AirPods Pro Page Performance
We have customers in industrial processes that care. Internet is questionable and they are not working overtime for bloated software.
jaunkst··on AirPods Pro Page Performance
Didn't read but sounds like web components without a bundling concept.
jaunkst··on Swift Server Work Group Annual Update
No thanks.
jaunkst··on What Happened to 'Miegakure,' the Game That Promised the 4th Dimension? (2018)
It didn't disappearing
jaunkst··on Girl’s $143k bill for snakebite treatment reveals antivenin price gouging
Yikes. Think I'm going to learn to do my own stiches.
jaunkst··on Sorting Algorithm Cheat Sheet
I'm less worried about understanding of sorting algorithms than I am about understanding of patterns. With any team at scale my hardest challenge is about patterns. More importantly why a pattern is used. Efficiency of a sorting algorithm can be refactored. Is the implementation of the sorting composable? I'll hire without question someone who understands patterns and composablilty over someone who can site an ideal solution. Seriously at what cost does readability over complexity really mean anything to consumer value. I understand that in very limited scope computational efficiency is imperative but let's be pragmatic and say good programming and understanding of best practices trump perfect solutions.
jaunkst··on The Linux Edge (1999)
We might see containers running closer to metal as market interest demands can drum up money to do it.
jaunkst··on Web Components could replace frontend frameworks?
That is great, but I am still 100% sceptical of a web component intergration with any given framework. Is the integration point opinounated? Is it reactive, callbacks? Two way bindings? What does the application lifecycle look like? Would it be just opiononated sets of components? I just don't know... If I'm wrapping web components to meet our design patterns then why bother at all? I feel like the entire web component concept from an API level is a great concept but just not there for real world at scale consumption. I may just be not optimistic about it all.
jaunkst··on Web Components could replace frontend frameworks?
Ploymer was a crapshow and HTML import a nightmare for load times. Unless some sort of topology bundling is provided for web components I'm out. We tried to do generic components for multiple frameworks based in webcomponets and it was an utter failure in practice especially for low band networks.
jaunkst··on CityBound – An open source city simulation game in Rust
The react thing is cool, I have toyed with JSX to immediate mode OpenGL UI rendering with a JS runtime engine. I stopped working on it because I need to move over to a Vulkan API or something because my primary OS is OSX. Im feeling a bit of inspiration for this project. Very neat!
jaunkst··on 800M Email Addresses Leaked Online by Email Verification Service
I have more than that in my spam folder
jaunkst··on Programming the Z3 SMT solver
Can I get a lam ns example of what z3 is and what it is?
jaunkst··on Pattern Matching Custom Data Types in TypeScript
You could use a typescript decorator to make it less verbose to setup I suppose. I would rather have a more native approach.
jaunkst··on The benefits and costs of writing a POSIX kernel in a high-level language
GC can make high demand applications stutter. From a performance and security prespective I think rust makes a great candidate for a HLL kernal.
jaunkst··on Javascript: call functions without using parentheses
graphql-tags does this also
jaunkst··on Javascript Fundamentals: ‘this’ keyword
This is fine. It's not confusing. Don't expect JavaScript to be Java.
