jasdine817··on Echo Dots store a wealth of data, even after you reset them
WiFi credentials maybe but I can't imagine the devices hold Netflix user passwords, I've never encountered it but surely the Netflix API just negotiates an API key tied to the user?
jasdine817··on Barclays stops UK clients from sending funds to Binance
In this case, Barclays are the banking providers of several crypto companies including Coinbase in the UK.
jasdine817··on Binance banned from doing business in UK
I just used a tool called BIP39 generator on and offline machine which you can feed entropy and it will generate a bitcoin private key. then sent funds to that address.

Then just keep those details safe.

jasdine817··on Windows 11
Full disk encryption for one thing.
jasdine817··on There are at least 10 different Microsoft design conventions in Windows 11
Loads of third party apps have shell extensions that use control panel and there's 20 years of settings to migrate over. It's getting there.
jasdine817··on Password Managers
I manage a password manager for an MSP that supports hundreds of Azure tenancies with dozens of engineers. 2FA codes in the password manager in a shared space is far safer than a non synchronised account with no 2FA. Since the TOTP code is not accessible too, it also means that password manager breaches are time limited.

Just depends on your use case.

jasdine817··on Ford “Volume knob” is “finger” on set of bearings epoxied directly onto display
You know that new car smell? That's the smell of all the glues they use.
jasdine817··on Office 365 leaking BCC domain name
Hotmail hasn't existed for at least a decade.
jasdine817··on Don't make customers hunt for the Sign In button on your website
Because different people have different requirements.
jasdine817··on LG dryer traffic – 1GB+ daily up/down
Surely you can just set the timer most washing machines to start it a few hours after you leave? Personally though having washing machines running in an empty house makes me nervous.
jasdine817··on We sampled tap water across the US – and found arsenic, lead and toxic chemicals
You make it sound like it hasn't already been tried. As far as I know every time you remove the social safety nets you turn society into a Dickensian nightmare where the poorest in society struggle massively, not 'innovation' or 'freedom'.
jasdine817··on Ubiquiti starts serving ads in their management interface
For home office/SMBs routers you can't really beat Draytek boxes. I've had ones last 9+ years and they receive regular updates for 5+ years and are extremely solid. They have devices that have wireless radios in too but I tend to buy a used Ruckus WAP and set that up in addition because the coverage on those beats most things out there.
jasdine817··on Calc.exe is now open source; there’s surprising depth in its ancient code (2019)
Folders in Windows can be network locations or internet locations without any guarantees on their access speed, makes sense to show to the user that it's still doing something.
jasdine817··on The Worsening State of Ransomware
No they don't, they usually just use common encryption library and encrypt files directly.
jasdine817··on Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative
SharePoint Lists is designed to compete with Airtables.
jasdine817··on 30k U.S. organizations newly hacked via holes in Microsoft Exchange Server
As someone who surveys different organizations networks day in and out, the amount of unpatched and out of date Exchange servers (and other internet facing services) I see is ridiculous. Most sysadmins don't have a tangible idea of the risk they take when they set this stuff up. At least Office 365 is patched and monitored on a regular basis and has actual security teams tasked with looking for potential exploits.
jasdine817··on Wi-Fi 6 is designed to reduce congestion from devices
Along with what everyone else has said some vendors such as Meraki and Ruckus have separate radios just designed for monitoring the spectrum and making changes accordingly. Groups of APs will automatically decrease their power and channel swap to avoid channel overlap etc.
jasdine817··on The worst of the two worlds: Excel meets Outlook
People do this in my company even despite us having SharePoint which has decent enough support for collaborative capabilities and should in theory get rid of any need for different document versions, but that escapes many people.
jasdine817··on An experiment in giving cash to recently homeless people [video]
It was created by a conman and has very flakey medical basis. I suggest reading up on it.
jasdine817··on Green hackers around the world, let’s destroy Bitcoin
That makes the system more efficient by allowing more transactions but doesn't lower the total energy expenditure.
jasdine817··on Green hackers around the world, let’s destroy Bitcoin
In what way is Hawala trustless?
jasdine817··on Drawbacks of P2P and a defense of Signal
And who knows if it's actually the software they deploy too.
jasdine817··on The Virus Changed. Now We Must ‘Get to Zero’ or Face Catastrophe
The main issue is a voting system that only allows two parties to compete and makes parties between fractious groups of people with very different views. The Tories for whatever reason are just far better at aligning most of their party to the goal of winning.
jasdine817··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Whats the point of moving away from WhatsApp for privacy reasons only to go to Telegram that also has privacy and security concerns?
jasdine817··on UK and EU agree Brexit trade deal
Considering that UK businesses will now have to follow rules that the UK has no say in making, doesn't really feel like a great improvement. Especially since UK law was always legally supreme and new EU laws had to be ratified by parliament anyway.
jasdine817··on UK and EU agree Brexit trade deal
This is due to the rise of China. The UKs main export market is the EU so it makes sense for it to stay in the organisation that governs regulations in that market.
jasdine817··on Windows 0day privilege escalation still not fixed
Sure it's not including Edge tabs in the alt tab screen? You can turn that off.
jasdine817··on How and why I stopped buying new laptops
The magnesium alloy ThinkPads and some Dells use is far more durable than aluminium because it's harder so doesn't bend on impact. It's also less likely to scratch. I've seen countless scratched Macbooks over the years.

Plus unibody designs mean the whole laptop body needs to be replaced if there is damage instead of just replacing a single panel. High end Dell laptops are almost modular in comparison.
