jarsj··on Advice for Marissa Mayer from an ex-Yahoo
12. Hire sriramk as VP Engineering.
jarsj··on Google Drive
It's strange that the top comments here are blasting Google for things we couldn't care less about.

I think it's awesome. Especially the search integration and ability to build apps. Dropbox is dead.

jarsj··on Build iOS Apps In Ruby - Available Summer '12
I love obj-c, especially after the blocks. Sorry, you guys are too late.
jarsj··on Never ever do business with Samsung India Software Operations
Never work with anyone in India, especially the big names, without taking atleast a 50% advance, and holding the source (or some other leverage) before the other 50%. You will be surprised how fast things move when they want them to.
jarsj··on Another Xcode Version, Another Example of Crappy Apple QA
I think I came out wrong. I know its freely available. However, most people who use it to get anything useful done (iOS apps, mac-appstore apps) end up paying Apple, subscription fees.
jarsj··on Another Xcode Version, Another Example of Crappy Apple QA
Apple already charges for XCode. 99$/year and 30% of everything built using it is not cheap.
jarsj··on We are sorry
"If you accept and later decide you would like to revoke this access, please send an email to service@path.com and we will promptly see to it that your contact information is removed."

There it is. If you have a button that stores all contact information, Why can't you add a button that says remove all my contact information ? Ofcourse, then more people will click it. Just a stunt, nothing more.

jarsj··on Amazon launches as Junglee in India
I know it's powered by "Amazon Inc.", but this is not "Amazon, the seamless online shopping portal, entering India". Get it ?

jarsj··on Amazon launches as Junglee in India
This is hardly amazon. It's merely a product search engine that takes you directly to the product site and shop there. Yikes.
jarsj··on Crowd-sourced political lobby
I think the idea should be to put complete force behind passing some legislation which in a meaningful way restricts the influence corporations can have over congress.
jarsj··on How I Converted My Subscription Site from Paypal to Stripe in 2 Days
Stripe is US only.
jarsj··on Indian ISP Blocks A Bunch Of Websites
Insane. Indian lower courts are crazy. If someone appeals to higher courts it will get overturned in no time. Thankfully, things are working from other ISPs, so it's a reliance only thing.
jarsj··on Convert Any Webpage to an Image
eeeeks. I am not even sure I wanna comment on what I saw.
jarsj··on 2D Game Art for Programmers
I like it. Are there books that go step-by-step like this and cover a much wider range of things.
jarsj··on Learning from my web app 23 visits at a time
My bad. Your product does everything, but in a totally non-obvious way. Please do yourself a favour and read the book "Don't make me think"
jarsj··on Learning from my web app 23 visits at a time
I think this is great, but I ain't paying for anything I can't see. The flow should be Enter Location -> Image Preview -> Share-on-FB or Pay-to-Print. That's your MVP. Hard-Code it for a few locations or show some random image previews.
jarsj··on Why Facebook's 'Frictionless Sharing' violates HTTP
Like it's so hard to differentiate between a GET that user was not responsible for and which didn't complete, to the one the user was responsible for. As long as facebook makes it easy for an user to turn off an app that's spammy or the one that knowingly posts "I read an objectionable content", I think we are fine. Agreed, apps have more power but as long as users and Facebook have more, they will behave and internet will become a better place.
jarsj··on Technical co-founder needed for a 'neglected' app having 100,000 users
I had guess 100-200 daily active.
jarsj··on Notable iOS Developer Suggests API Boycott to Fight Patent Trolls
No, that organization has other interests to protect while this one would be democratic and transparent. I am serious guys.
jarsj··on Notable iOS Developer Suggests API Boycott to Fight Patent Trolls
Time to create an "iOS Developer Foundation to Fight Patent Trolls". I will be happy to donate 1% of my revenues to such an organization who promises to fight these buggers on behalf of us.
jarsj··on Ask HN: What will it take to create something like CrunchBase?
I understand that and I am not looking to create a better crunchbase. I want to understand how hard it is to create something like that, technically. If you spend time on it, it looks fairly sophisticated. You say it's trivial, but how trivial ? For instance, Can someone who knows ruby-on-rails or one of the modern agile web frameworks create an exact replica in a day, a week ? Can someone hack it using wordpress/joomla ?
jarsj··on Ask HN: Startup uses pirated/warez software, what should I do?
As others have said, you should try to fix it.

1. Convert things you can to open source alternatives. Google Docs/Open-office should replace ms-office. The QA can happen on Linux, if it's a web-based company.

2. Make sure your founders understand this as part of the cost of running the company and know that they can't do it for ever. It must be in their roadmap to move to legal copies when they have funds.

If you find the attitude too casual and you are looked down upon on raising the issue, quit. Period.

jarsj··on MathJax, beautiful math in all browsers
Sorry, it works. But the Ajax is slow. When I posted my first comment, the Javascript just didn't complete in time to show me the rendered equations and hence I reported things not working. The quality is great and good job for that, however I believe you are doing a bunch of processing on the server and that's going to be an important hurdle in widespread adoption.
jarsj··on MathJax, beautiful math in all browsers
Doesn't work as i expect in my browser.
jarsj··on Ask PG: Have you ever been to India or planning to?
You are talking about the India before 1991. "Licence Raj, also the Permit Raj, refers to the elaborate licenses, regulations and accompanying red tape that were required to set up and run businesses in India between 1947 and 1990.[1]"

There has never been a more supporting ecosystem for entrepreneurs in India. Shaadi.com/Rediff.com/Naukri.com/JustDial.com and many others are just few of the success stories.

jarsj··on JetMan
No take off, No demonstration of control and speed variations, No landing. Am sure secret prototypes at NASA or elsewhere are much better.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Do you ever feel guilty about what you have?
Nothing aggressive. I make sure people I employ gets paid well. I give tips generously. I have taught young kids in slums and I donate my clothes and other used stuff quite generously. I don't give to beggars because it's like supporting an industry that should not exist at the first place. It really hurts to say not to these folks.

You really need to be on the ground to help these folks. There are NGOs and social organizations doing this on the ground. I think online tech space can either assist this (for example a web app for an NGO that collects clothes) or a startup that tracks/rates various NGOs and monitors their funding/spending etc.

I am no expert. My few quick thoughts.

jarsj··on Ask HN: Do you ever feel guilty about what you have?
I feel it all the time. Especially in India where high standard living goes hand to hand with super-poor living.
jarsj··on Where are the Indian hackers at?
Can you point me to atleast one "active" group out there ? http://groups.google.com/group/east-bay-hacker-news, check out the post frequency, member size etc.

The use cases you mention are very few and can be easily addressed with HN tags. Example : "HN India : Fundraising event in Bangalore ?" or "HN India : Let's have a meetup in Mumbai." If it's interesting to indian HNers they will upvote it and follow it up.

Realize, that starting a group is easy, building a tribe around it is not. There are many things that made people come to HN, Paul Graham, Ycombinator, Startup School, a custom and simple software. Good content came later.
