jarsj··on Show HN: Malai – securely share local TCP services (database/SSH) with others
Awesome would love to use it.
jarsj··on GitHub Copilot investigation
But is it illegal for AI to provide the said assistance ? That, I believe, is the bigger question.
jarsj··on Launch HN: Mighty Health (YC S19) – Health coaching for people over 50
Is this worldwide ? Can I gift it to my dad in india ?
jarsj··on Rust async/await hits stable tomorrow
He said he didn’t understand the obsession, that’s not the same as not understanding it.
jarsj··on The SpaceX Starship is a big deal
It's not designed for commercial air travel. Satellites, astronauts have a slightly higher risk threshold that exponentially reduces the provability factor.
jarsj··on H-1B abuse: Bay Area tech workers from India paid a pittance, feds say
Not really in these cases. The talent is low-skill and they will have trouble finding high-skill jobs if they don't partake in the scam.
jarsj··on H-1B abuse: Bay Area tech workers from India paid a pittance, feds say
Short term may be. Long term companies like Google will be forced to expand where high skill talent is, so you loose jobs and slightly long term, you run the risk of loosing the entire silicon valley. Have you seen Detroit ? Imagine San Francisco like that.
jarsj··on H-1B abuse: Bay Area tech workers from India paid a pittance, feds say
That would be great, but companies would figure out ways around it. Company would pay 2X and ask employee to pay X to some random/affiliated company for training etc. They would even do this handoff in India to stay out of radar and tell you what many indians would take the deal.

The solution is "EXTREMELY" strict penalties including prison time for board of companies who indulge in it willingly.

jarsj··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2017)

jarsj··on Facebook is misleading Indians with its full-page ads about Free Basics
Yes. A lot of things are fked up in India. That's not an argument to mess up one more. Internet is one thing we got right. Freedom of Speech, Online Censorship, Running an Internet Startup are no different than in US, even better. For starters, Our government doesn't spy. We don't get trolled for stupid patents. ETC

There are thousands of excellent Indian professionals, leading some of the top companies in the world. It's your loss if you make your opinion from the bad ones. We just have too many people.

Also, 2015 was the biggest ever in terms of VC deals 10+ Billion USD, Foreign Investments, etc.

jarsj··on Facebook is misleading Indians with its full-page ads about Free Basics
I guess you have no idea what this is really about.

All we are asking our Govt. is to adopt same Net Neutrality standards that exist in US and other EU countries.

Companies like Uber/Amazon are already pumping huge money in India because they need us, not vice-versa. Just because we are open, unlike China, doesn't mean you can play unfair.

jarsj··on Our Team Won Startup Weekend and All We Got Was a Shitty New Boss
First understand this. "I code on your business idea and it becomes our idea." Idea's worth nothing.
jarsj··on Air Traffic Control Simulator
Has anyone able to crash 2 planes yet ? I tried landing one on a runway while other was taxied, nothing happened.
jarsj··on The Bézier Game
One word. Thank you.
jarsj··on Apple begins rejecting apps that offer rewards for video views, social sharing
IAP Ranters. Here is a story. A real one.

I take a coffee break and fire the addictive social game "Boom Beach".

My troops are ready and I am ready to attack the neighbors.

I buy a 5 USD tea + 3 USD water bottle (both I can get free at my office).

The attack doesn't go well. One little error. My break is about to end, but I want to try one more time. Just that, it will take 2 hours to train my troops.

Or Wait, 1.99 USD to speed that up. Hours of planning, that went for the attack and just 2 USD to find out if I was right or wrong. Is it worth it ? I look at my coffee and water, the time, the ending break, the distractions till this is resolved. It's worth it. And while I am putting in 2USD, might as well take the 10USD deal for next 20 battles. Better spent than "expensive-than-movie" popcorn. Ban that first.

jarsj··on We made something. We use it. We love it. Apple rejected it
Just wondering if you appealed and what was the response ?
jarsj··on Ask HN: What's the best way to get 5% on a million dollars?
Move to India. 9% annual return, 0 risk.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Google employees, why is G+ more important than your users?
There used to be someone at google who would approve every UX/UI at pixel level. She now works for Yahoo!.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Does being good at TopCoder etc help you with day to day work?
Probably not, but it's a strong indicator that if you were good at what you were supposed to do, you will continue to be good at whatever new is thrown at you.
jarsj··on Snowden granted 1-year asylum in Russia, leaves airport
Am I the only one who find this flawed ? Why won't you take into account the deaths that would have occured both in short/long run if that money/time wasn't spent ? Note that this has kind of a butterfly effect. There is a possible argument for doing it more efficiently or differently, but this extreme comparison makes no sense.
jarsj··on [dead]
very unlikely, most of these markets would have a standard procedure to wipe/reset everything.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Should equity be traded for advice and connections?
No. They want to be essentially your advisors and that probably deserves 0.5-1% equity in total. Anything more looks like a scam. You can agree to pay a finder's fee of couple of percentage if they contribute significantly in a fund raising round which is spending 50-100% of time spent by founders to raise money.
jarsj··on Offer HN : MVP for 200$
Either put your portfolio or have a condition that I can chose not to play if I don't like the work. Ofcourse, in that case I don't get the code.
jarsj··on Ask HN: Invest in Adam
Would be worth a conversation if this guy was atleast a programmer or a designer or a business/finance guy with relevant experience.
jarsj··on AppGratis Is Nothing More Than A Black Hat Marketing Company
As a small app developer, I am gonna up-vote this thousand times (I wish). We small developers need to unite and throw companies like these (paid promotions, paid reviews) out.
jarsj··on Petition: Stop bundling crapware with Java

jarsj··on Are You a Grumpy Developer?
Autocomplete for "why steve jobs was a" gives "Jerk" as first result. Doesn't matter what the world perceives us. There is too little time to keep up with all the shit in the world. If one line email replies, coming to the point in a hour long meeting and ending it in 5 minutes is perceived by the rest as grumpiness, then let's be grumpy. And who says great developers don't have fun. They just don't mix it with work, so you don't get to know.
jarsj··on Gallery of free HTML snippets for Twitter Bootstrap
This is good. Can you add some voting thingie. There is a lot of trivial stuff, easily available on the bootstrap documentation itself.
jarsj··on Java's Cover (April 2001)
I built a new programming language in scheme, wrote a compiler in C, map reduces in C++. I hate struts, hibernate and all shitty enterprise frameworks but I can proudly say that I love Java. I have used it for Speech synthesis, Image processing, Machine Learning, NLP and of-course Search. It's awesome.
jarsj··on Company withdrawing from Facebook as analytics show 80% of ad clicks from bots
Interesting. I just tried browsing facebook with Javascript off and pretty much nothing works. I can't comment, can't share, can't like. But guess what, ads show up and they can be clicked.
