jandeboevrie··on Running GUI apps within Docker containers
This is fun, I did it as well to get an old flash player from 2011 working in modern Linux: https://raymii.org/s/tutorials/Running_gnash_on_Ubuntu_20.04...
jandeboevrie··on Embed the source code directly in your Qt app, for GPL compliance
I don't mind the source "leaking", as stated in the article. I'm even planning to just send it onto paying customers, but that's impossible on mobile platforms without making it public. I want a hurdle, just enough to make people consider buying instead of downloading. Take Fritzing for example, for os X and windows you must pay for an installer or compile yourself, on most Linux distros it's an apt insta away.

I've had multiple forms of donation buttons on my various sites and software over the years and they have never worked as good as either ads or paid software. As in, 99% difference.

jandeboevrie··on Embed the source code directly in your Qt app, for GPL compliance
Agreed, but a few text files shouldn't be a big size increase. Its the only was to provide the source to users on mobile platforms without making the source directly public. Or do you have another suggestion?
jandeboevrie··on Use of Google Analytics declared illegal by French data protection authority
happy goatcounter user here to, for the same reasons as you say, way less complex than GA but it has more metrics I care about.
jandeboevrie··on QML Drag and Drop including reordering the C++ model
Why dont you use an adblocker if you dislike ads?
jandeboevrie··on Phone Utility on VAX/VMS
Had an actual chat once via OpenVMS Phone: https://raymii.org/s/blog/My_first_OpenVMS.html#toc_4 - really fun!
jandeboevrie··on Canonic Browser: open-source QML Browser
This is not a web browser, just a QML browser.
jandeboevrie··on Gitlab from YC to IPO
I worked with Sytse (as Sid used to be called) back in 2011/2012 in The Hague when he consulted at Digidentity, with Marin. Great guy back then, used to run around in a lab coat, the GitLAB guy. Wonderful to see what Gitlab has become, well done!
jandeboevrie··on Gopher Is Still Worth Checking Out
Can't wait for the Python3 version of PyGopherD so I don't have to do this anymore: https://raymii.org/s/tutorials/Installing_PyGopherd_on_Ubunt...
jandeboevrie··on Microsoft Azure silently install management agents with vulns on your Linux VMs
This backdoor is present on all vm providers. Qemu has one as well. I did wrote about it three years ago: https://raymii.org/s/blog/Linux_on_Microsoft_Azure_Disable_t...
jandeboevrie··on Rectangle{} debugging in QML – like printf(), but for QT
This is so cool! I think this is going to be very useful for me. How did you find the magic env variable?
jandeboevrie··on Rectangle{} debugging in QML – like printf(), but for QT
This was during development, also stated in the article.

The forms designer does not work if you use qrc:/ includes or inline javascript, plus it generates ugly code (and uses hard x / y positions instead of anchors).

jandeboevrie··on Run GUI applications and desktops in Docker
A simpler approach for Just one application can be found here: https://raymii.org/s/tutorials/Running_gnash_on_Ubuntu_20.04...

In that case it's legacy applications not available on newer distros.

jandeboevrie··on Firefox 91 – Revert back to old tab style
Here's my take on it: https://raymii.org/s/blog/Firefox-89-proton-ui-tab-styling.h...
jandeboevrie··on How Dwarf Fortress is built
Df is just like OpenTTD. Both are like Chess, easy to start, fun to play casually but it takes years to master. Great games, complex if you want to and a time sink if you don't keep an eye on it. Have had many hundreds of fun hours in both games
jandeboevrie··on Using IceWM and a Raspberry Pi as my main PC, sharing my theme, config and some
Jeffs case review of the argon one m2 case was the reason I bought it. The pi boots directly from an SSD, much faster and no more broken SD cards.
jandeboevrie··on MicroMac Technology (2000)
Metatag generator: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claris_Home_Page - I expected Frontpage, but it's something different, never heard of it.
jandeboevrie··on VNC client running on a coffee machine
My site does yes, from the Espresso Web Server (https://raymii.org/invalid) - but that is just an nginx trick. That was in place way before I started at this company.

Check the other HTTP headers for more fun.

The coffee machines themselves have a HTTP api but not the HTTP coffeepot protocol. Just something custom.

jandeboevrie··on VNC client running on a coffee machine
The QT version compiles as a desktop app as well. It uses an HTTP api to the coffee machine. Normally only localhost, but for development I can tunnel that port over ssh, so from my desktop I can use "actual" hardware. Same with Flash/Gnash, ssh tunnel and a local instance (recently made a snap for that: https://raymii.org/s/blog/Ive_packaged_up_Gnash_as_a_Snap_fo...).

But thanks for the tip, I'm going to try that and see how it works. Maybe even get the old machine running the new UI via vnc.

jandeboevrie··on VNC client running on a coffee machine
Made in Taylor, MI! Research and Development is located in the Netherlands, but the machines for the US market are made locally there.
jandeboevrie··on VNC client running on a coffee machine
This is amazing, thanks for sharing! I really hate the bloated electron piece of shit. Would love a cli client or pidgin integration.
jandeboevrie··on PiDP-8/I running TSS/8 open for retro challenges
If you want to run this yourself, you can do so with simh. Wrote about it in 2015: https://raymii.org/s/articles/Running_TSS_8_on_the_DEC_PiDP-... - a lot of fun , playing around with the PiDP/8
jandeboevrie··on The VT-69 portable data terminal
Can we buy this already?
jandeboevrie··on SerenityOS: Writing a Full Chain Exploit
SerenityOS is an amazing project. Great videos, fun and interesting to watch and the os itself is surprisingly usable. Great example of modern C++.
jandeboevrie··on AXPbox Alpha Emulator
It's a fork of es40. New build system, more stable networking, bug fixes, but don't expect miracles just yet. 10 year old c++ codebase is not something you magically speed up overnight
jandeboevrie··on AXPbox Alpha Emulator
Version 1.0.0 was released just yesterday: https://github.com/lenticularis39/axpbox/releases/tag/v1.0.0

Code Contributions, bug reports and testing are very welcome

jandeboevrie··on Lets talk about changelogs (how I loathe 'bugfixes and performance improvements)
Hehe I'd be happy to read such a changelog
jandeboevrie··on Bash HTTP Monitoring Dashboard
That looks cool! More possibilities and it keeps history, nice.

Do the checks run in parallel?

jandeboevrie··on Bash HTTP Monitoring Dashboard
Agree with superkuh in this point. If you only have a hammer every problem looks like a nail. But I've updated the Readme with coreutils as a dependency.
jandeboevrie··on Bash HTTP Monitoring Dashboard
No not in this version. When would that occur?
