jamroom··on What I learned trying to classify abortion access across the rich world
I also think it is reasonable - however - what the SC has done is throw out precedent here - there is a tremendous amount of "law" that has not been codified by the constitution or by congress, but instead relies on decades and decades of cases that have come before the supreme court. So in this instance they have specifically decided that these previous decisions were wrong and reversed it. I believe this was done selectively and purposefully.

Do you have a source?

jamroom··on A few things to know before stealing my 914
Yes the gears! The amount of "play" in the gearbox was insane. Couple that with the like 3 foot long stick handle and IN GEAR I could wiggle the stick in a like foot wide circle.

Once you had driven it for a while you got to know the "feel" of it and had no problems, but like in the article someone new to driving it would have had a really hard time lol.

As someone who drove a 1972 Westfalia for ~10 years this had me laughing to myself multiple times in agreement.

It's not an exaggeration - back when Netflix sent out DVD's by mail it WAS like having a Blockbuster in your living room (since Blockbuster didn't do streaming)

Have had one for 10 years and would never buy a different drip coffee maker. Makes the perfect cup of coffee. Definitely a "buy it for life" purchase.

Mail in voting is still secret ballot - you have an internal "secrecy sleeve" that is in turn mailed in an outer envelope. The outer envelope signature is compared to the signature on file, and then the internal envelope is removed but is not opened in the same location.

jamroom··on FDA grants full approval to Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid shot
This is for private business mandates - from the article:

The move may encourage some unvaccinated Americans to get the shots as well as give more private businesses across the nation greater confidence to implement vaccine mandates.

As someone who has been purchasing individual insurance since 2003, prices were spiraling out of control long before the ACA. My premium went up every single year outside the first couple years the ACA was in effect where they went down a little bit.

Yeah I know about that incident - but also believe companies have the ability to learn from past mistakes and do better.

Wow - really? I use both Linode and DO extensively and Linode is better on almost all fronts in my experience. Faster servers, better network, Linode's Object Storage is way better than DO's "spaces" and Linode's support is hands down the better of the two. If you're going to spend $5 on a server why would you go with DO unless you're already there?

jamroom··on The Airline Industry's Meltdown
I'm not much of an economic expert nor do I really know how the airline industry operates, so I could be completely wrong.

My concern with an "airlines bailout" is that it is just going to prop up the industry for another quarter or two, when I don't believe that demand for air travel will return to pre-pandemic levels any time soon. So what if instead, we just allow the airlines to lay off tens of thousands of people and the money we would have spent bailing out the business side + workers just goes to the workers instead? It could even include job training or something else to help those that want to change industries. Then as demand returns many of these laid off workers can be rehired.

I don't know if this would work, but I feel like if we talking about propping up all the airlines then it's something we will be doing for several years.

What’s you’re opinion on why the Republican Party stuck with Trump despite the numerous sexual allegations against him?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_sexual_miscondu...

I’m not trying to compare Biden and Trump in this, but you seem to imply in your post that dems should have dumped Biden because of that accusation. Why should Biden be treated differently than Trump?

jamroom··on Apple (Pro) Mouse (2014)
I've been using the Magic Mouse since it was released and I have never experienced this - you can rest your fingers on the right side of the mouse and it doesn't "right click" without you clicking. Outside of having to turn it off to charge it, the Magic Mouse is my favorite mouse I've ever used.
jamroom··on Nvidia Unveils GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs
Oh man - the same here with me - when I first got Morrowind there was an option you could enable in ATI (now AMD) cards at the time that made water look "real". I was able to enable that and was blown away - I was like "well that's it - doesn't get any more real than this". Having loaded Morrowind recently I could not believe had bad it looked lol. Makes me wonder - what are we "not" seeing right now that will make us think this way 10-20 years from now?
