Never felt comfortable calling myself a web developer and entrepreneur. So Code Monkey will do thanks!

jamongkad··on Getting too little sleep can have serious health consequences (2013)
Your experience really resonates with me. I too suffer from occasional panic attacks. What techniques do you use to suppress them?
jamongkad··on Show HN: EdgeKick, real-time analytics for public Facebook pages
I'm curious as well...and while I'm at it do you store the analytics in a db?
jamongkad··on MBA or Learn to Code?
I agree. I'm a huge proponent on giving it a try and seeing where you are from just doing it.
jamongkad··on Upgrading Airbnb from Rails 2.3 to Rails 3.0
Exactly as painful as it might seem. Automated tests can only get you so far. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and dig into the code base.
jamongkad··on Your number one priority
Agreed that is why I always walk to work and rarely bring my car.
jamongkad··on New - Amazon S3 Server Side Encryption for Data at Rest
No you're definitely not the only one. My company uses EC2 for our production environment and I loathe the management interface with a passion. Amazon should definitely hire a UI expert to give that damn thing a face lift.
jamongkad··on Show HN: Readability-like API Using Machine Learning
I'm an interested party as well. As a student of machine learning I would love to learn the techniques you've applied. I'm doing a data mining startup and this would be very helpful.
jamongkad··on How to draw viewers into Web Video - lessons from porn
I think the rabbit hole goes a little deeper than that don't you think?
jamongkad··on How to draw viewers into Web Video - lessons from porn
> content tube sites that have some really quite excellent taxonomy, categorization and deeper search functions - surfacing the content that each viewer wants is a unique experience for each person.

Fascinating what sort of sites have this feature?

jamongkad··on ToroPHP - A Tiny PHP Framework
Wow looks like web.py for PHP. I think I've seen a similar project whilst lurking around Github the other day.
jamongkad··on DumbledORM a novelty PHP ORM in < 200 lines
Nice but is there any mention in the article about support for just writing plain old SQL? I love the ideas of ORMs (my app now currently uses SQLAlchemy) but I find myself dropping back to SQL when things get a little complex. I think new age ORMs should leave support for dropping back to SQL. Cool project nonetheless.
jamongkad··on Why PHP Is Fun and Easy But Python Is Marriage Material
I rock it old school and still prefer web.py over anything.
jamongkad··on Flask 0.5 Released - Python WSGI microframework
How does Flask compare with web.py?
jamongkad··on CakePHP on GitHub
Word...though I think you'd be pleased to know that Kohana is one of the better engineered PHP code bases out there.
jamongkad··on CakePHP on GitHub
Personally I would go for either CodeIgniter or it's more well built cousin Kohana.
jamongkad··on Ask HN: How can a Web Developer get into Bioinformatics?
You would be referring to the book written by Toby Sagaran would you? If it is I second your notion, an excellent book btw. Really got me into algorithms and the like.
jamongkad··on Parsing HTML in Python with BeautifulSoup
Upvote I used to dig BeautifulSoup. It's latest release is slower than it's predecessors. That's why I use PyQuery nowadays, it's based on lxml and uses a jQuery like API to access the DOM.
jamongkad··on The Zimbu programming language, by vim author Bram Moolenaar
Gambit Scheme does it better I think.
jamongkad··on Python Library for Google Translate
I find this incredibly useful for internationalizing apps! I can tell I'm going to have alot of fun using this lib.
jamongkad··on Joe Stump: Why I switched from PHP to Python
Agreed not everything in Python is well thought out. Lambdas and .join comes to mind.
jamongkad··on Joe Stump: Why I switched from PHP to Python
Pylons.
jamongkad··on Joe Stump: Why I switched from PHP to Python
As long as Python continues to not utilize multi-line lambdas. Then Perl and Ruby will continue to be a usable Lisp. But I don't think that's a bad thing. Python is Python and that's that.
jamongkad··on Joe Stump: Why I switched from PHP to Python
Speaking as someone who is tangled in a love triangle between Python and PHP. I do agree that PHP does have it's strengths. For the programmer just making a living, it's quite ok to etch out just using it.

In terms of web applications, what you can accomplish in PHP you can pretty much do in Python. But the difference comes in when you do "care" about the tools you're using.

When you want that extra power. When you want something sane to work with.

Python and friends give provide that for you.

I do love PHP, it's deployment is a snap and the frameworks we have now are kick ass. But Python is such a joy to work with it. And the longer I work with it, it gets harder to come back to PHP.

jamongkad··on Tiny Code
Why isn't SQLite a part of this list?
jamongkad··on Python Debugging Techniques
Upvote for iPython, it quickened my learning of the language 10 fold. That and slime.vim is a match made in heaven!
jamongkad··on Being poor at modeling is essential to OOP (comment on LtU)
You basically put into words what I wanted to explain in the first place.
jamongkad··on Being poor at modeling is essential to OOP (comment on LtU)
Thank you! but it's still not very clear to me. I'm having trouble trying to visualize how this should play out. :\
jamongkad··on Being poor at modeling is essential to OOP (comment on LtU)
Could you please provide an example for this?
jamongkad··on Ask HN: What's a good programming language to start with?
If I were to start over again I would have started with Scheme as a good first programming language.
jamongkad··on Relentlessly Profitable- how great ideas kill companies
Just out of curiosity why do you say that turning into a custom software development shop is a waste of talent?

Granted yes I'm very much with the rest of the HN community that we should concentrate on making products and all.
