Maybe he's paying one forward for favorable outcome regarding antitrust investigations. Cases like this don't appear overnight, and they take just as long to adjudicate.
It reminds me of Blockbuster. They had the market, the product, and the startup capital but didn't take the risk to see if it would be worth it to pivot.
I'd imagine there's an entire secondary market of arbitrators. The real juice would be in some sort of ranking system for them, like a reverse-glassdoor.
On average, I work 8-10 hours before eating because I choose to eat in a way that is time consuming. Every meal is cooked using basic cuts of meat and vegetables as they were grown. This takes time to prepare but not much skill. I use my attentive hours to work and choose to cook during my less attentive hours.
If the CEO is appearing erratic under pressure, we might investigate where it is being applied and who is applying that pressure.
> Investors are nervous because CEO appears erratic under pressure.
> Investors apply pressure in response to erratic behavior.
If an investor truly believes that he’s acting erratic under pressure, then the best response is not changing the type of pressure to societal and financial pressure.
Why would all of today’s young engineers, who collectively consume marijuana and concentrates by the ton, suddenly take issue with one of their foremost peers partaking in the same activity? It makes more sense that the older investors who are making a bet on this generation’s promising stallion, in their eyes, are seeing what is to them, aberrant behavior. Given how often and well honored the theme of “older generation not progressing with the times” is, seems much more likely especially when thought in the same context as Occam’s Assertion.
For me, eating reduces productivity, as well as drinking alcohol, so I abstain from both while working. The distinction being that while working I modify my behavior to be productive, however, during leisure time I do not have the goal of being productive, I have the goal of relaxation and my preferences now include food and sometimes drink.
It matters to me. The reasons the parent outlined are roughly the factors used for my personal trust rating when considering if I mind veering off topic momentarily while reading.
I've always admired these people, and secretly suspected that people who speak more than a few languages have a superlinguist genetic trait that makes them more likely to pick up a new dialect or language. The common denominator seems to be the rapid introduction of new languages at a very young age.
We have so much information to take in, and it is so often something we already know, or a well worn trope being repeated that skimming becomes a survival trait. We cannot ingest this amount of input without disqualifying a few bits in the data stream.
It's wrong to be downvoting this without some type of substantive reason. We all know that the guy above was dragging out the bemoaned javascript meme, and the second one was responding 100% as he should. Let's not use the downvote button as an "I'm disgruntled" button, that has never been how this community works.
They want me as a reader but they also want money. Since I don’t browse news articles with a fist full of e-credits this is the best choice of their options. NYT absolutely will not let you read without paying, I suppose you’d prefer that.
Religion is a representation of man’s yearning to answer “why?”. Some questions don’t have answers and that’s okay. Having faith in the process of learning we realize that answers can be derived through logic and fact. God is a concept variable to represent the answer to that question for those who haven’t realized the purpose of such a concept. As such, time passes, more mysteries are unfolded, and there is less need for mystical thought.
This is a gift, just to have. Thanks for posting it. I have very fond memories of playing Wolf3d years ago on DOS. It will be fun to read through the source of the classics.
